Notes: A hint of clove, a touch of cinnamon...decide for yourself, but, nope, there aren't any gimmicks behind the flavor of this refreshing Wiezen. Just basic ingredients playin' their favorite tunes.

I found this in a bargain bin and it had no label. I did some research after determining it was a wheat beer, and had only the cap to go on. I believe I found the correct beer.

Pours a golden color with a fast disappearing white fluffy head, 2 fingers to start maybe.

Aromas of clove, wheat, banana, ash.

Flavor is refreshing and crisp, hints of wheat and clove; light peppery notes, faint hop on the finish.

Feel is crisp, clean, refreshing, all of the above.

Easy one to review. Pretty good beer without pushing the boundaries too much.

Nice spice aroma, sweet wheat taste and spices are tasty, body seems a tad thin, finishes nicely. This one I could have on a regular basis.

Pours a cloudy, maize color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Good retention and great retention.
Smells of clove, slight sweet malt, yeast, pale malt, hint of citrus, and wheat. Fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of wheat, strong clove, slight sweet malt, pale malt, slight earthy malt, hint of hop, and slight yeast. Overall, good appearance, great feel, and good blend.

Draft at the source. Coralville, IA. Cloudy yellow body with a thin cap. Classic hefeweizen nose. Lots of banana. Moderate sweetness. Light body. Pretty good.

L: Good hefeweizen color (hazy gold) but looses it's head quickly. No lacing.
S: Smells like a hefeweizen - citrus notes over a fresh gingerbread scent.
T: Hard not to let the mouth-feel detract from the taste, but here it goes. On a full draw, the spirit of a hefe is there. It finishes a little flat - too close to the taste of stale beer.
F: Too much of a carbonated bite, not as smooth as I'd like
O: It'll do in a pinch. Not nearly as good as its German cousins, but there are worse imitations.

12 oz bottle, poured into a bell glass at approximately 40 degrees F.

A: Pours into the glass the color of heavy clover honey, an orange-amber cloudy brew with bubbles continually streaming up from the bottom. No real head forms to speak of, nor any lacing.

S: Fruit esters leap out at the forefront, banana and peach, with some clove and coriander spiciness towards the end.

T: Pale bread with the spices and fruits as promised by the nose, swirling delicately across the tongue. There's a bit of a sharp edge to the flavors, a citrusy acidity.

M: Heavily carbonated, and quite so, this beer is otherwise relatively light in body.

O: Overall, a decently executed hefe, with the expected flavor profile. The carbonation is a bit on the higher side.

Sampling right now on 8/21/14. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a 'CHEER'S -BOSTON" pilsner glass.

Pours a pretty amber in color with a light haze with a thin white head with no lacing actually to speak of. A good amount of sediment is seen in the bottle of the bottle as is common for this type of brew. The aroma of grains with some spice, which is probably clove actually. The taste of cloves is right up front on the tongue followed by the wheat sweetness. A slight dry finish is noted also. Overall, as I mentioned before that 'Hefe's' (Wheat) beers are all over the board. This one is a good one.

12 oz bottle poured into a Weizen glass.
5.5% ABV

Thanks to BottleCaps80 for this and a bunch of others Backpocket brews in an IP!

A - Generously poured, swirled, and poured, Penny Whistle pours with creamy and tall white head that plateaus to a lumpy pile, coating the glass in rings of lace. The tight foam is fed by strong carbonation visibly rushing through the golden yellow beer.

S - Penny Whistle's aroma is immediately reminiscent of a classic Bavarian hefe with a dash of clove and faint banana yeast ester character but those delicate attributes, along with the soft wheat nose, are overshadowed by a dirty plume of dust kicked into the air.

T - Extreme carbonation prickles the tongue making it hard to taste the beer but, it's soft wheat and grainy pale malt flavor open up bringing just a hint of clove into the mix for an easy drinking flavor profile.

M - Outrageously effervescent carbonation takes a hold of the tongue, masking the wheat's soft body and supple taste for a biting finish that's a little hard to swallow.

O - Backpocket Penny Whistle starts with a nice inviting appearance of a hefe with it's faintly hazed golden color and moves to a classic-starting nose but dryness gets in the way only to be followed by an overly carbonated body that masks it's otherwise nice (and delicate) flavor. This American hefe would make for a great summer beer or one to cleanse the palate between tasting lighter cheeses.
