Cloudy, dirty gold. Decent starting head which lasts. Spotty lace.

Subtle grapefruit rind nose.

Smooth body with proper carbonation, but of the small bubbles variety. Solid pale malt base but the hop is the story here with a soft start and a moderate finish. The aftertaste is a nice blend of the two.

22oz bottle. Pours a burnt dark orange with an inch of fluffy head. Lots of lacing. Aromas of pear, grapefruit, pineapple and some grassy hops. The taste is grassy hops with tangerine, pineapple, grains, orange peel and a hint of lemon and lime zest. Lots of carbonation and slightly dry mouthfeel. Good Imperial IPA I'd buy once in a while.

Pours a hazy, golden orange color with a very nice off white head. Smells like citrus mixed with some grassy/earthy aroma. Very nice. Not much malt detected in the nose. Taste is similar to the nose. Citrus and earthy. Flavor is a touch subdued compared to the aroma. I don't get the candied fruit taste that I get with other hoppy beers from Foley Brothers. Moderate bitterness with a nice, medium mouthfeel.

Fair Maiden was the first beer I ever had from Foley Brothers and definitely made me want to try more. While it was the beer that put them on the map, I think they've surpassed it with their more recent beers. A solid brew for sure, but I think it's a level below Prospect and Pieces of Eight.

Pours a very cloudy light golden color with a thin white head that left little lacing. Smells of tropical fruits, piney hops, and citrus. Tastes of orange, nectarine, apricot, lemon, with a nice bitter hop finish. Light bodied, well carbonated. Overall very good but their other IPA that I had, Prospect, was clearly better IMO.

quite a different ipa than the pieces of eight, equally enormous, but more of the new wave, cloudier and more citrusy hops, far less of a grain profile in both flavor and feel, but just as delicious. these guys are really on it right now. paler in color, brighter in the nose, citra driven it seems, but there again appears to be a lot of different hops in the equation here. bitterness is quite a bit lower too, these hops appear far more juicy, even fresher, unencumbered, and really pretty dramatic. there is a touch of sweetness here, oily and honey tasting, but gone by the finish, and as light as this is in color and grain flavor, its not too light in body, soft and creamy feeling with a citrus prickle in there and moderate carbonation. this one doesnt warm up quite as well, falls off a bit, but just a remarkable beverage, not too far from east or west coast in style, seemingly the best of both worlds here. just a tiny bit of booze later on fills in where heavier hop bitterness might normally be. overall an awesome beer, one i hope to drink plenty more of at some point. really stoked on foley brothers right now! this has to be the same beer as the imperial one by the same name yeah?

The Foley Brothers Brewery and tasting room in Brandon, VT is one of the best 'off the beatin' path' visits you will make while in VT. LIke a fairy tale!! Fair Maiden is always in ample supply and you can thank the beer gods for that.

First a thanks to the peeps in Burlington for some great recommendations of up and coming breweries to augment consumption of the usual Vermont suspects. Tangerine color, unfiltered, cloudy. Nice tropical nose, albeit lighter than some other New England heavy weight competitors. Taste provides a very nice balance of grapefruit/mango with a nice bitter hops kick at the end. I think I liked the Foley's Skeleton Crew draft a little more (embarrassed to say I failed to rate), but the bottom line is this is a brewery that merits watching (and drinking). I think Maiden is a half a step behind some of the premier New England style IPAs, but a short half-step. I will definitely be looking to score more of there product when I am in New England.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into tulip glasses:

Appearance: none of the typical hop haze that comes from VT IPAs, but this beer is still lovely. Orange-copper in body, with a thick, sudsy head. Slow, small bubbles rising. Slight chilled haze to start, and then clears up to translucent.

Aroma: lots of pineapple and grapefruit, with a lot of the sort of bitter flavor that comes with the grapefruit rind. I didn't get any onion or garlic like others have stated. Maybe a touch of sweetness, but the overwhelming scent is the grapefruit.

Taste: following the scent, it starts with a little bit of malt sweetness, but is overwhelmed by the grapefruit and pineapple flavors.

Feel: full-bodied and creamy as can be, it's the perfect feel for a double IPA.

Overall: another excellent Vermont DIPA, and one that isn't nearly as much of a task to track down as the heavy hitters.

This beer pours a nice golden amber with a thin white head and almost no lacing. The smell is pretty nice with a slight floral smell and plenty of malt background. The taste is good. Reminds me a little of Pliny but not at the same level. A little more malt and less hop profile. The mouthfeel is pretty good as well. Overall this is a good beer but has a bit too much malt and is more boozy than I had anticipated.
