$ 10.59 (Including tax)/500 mL capped bottle ($ 0.627/oz) at Lionville Beverage, Exton, PA.
“Date bottled 05.11.17” clearly marked on the label. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 54 degrees in a hand-washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Light orange, hazy. Some sediment on bottom of the bottle.
Head – Large (Maximum 5.5 cm, slow center pour), white, dense and creamy with a few rocks, good retention, slooowly diminishing to a three to five mm ring and a complete thin layer with a rocky center island. Head retraction provides some open lacing. Head from second pour is the same but only half the size.
Lacing – Initially complete thick rings of tiny bubbles. As the level drops, the rings become connected by columns.
First pour – Light yellow, clear. Second pour has only slight haze.
Aroma – 3.75 - Fermenting fruit. Lasts.
Flavor – 4 – Mellow without the frequently harsh funkiness produced by Brettanomyces species. A hint of fruity sweetness followed by some low-key funk. The funk lasts into the aftertaste. Distinct malt or hops flavors are not present. No alcohol, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 - Medium, watery, lively carbonation.
Impression and summation – 4 – Other than the palate, this is an above-average brett saison. The appearance is good, the aroma intriguing, the flavor mellow and lacking the frequently jarring flavor combinations of Brettanomyces species -fermentation. Only the palate is amiss, being somewhat over carbonated for the viscosity – either less carbonation or a thinner brew.

Appearance: Hazy yellow, big white head and excellent lacing.

Aroma: Big bubblegum/funk brett character.

Flavor: Peppery, and mild to moderate funk from the yeast. Little bit of grassy hops, light grain and orange peel.

Mouthfeel: Medium light dryness.

Hazy lemon custard, or a dim shade of gold, there's a huge puffy cumulus cloud of foam billowing up and over the edge in a gravity defying instant, then slowly receding into the glass. Flecks and chunks slough off, coating the glass with plenty of random lacing.

When the bottle is first opened there was a vinegar aroma which had me worried, but in the glass there's no trace. Slightly bretty, dried herbs and cracked grains, with a hint of wet hay. Not especially funky or approaching rustic really, but pleasant in it's own right.

Taste is well rounded, a light tartness meets a malty fullness to the body that also lends a mild grainy sweetness. Lightly musty hay with a dry and slightly bitter aftertaste. Not overly phenolic or spicy thankfully, it's very drinkable and quenching after a long day. Overall this was a nice Brett beer, not all that rustic or funky, but pleasant tasting and drinkable.

Poured from a tall bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Cloudy light copper brown pour. 2 fingers of foamy white head. Solid rim of lacing.

S: Funky... brett and lemon. Tart fruit.

T/F: Tart without being sour. Lots of funk and brett character. Tart fruits... pear, green apple rind, lemon, and grassy. Crackery malts... mild sweetness in the background. The finish is green fruit and funk. Medium to light in body... smoother than expected.

O: A solid brett'ed up farmhouse ale. Good mix of tart fruit and funk. Was expecting a bit more based on the brewery's reputation but certainly enjoyable.

500ml Bottle

Wil surprised me with one of these guys on my visit. Thanks, guy! Bretticent is apricot golden with minimal haziness running throughout. The foam is lively and large bubbled, growing to over two fingers in height on the pour. It instantly becomes craggy, chunky, and sticky coating the glass like super glue.

The nose is saison fruity. Bright peach opens up immediately with an herbal hoppiness. Bubblegum esters flash through occasionally. Brett adds a mellow hay like funkiness. Pale, grainy malt is forefront in the grain department but there is a wheaty twang in the back. As the beer settles the malt backbone shines but with a quick swirl the peach comes right back, green apple as well. Appetizing, if a little mild.

Peach is a little fizzy and a little sweet even, reminding me of peach ring candy, but it's short lived. This saison is grain driven with clean barley and a wheat twang. I don't get much spice from the added rye. Yeast throws off a few esters, mostly soft bubblegum, while brett adds a touch of depth with notes of hay. As this beer warms pineapple notes linger. Well rounded, nicely done.

Up front the body feels like it will be a touch thin but as it works through it becomes luxurious in it's consistency. The weight lies firmly between light and moderate but there's a full feel that I enjoy.Carbonation is lively. The finish is dry with a soft lingering bitterness.

As I said before. This beer is well rounded with a lot of welcomed flavor profiles. Yeast character, grain bill, hop additions, even the brett, though subtle, all add something to the overall enjoyment of this beer. Recommend? Yes! Thanks, Wilson!

An interesting variation on a Saison. All the characteristics you'd expect: Golden, filmy head, aroma that's both grainy and a bit spicy, plus a bit of funk, which can be found in both the smell and taste. Personally, I found slightly acidic, slightly barnyard flavor notes helped in attenuating the characteristic coriander spiciness usually found in Saisons.

Bottle poured into a snifter. The brew appears a hazy golden yellow color with a huge white head that fills most of the glass. Some patchy lacing covers the glass as the cap fades.

The aroma includes notes of banana, clove and pepper with a little extra fruity touch towards the back. Saison or hefeweizen (?) I have no idea what this is suppose to be prior to looking it up here.

The taste is dry with neutral grain flavoring and a spice like clove. A soft touch of herbal hops countere that with a hint of peppery spice and mild tropical fruit aftertaste. Whereas the nose was leading me into hefeweizen territory, im happy to report the flavor is firmly in the saison realm.

This is a light bodied brew with a moderate amount of carbonation. For the most part this is a well crafted ale however, I dont see myself ever wanting to shell out the money that these cost.
