Don't let the Slingshot's color fool you, it has a light body and smooth complexities that will remind you to never judge a book by its cover. Or, more likely, it'll just remind you that beer is a pretty darn good thing.

Serving: On tap at Short's in Iowa City
Served: 2 Jan 2015

Appearance: Pours a clear brown with slight amber notes around the edges. Dark, but not black. Covered with a small half-finger head that leaves slight lacing.

Smell: Crisp clean smell of wheat bread and brown sugar sweetness.

Taste: Slight notes of deep gooey caramel and bread crust. Lacking many of the more nuanced flavors of slight roastiness or pumpernickel common to other beers in the style.

Mouthfeel: Thinner than anticipated.

Overall: A serviceable brew, and one that I could session a few of, but one on the lower end of the taste scale.

From a bom can into a pint glass. Pour had a 1/2" head of light khaki foam over a clear reddish-brown body. Scent is pretty muted due to the subtle malts. Taste comes across much clearer with caramel, raisin, and a bready backbone countered lightly be notes of herbal spice. Feel is smooth, medium bodied, and has a mildly bitter aftertaste. A bit uneven but ultimately enjoyable!

A Microbrewery Club offering. Pours a medium brown color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma is nutty with roasted malts. Taste is sweet and refreshing. Enjoyable!

Appearance: Pours a fairly clear, reddish hued body with a slim, very short-lived, near white head.

Smell: Dry toasted breadcrust, nut leavings and earthy-scented albeit light hops with a wayward hint of discarded fruitskin.

Taste: Toasty, lightly nutty with a little sweet hint of caramel candy. Unsubstantial touches of tartish fruitskins, dried herbs leading towards the sourish, vexing finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: An uninspired, lackluster dunkel.

12oz can. Bottom lip of can is stamped with '08/02/2022 Drink Local'.
Deep amber colored body. Very light tan head disappears after a few minutes. No lacing.
Aroma is caramel malt, and a whiff of dark bread.
Taste is roasted malts, with the flavors of toffee and tea. Just a little malt in the aftertaste.
Thinner mouth feel. Crisp and a touch sour. Okay carbonation.
Good thirst quencher but does not have much depth or richness.

Pours caramel with light beige quickly fading cap from a bottle. Warm caramel and brown sugar notes with a touch of holiday cinnamon spice. A bit flat and watery after my previous imperial stout. Good for a lager dunkel at 5.3% ABV.

I tried this beer at the brewery as part of a five sample flight. It poured a clear amber with no head and no lace. The scent had subtle dark malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with malt base and German hop presence. The mouthefeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

12oz bottle, no apparent freshness date. Thanks to my uncle Gary for giving me a bottle to try. Mahogany colored beer with a very thin beige head. Earthy hops and dark malts for aroma. Flavors are sweet and malty with notes of caramel, burnt caramel, cola, roasted barley, char, earthy & spicy noble hops. Medium body, sticky sweet, ample carbonation. Good, easy drinking beer with satisfying flavors.

12 oz bottle poured into Ommegang snifter.

The color on this is really nice. Reddish hues with mahogany and cherry shades, and dark brown edging. The head is fluffy and 1 finger tall, yellowish in appearance.

Nice fruity aromas of apple, with cocoa, plum/cherry/fig, grape, and barley malt.

Flavor brings dried peaches, with slight prune, molasses, chocolate, and apple core. Some dark toast notes and black tea also appear, with a good presence of barley and special B.

Semi-slick feel, with a good level of carbonation, very slight wood and resins hanging on at the finish. Mostly slick.

Overall a very well done Dunkel. Can't find a whole lot wrong with this one.
