Divergence is Bourbon Barrel Aged Sour Porter. This porter was barrel aged on brett for 8 months and blended onto dry processed coffee post barrel aging. This beer's flavor is a beautiful blend of a soft tartness and maltiness with a hint of coffee on the end.

Bottled in 2014. Opened 9/1/15.
A - First impression is great. Two fingers of a thick, creamy, tan head forms, and sticks around for a while - not typical of sours. Beer looks midnight black.
S - A little coffee in the nose. Tobacco. Super sweet cherries. A well rounded yet piercing sour. Wood. Vanilla. Molasses. So much going on.
T - Same as the nose. Coffee is a bit more pronounced. And the tart cherry is dominant throughout - almost a warming characteristic because of it. There's so much going on in this. I feel like the bourbon might be getting lost a bit. It's very subtle on the finish. Some oak and vanilla. Just dirtying it up a bit.
F - A bit fuller bodied than you'd expect from a sour. Low carbonation. I'm digging it.
O - I remember having this a few times in the past - on tap at WW and from the bottle once before. Never was all that impressed with it. I'm really liking it tonight though. There's a lot going on, but for the most part, everything plays very nicely together. A nice sipper. But it's going down super easy.

500 ml - $21 served at The Funkatorium from an oak stave lambic basket.
Pours pitch black, solid head retention for a sour. Vanilla, bourbon and coffee on the nose with a light hint of funk and acid as a little something extra. Smells like coffee cake with a spritz of lemon juice. Palate follows but with more acidity and is substantially drier than the dessert aroma would have you believe. Phenomenal brew. Top 2 WW sour for me so far.

Shared at the Malt House while waiting for Great Taste tickets.
Appears medium brown in body with darker hues. Half finger brown head, no retention, some lacing. Smells of rich roasted coffee but with some vinegar, lactic acid aromas. Some toasted malt in the background. Flavour is similar, more of the toasted malt, dark chocolate to accompany the roasted black coffee. There is a fair amount of lactic acidity, lemon zest, a mild funk, but overall the flavours of the sour component are muted behind the coffee. Which makes for a more interesting drinking experience. Moderately complex, lots to tease out as the beer warms up. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, on the lower end of carbonation, mildly dry finish. Not difficult to drink. Overall, a nice coffee sour porter that brings a fair amount of complexity to the table. Kind of fun to drink though not one I would necessarily seek out again.
