Notes / Commercial Description:
When Backpocket acquired Galaxy hops with a power unmatched in the known world, they realized their only choice was to name the resulting beer after a clothing brand that's named after a fictional weapon. Raygun IPA says it all: dangerous space exploration, nerves of steel, and extreme Midwestern good lookingness.

12 oz bottle. Pours very hazy orange gold with a medium frothy white head that retains fairly well and laces the glass.

The aroma is subdued - some plasticky stinky hops with a little fruit. More fruit comes out as it warms.

The flavor is some sweet malt with lots of resiny, fruity, slightly minty hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, an OK IPA with some odd notes in the hop profile I can't quite identify.

I generally don’t like tropical fruit IPA’s but I really like this one

A: Pours a hazy medium golden apricot in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate bright yellow + medium golden yellow colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall sudsy foamy white head that reduces to a medium to large sized patch of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bready + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness underneath slightly stronger than moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit + tropical/passionfruit hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of bready + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit + tropical/passionfruit hops which impart a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: Enjoyable and easy to drink with well hidden alcohol - I appreciate coming across "bitter" IPA as far too many have lost that element in recent years.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color. It poured with a short white head that died down a bit but left patches of bubbles covering most of the surface.
S: Light aromas of peaches are present in the nose along with notes of pale malts.
T: The taste follows the smell, starting off with some flavors of peaches and finishing with notes of pale malts and bits of spices.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this beer has an interesting transition from fruits to spices.

Mildly hazy and golden body; dense, rocky, creamy head. Bready and floral aroma. Fairly bitter tasting from the get go, then exhibiting esters and a light malt grain presence. Medium-heavy body; tickles the palate with carbonation and bitterness; mostly dry overall.

A neighbor gave me this beer. There is no dating information on the bottle, but the beer tastes good all around. It has some nice depth and complexity yet nothing too extreme. The bitterness is the strong point. I would certainly go for this beer again. Rock solid.

Pours beautiful bright yellow gold with a yeast haze and full foam head that laces nicely as it recedes. Aroma has tropical fruits of mango and passion fruit and floral. Firm IPA bitterniess balanced with light caramel malty backbone. Taste of passion fruit, pineapple, peach and citrus. Great summer time IPA at 7.8% ABV (or 6.8% on new bottle?) and 67 IBU’s. Pared well with balsamic chicken, would go well with teriyaki pineapple burger!

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass; no production information.
A: Pours a hazy golden color with a brown cast, with a one inch, white head, low retention but good lacing.
S: Aromas of navel orange, mango, and biscuit.
T: Hoppy and bready, with orange and cookie flavors. Moderate bitterness which leads to a solid finish.
M: Light bodied with moderate effervescence.
O: A solid, but not exceptional IPA. Enjoyable.

No visible bottle date. Pours a brilliant golden color with a firm rocky head of 2 fingers. Lots of lace left behind on my SN Swirly Glass.

Lots of delicious fruity Galaxy stuff going on in the aroma. Peach, mango, orange zest, grapefruit. Slight passion fruit.

Tons of hop on the palate. Like, all hop. I agree with the reviews that say it needs a heavier malt bill. It's not a factor of preference, the profile is unbalanced and very green. However - - that does NOT mean it's not delicious. The galaxy hop brings forth mango and papaya, some bitter orange and grapefruit, along with leafy, green notes. Hop dust. Lots of resin on the finish.

Feel is oily and nicely carbonated, with lots of crispness throughout. Resiny finish.

Overall, a pretty good beer. Drink this as fresh as possible though, I can't imagine the weight of hop spoilage coming forth at 90-120 days old. Luckily this tastes spanking fresh.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of tropical fruits and toasted caramel. Sweet pineapple, mango and grapefruit flavors with a sweet caramel finish.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a TeKu. Very attractive pour, a nearly opaque bright yellow with a two-finger white head and decent retention and lacing. This has a solid malt structure while allowing the hops to predominate. Big flavors of orange, lemon, and grapefruit, with some light malt sweetness and a ton of zesty bitterness that lingers on the palate. Orange zest on the finish, with a little orange juicy sweetness on the aftertaste. This is seriously good stuff!

Galaxy hopped, strongish IPA, served in a goblet at the brewery.

Pours a pale orange with a white wispy head.

Smells faint and fruity. Straightforward contemporary hop profile. It's nice but so are hundreds of other news beers that are more or less indistinguishable from this one.

Tastes more interesting than the aroma led me to anticipate. Fruity hop front, peaty and bready back end.

Look - slightly cloudy golden color with good creamy white head and skimming
Smell - straight galaxy hops so of course I love it!
Taste - tropical fruit with a good malt backbone
Feel - medium body and carbonation
Overall - pretty good beer but lacking what I was expecting for taste, still good!

12oz bottle, no apparent freshness date but looks like a July release; maybe a but past its prime but appears to have been refrigerated rather than shelved
A - foamy & rocky ivory head caps a very hazy golden colored ale; thick lacing is left at the top of the glass & trickles down as I drink the beer
S - quite muted aroma of biscuity grain and lemon-limey hops, passionfruit, and pineapple
T - very hop forward, bitter, juicy, and tart; mostly lime and lemon juice with some passion fruit, grapefruit, pineapple, and orange along with some wheaty malt and honey. Unfortunately reminds me of a tropical fruit juice of sorts with extra lime juice added for a pucker effect
M - medium body, ample carbonation, quite harsh on the palate from both the hops and the hot alcohol; finishes bitter with lemon-lime puckering the palate
O - this is a big disappointment for me. It's basically a hop tea here and the alcohol pushes it to the brink of being undrinkable. It needs some malt flavor to help balance it out.
