Foggy gold-apricot with a moderate, frothy fizz that clings in wavy layers of lace.

Smell is tart orange, lemon, and grapefruit zest with a little cherry paired with bright, popping funk and fresh baled hay with a touch of cracker.

Taste starts as very tart lemon zest and rind, with green apple and Jolly Rancher, just the faintest hints of light oak funk, and cheese far in the background.

Despite the dry sour finish, the body is soft and frothy.

"Amorous is aged in red wine barrels for approximately 8-10 months and then dry-hopped with over 3.5 pounds per barrel. We love this beer both fresh off the dry hop and cellar aged." Brewed in the style of an American Wild Ale, available in 500ml. bottles and on rotating draft.

Poured from a 500ml. bottle to a tulip glass.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp, foamy head of a pastel white over a mildly hazy copper amber body with assertive carbonation. Retention is good and lacing is light and spotty. 3.75

(Smell) Caramel bread malts with a modest sweetness, very clean with a potent and aromatic blend of tropical fruit hop aromas, gentle bitterness. Light acidity and sourness from the souring compounds. Potency is moderate. 4

(Taste) The flavor has a noticeable increase in souring qualities over hop character, with a moderate tanginess and lightly drying acidity. The dry hopping flavors contribute some dimension to the finish, but is far more subtle than in the aroma; still perceptible and enjoyable. Finishes tangy with a complimentary tropical fruit richness to it. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly chewy, moderately acidic, medium dry. Carbonation is modest, generating a medium frothiness and a mildly crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium overall. Balance is slightly tangy and acidic over sweet. Alcohol presence is low and there are no off characters. 3.75

(Overall) An enjoyable soured ale, although I think this would fare better fresh, despite Wicked Weed's suggestion that it cellars well (Admittedly, it does). While there is considerable dry hopping flavor, notably tropical fruits that accentuate the finish, the balance is shifted significantly from these dry hopping characters and the sourness is the main focus of the beer's flavor. With a slightly less prominent souring profile, or a noticeably more prominent hop flavor profile, this beer would be outstanding. As it stands, it's pretty solid, but the limitations of the dry hopping leave something to be desired. 3.75

Had this on 2016-10-21 in Lititz, PA from a 6-month-old bottle.

Delicious. Sour (not excessively so) and very, very dry. Light peach fruit and mild hop floral. Some oak and a hint of the wine flavor from the barrel. Some light Brett funk. Couldn't discern what the purpose of the dry hopping was. My wife really enjoyed it; as did I.

ours a reddish orange color with high carbonation evident and two inches of off white head. Red wine, sour dark fruits, vinegar, spices, Belgian yeast, oak, and citrus hops. Very tart. Medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall not as fruity or sour as Oblivion, but quite good; definitely a hoppier sour.

Pours out a pale golden straw color (lighter than I would have thought).

Aroma starts off with red berry notes, oak, earthy funk and also has tropical, citrusy and juicy hop notes that compliment the other smells.

Taste starts with bright mango, peach, passionfruit, continues into the red wine barrel notes with dried red fruit like cherries and hints of raspberries, bit of oak, grassy, earthy, barnyard, funky Brett notes follow as well. Finishes with tropical fruit, red berry and hints of oak.

Medium bodied, crisp, clean, very refreshing and lightly dry.

Awesome beer and I'd love to see what this is like with some age.

L - pours an absolutely crystal clear straw gold. Was not expecting this based on the advertised dry hopping and WW's usual fare. Almost looks like a Pilsner! Sticky foamy head... the ABV is showing.

S - farmhouse funk, lemon zest, and apple pear cider. Has a strong, deeply resonating aroma with good backbone.

T - there are the hops! Tart upfront, but the hoppy bitterness quickly pushes aside the sourness. Full-bodied flavor that actually supports the tart. A lot of times you have the sour that comes rushing to the forefront, but fizzles out into nothing more than a party trick. This one has lasting power. Green apples, blackberries. The finish is one of the best I've seen in a sour. The bitterness and tartness disappear to make way for lemon candy sweetness. Like when you suck all the sour crap off a lemon warhead. Pulls everything together and tidies up nicely. Well-balanced and dare I say the dry hopping actually adds to that balance!

F - robust, thick body for a sour. Perfect amount of carbonation that doesn't fight to get in the way of the flavor.

O - fantastic sour. Heavy on the hops, especially Mosaic and Centennial which gives it a sweeter, dank flavor. Best of all worlds. Some tart, some funk, some hops, some sweet. I bet the latter comes out more which a few years in the cellar.

First had poured from 16.9-oz. bottle, stamped bottled on "6.26.15," and 7.00 ABV, into TEKU. Dry hopping might not make everything better, but why not try it and see?

500 ml poured into a tulip glass. Born on 3/10/16.

A - Ruby red with orange highlights. One finger head that moves to a thin lace relatively quickly.

S - Sour, funk, lemon, hops/grapefruit.

T - Tart, apple/pear/lemon, undercurrent of berries. High on the sour factor.

M - Carbonation high, sharp, dry finish.

O - Get your taste buds in order for this one. I am extremely interested as to what this would be like as it mellows/ages.

Very pale body with a slight haze. Bone white head that builds up high initially. Retention and lacing are good for a sour.

The dry hop comes across with orange, pineapple, and floral. Sourness is evident off the aroma.

Flavor is tart and fruity with blood orange and lemon. Hits upfront with the acidity giving way to fruits and ending with some pale malt. Flavor dies off fairly quickly.

Body is lighter side of medium and has some pretty active carbonation. Ends dry.

Small sample at work. I'll skip a detailed review, but it was great and might be the best WW I've had. Looks great, nose is tropical, fruity hops with a hint of acidity. Taste has some much needed acidity, pretty close to a lot of the big boys. Feel is good as expected, overall a great offering from them.

From a 500 ml bottle (2014 vintage) to a teku glass. Reviewed from notes dated February 29, 2016 (Leap Year Beer!).

A-The beer has a rocky, chunky, off-white head that starts at two fingers tall but drops quickly to a thick cap that hangs around for a while. Lacing clings to the glass in chunks. The liquid is a hazy honey color with reddish highlights.

S-Despite this bottle being two-ish years old there is still a lot of tropical hop punch left. I sniff some peaches, tangerine, and apricot among other juicy stone fruit. The light acidity suggests tart cherries, but the beer doesn't smell like a full-on "sour;" more tart and fruity. A light bready malt and earthy funk compliments things.

T-The taste is also lightly sour with a nice oaky dryness that plays well with the dry hopping. A little more barrel character comes through on the palate with suggestions of tannic red wine. Mostly though, there is a consistent, nicely layered dry hop flavor with moderate acidity, citrus, and stone fruit.

M-The body is bigger and heavier than average for the style. This bottle also still packed a good amount of chunky carbonation.

O-This is a nicely done dry hopped sour beer. Many examples of this style can really fall off after some time in the bottle, but this one is still drinking great. Complex flavors and a nice feel make this a winner in my book.

Crystal clear yellow with effervescent carbonation. Looks like a sparkling wine.

Smells like apple juice, grapes, and lemon, grapefruit, and grassy.

Vinous flavor. Grapes and green apple. The hops add citrus flavors but it isn't bitter. Quite sour.

Mouthfeel is thin and crisp. Zesty. Dry.

Very nice. The hops add a nice citrus aroma and it's a clean sour.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dusted orange color. Pretty head. Super sour, tart nose. There is also a thick hoppiness. Its behind the sour. The hopping didn't go to waste. The flavor is massive and delicious. The sourness is impressive. The hops and barrel are overwhelmed by the sourness. I'm in the mood for this flavor. Agressive! Medium bodied. Lasting flavor. Dries out my tongue, I lost a molar. Expensive but memorable.

Yields little more than thin dusting of foam across the surface, snow white, any lacing is super-thin and snakes around the glass. The liquid is a clear coppery orange with a curiously large number of widely dispersed bubbles throughout, pretty in spite of the lack of head. Strong pungency to the nose, vinous in nature, the sourness clearly its calling card, evoking white grape, cherry, cranberry scents and lemon, there is a fresh (not dank) funkiness to it of manure, tilled earth, wet fallen leaves, and a lesser degree of tar and matchstick. Medium-bodied, the carbonation gives it a big frothiness upon mouth entry and lifts it sufficiently off the palate so that the sourness does not become overbearing. Lemon and some lime citrus is extremely tart, here you get pineapple, kiwi and green apple alongside the cherry fruit flavors. Cleaner here with less merde and more hay, wheat germ, and fallen tree wood, loses a lot of the “sous bois” qualities of the nose. Some toasty and yeasty notes, particularly as it finishes. Texturally, the sourness numbs your tongue so that by the time you are close to finishing the bottle you feel like you are registering fewer nuances. Needs to be sipped slowly over time or served with food to keep it fresh on the palate.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Bottled Oct 23rd 2015.

Deep orange to yellow body color, fairly opaque but not hazy, and an almost peach like glow. Very noticeable side streaming carbonation in tan fine white bubbles along the sides, matching to a small creamy half finger simple white head. Collar thins a bit over time, and a nice bit of rising carbonation in the center.

Wonderful aromatic nose. Peach fruit like hop tones and floral qualities. Some deceptive subtle dryness that comes out almost cedar like smelling and cigar box aromas. Wood sawdust embers and shavings as well. This is real impressive.

The palate is incredibly juicy and full of exceptional depth. Rushing juiced peach qualities and a bit of cherry as well, with an explosive fruit mid palate combination. Mild acidity and very subtle malt sweetness as well. Chewy body with low carbonation, but a slightly prickly finish which adds much fun on the palate.

Real juiced up wild, that has only moderate touches of funk and excellent malt depth and matching sweetness. Excellent brew from the Wicked.

500ml bottle poured into a teku glass, bottled

A- pours a bright deep golden color with a small foamy white head that retains for awhile before settling to a ring around the glass, specs of lacing left behind

S- fruity and funky aroma with some woodsy notes, along with vinous aromas and hint of perfume. Fruity aromas of pineapple, cantaloup & lemon peel, along with some grassy and floral notes

T- tart and juicy tropical fruit bursts out with notes of mango, pineapple, melon, lemon peel & lime. Vinous and woodsy notes kick in mid-palate before finishing with some notes of strawberry, dry puckering finish

M- medium body with moderate-light carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a bone dry, tart finish

O- nice fruity notes throughout with plenty of pucker power

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a crystal clear golden hue with a thin white head that fades to leave light halo and blanket.

S - Aromas of light funky brett, light esters, faint tartness. Nice light tropical fruits, good light grassy hops, floral.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, the funk is nice and light with good dry hops, almost like a powdered sweet tart sour candy thing going on. Nice pineapple and lemon along with good white wine. There is a nice lightly tart finish too.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, smooth, little creamy.

O - Overall this beer was rather tasty, excellent usage of hops and brett. Well done.

Light fizzy fluffy head, little lacing, mostly clear lemony yellow color.

Nose tart sour fruity, nice citrus tropical generic hops, juicy creamy orange, little tart lemony, mild grassy funk, wheat grassy malts, quite floral, hint white wine vinous.

Taste quite tart, mild grassy funk, floral grassy and funky, lemony tartness, little grassy lemon funk, light acidity, little grassy wheat like malts. Then nice hops, big floral citrus hops, fruity tropical notes, little generic like tropical and touch of pineapple like, juicy orange, some white wine. Finish little sticky flemmy mostly dry, tart lemony funk, little citrus, vinous notes.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb.

Overall quite nice, great combo of grassy make lemony funk and tropical citrus pineapple fruit with nice mild white wine in the background.

On tap In a snifter, Moderately cloudy muted tangerine, with 1 finger of creamy head that leaves great lacing. Nose is nice: elderberries, wine barrelly grapes, faint hops and soft yeast. On the tongue, kicked up a couple notches...delicious! Nice prickly liveliness in mouthful.

500mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 14.99. Bottled 10/23/15. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter.

Pours a hazy, pale, golden orange with a three quarter finger cap of white head. The full collar of froth that remains leaves several wide swaths of lacing.

Smells quite funky and slightly hoppy. Lots of wine and barrel funk up front with complementing citrus, faint pine and some vaguely floral notes

The hops are more faint in the taste than anticipated from the nose. Flavors of red wine, sour berries, citrus rind, barrel funk, apple skins, a little bit of faint pine and some vaguely floral notes. Any alcohol presence in the taste is fully masked by the wine, barrel funk and subtle hops.

Medium body with softly zesty carbonation. The aftertaste is a blend of sour citrus, earthy funk and wine barrel.

If you have enjoyed other wild ales from Wicked Weed then Amorous will not disappoint. It delivers less hop presence than I'd hoped for but is still delicious. These guys consistently produce high quality brews so I intend to continue trying them despite the well above average cost of admission.

I thought this beer deserved a 5, but it seems 5's are rare here and that would likely devalue my opinion.

I had this beer 3 months ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. I had never heard of dry hopped sours before this, but it instantly became my favorite beer of all time. I went back to Wicked Weed from GA hoping to buy several more, only to find out it is no longer in production. If it comes back I will be buying several.

If you see this beer and have even the slightest appreciation of sours, buy it.

had this bottle for a while, felt like the right time...

semi transparent sienna orange. nose is sweet tart funk on the funky side of the spectrum. taste is similar bit has a nice sweetness to the tart. really tasty beer, but subtle. more introductory sour. dry hopping shows a hint of being there with some OJ tartness in the background. kind of like a watered down version of a deGarde dry hopped sour. enjoyable and drinking nice at the moment.

I'm going to premise this review by clearly stating I'm a peasant who knows absolutely nothing about sours / farmhouse style brews. My hat is off to that last guy's review (I've read many to attempt to get an idea of what a sour should be). I've tried many, drain poured the first few thinking I had a bad batch. Holy crap though, I made my wife read that review to me in a sultry voice, it sounded like something from a dirty romance novel. Well done, we should do a bottle share sometime. I totally agree "it is a clean and palette stripping taste with essence of funky freshness." ... why am I getting turned on!!!?

In regards to this beer, I was impressed with the look and smell. It looked golden crisp and had a sharp tart smell ... then the flavor hit me. Definitely sour, have no idea what the red wine barrel did for the beer, maybe gave it a little extra vinegar in your face flavor? I made it through and feel a better man for finishing. I personally find myself associating activities and seasons with styles of beer I truly enjoy. I find myself asking, what season does the sour pair with? I find this beer interesting... but wouldn't naturally grab it after say mowing the lawn or cracking open on a cold winter night.

Definitely give this one a try though! Thanks beerdude88 for throwing this in with the trade, I really do enjoy trying new things.

Surprisingly smooth and tantalizing bitter and sour interplay, the love affair that's exemplified in this wine barrel-aged, sour ale is a clean and palate stripping taste with essence of funky freshness.

The golden elixir is scantily cladded with a hazy veil as it builds a creamy and lathery froth. Above which releases its fruity and funky aura- equipped with juicy citrus, a curriously vinous tingle and a perfumy bouquet of tropical fruit. Underneath, the taste gently rolls onto the tongue with hints of sweetheart candy, fresh-baked bread and a modest fructose weave.

The ale simply blossoms across the middle palate. Its radiant tropical fruits waiver from pineapple, mango, papaya and melon and into the nearly teeth-churning sourness of lemon wedge, dried lime, sour grape and kiwi. Flavors develop quickly as the hop contribution forecast a bitter and resinous finish. But instead, sourness exhumes.

Caldering from below, the vinous tang of chardonnay and dry champagne carry a robust rosé taste that's remiss of strawberry and pomegranate. And once the dry and bubbly ale finishes, the palate is greeted with the lingering bitterness of citrus pith and earthen burlap.

Tasty stuff. Thanks Brent56 for hooking me up again. The sour elemenmt is prominent yet underscores and never overwhelmsthe citrusy taste. A sipper, very good with food.
