On tap at Good Bottle Co. in Charlotte.

Color is a nice burnt orange. Smells of the blood orange with some barnyard. Can get the tamarind as well. Very rustic. Very clean.

Get the initial tartness with some raspberry and orange, with the Brett coming through. Dry with a lingering aftertaste that is awesome.

One of the best sours I've had. Great job!

500mL bottle procured from Wicked Weed's brew pub (Asheville, NC). 10.95. No bottling date. Served in a goblet.

Pours ruddy chestnut with two fingers of ecrue froth. The head quickly dissipates to a meager halo, leaving behind only a few tiny specks on the glass.

Smells funky and fruity. Barnyard, hay, oranges, clove and vague mint.

Flavors are an interesting and intense collision of tamarind sweetness, blood orange citrus and Brett funk. The fruits really tame the overall taste so it is only mildly tart. Brett seems dominant with tamarind and blood orange right behind followed by mint, hay, chalk, earth, faint cloves, rope and a very subdued sweetness. Nice and fruity overall without any overly harsh sour funk.

An almost dull, medium feel with very little carbonation. There is barely enough fizz to keep this from feeling flat on the palate. Finishes dry with tamarind, a mild Brett funk and faint blood orange.

Not the blood orange bomb I was hoping for but I appreciate that this must be young enough that the Brett hasn't crowded out the flavorful fruit additions. The flavors seem to linger somewhere between a farmhouse, a wild ale and a fruit beer. Interesting hybrid and I don't lament having a couple more.

on-tap, at the brewery

"Malice is the land between sour beer and Brett beer. The beer was brewed with over 100 lbs of Tamarind, Blood Orange and lime zest. Dirty straw orange in color, it’s bursting with earthy funky tartness and finishes with heavy citrus skin and tart citrus. The land between is so good!"

Wicked Weed certainly gets an A for effort - not particularly sour or wild - definitely get a bit of yeasty goodness though. The tamarind was lost on me, but the citrus flavors were nice. Wicked Weed is adventurous and makes some really interest beers - I've just yet to find one that is really 'great'

500 mL bottle poured into a taster.

Appearance - Hazy orange body with a nice white head. Medium collar.

Smell - Lots of oak and barrel. Vanilla. Earthy brett. Light citrus and wine aroma.

Taste - Pleasantly tart and bretty. More citrusy. Distinct orange flavor. Wine flavors are syringe as well. Earthy and woody brett finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Well carbonated.

Overall - The orange flavors don't quite pop, but they make enough of an impression for this to be an interesting beer.
