Style: American Brett

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Serenity is our aptly named 100% brettanomyces fermented beer. Light in color with a subtle golden haze, the nose bursts of white grape, mango, pineapple and old leather. The flavors are similar to those found in New Zealand white wines and notes of guava and grape skin stand out leading to a well-rounded finish. Serenity won the Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal for American-Style Brett Beer in 2013.

Thanks to mrbubbler for sharing this one at the Revenge Of Instant Replay bottleshare held at Instant Replay in Canoga Park, CA.

Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, grain, lemon, acidic, and Brett aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly sour malt, grain, Brett, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty but seems to have a more sour aspect in the aroma to me.

500mL bottle from Sherlock's (Marietta, GA). 11.99. Bottled 7/10/15. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter.

Pours a pale, fully opaque, straw yellow with a three quarter finger cap of white head. The froth lingers before settling to a thin veneer across the surface and a full halo that imparts some large clouds of lace.

Aromas of softly funky Brett, earthy oak, hay and just a hint of vague fruit. Pleasant overal with more to it that I can accurately specify.

Tons of Brett character up front and throughout in the flavor, intermingled with wet hay, oak, faint fruit, vague spice, earth, mild citrus zest. This has some nice layers of flavor and goes down quite easily.

Crisp, fairly light body with lively carbonation. Brett continues to be at the forefront in the finish along with earthy oak, a vague pineapple or citrusy element and wet hay.

If you're a fan of Brettanomyces then Wicked Weed's Serenity is well worth a try. I'm not a big fan of farmhouse ales but enjoyed this enough that I plan to buy a couple more in hopes that I can allow that Brett to further develop over time.

Received as a thank you beer and poured from the bottle. Grading to style this is highly disappointing. Little to no funk on the nose and the taste is weak. Like when you leave a mountain dew out all night and drink it in the morning. I've never really been a fan of WW sours and this is the most disappointing of the bunch.

500ml bottle poured into two maple syrup glasses that make nice snifter types.

1 finger of head that dissipates quickly to a thin layer
Nose is not strong but exhibits some of the wine barrel aged.
Color is light golden straw.
Excellent carbonation.
Mouthfeel is light bodied, slight sweet syrupness at first giving way to mild tartness.
Taste is amazing. Wine and sour grapes. Simple and pure awesomess.
I love this beer. One of the best by WW. Highly recommended and if you can do it side by side with a Russian River Temptation.

Pours a brilliant dandelion yellow with a slight haze but rather clear with a bubbly finger of white foam that dissipates leaving little head.

Citric notes of pineapple and lemon, must, grass, grape skin, and a bretty funk.

Much more vinous in flavor with a burst of grape skin and oak, balanced by citrus fruit and a bit of earthy hops.

Light-bodied, high carbonation, mildly tart, funky, bone-dry finish.

Overall, I was unfortunately a bit let down by this. While it is certainly drinkable, it lacks complexity that makes it rather dull.
