From a 500 ml bottle (botted May 6, 2015) to a tulip.

A-The beer isn't quite white, but it is a pretty light shade of orange. It clear, still, and somewhat vinous looking. The short head fades immediately leaving no lacing and just the slightest collar of white foam.

S-The aroma is pretty tart with a nice fruity, brett funk. I sniff white grape and apricot mostly. The acidity level is high, but this year-old bottle seems to have mellowed a bit.

T-The taste is similar to the smell. Sourness is high and suggests sweet tarts at first, but better. The beer is too sour to taste truly vinous, but flavors are similar; I pick up peach, apricot, a bit of bread, and white wine grape. A mild oaky note lurks under the fruit and the brett funkiness integrates nicely with the acidity.

M-The body is just on the heavy side of average with a prickly carbonation and semi-slick finish.

O-This is a very good beer. I typically don't enjoy beers with grape juice or must added to them, but this one proves to be an exception. It paired really well with the salmon I had for dinner...just like a full bodied chardonnay might.

With a big emphasis on the character of white wine, the brewers of Wicked Weed take this ale as far as it can go with natural grain, hop and microflora to exhibit the natural acidity in beer. But where the beer trails off, the blended use of grapes, must and white wine barrels step in and finish the job.

Golden in color and shining with a bright and juicy bulb, the tulip catches the eye with its brilliant sun kissed hues. And that's where any comparison to beer will stop, because its spritzy and spirited foam is short and zesty; wisping away like sparkling champagne. Bold grape and vine aromas are tangy, tart and radiant with the fruit-soaken booze scent of white wine and well aged cork. Its taste is supple of ale and is pleasantly juicy with fructose and white grape tang- just off of sweetheart candy.

And as its musty vinous scent declines and its fruitiness announces, the tantilizing tang of all things white wine begin to sing their tasty praises- white grape, dry chardonnay, vinous oak, peppery spice, light almond and vanilla all align in a very classic winey taste. But the uniqueness of crabapple, lemony warheads, bitter lime zest and bitter grapefruit offer a 'wild' attribute. Delving more and more into sourness, the finish is acutely acetic and off-vinegar with rice wine and piquant sourness.

Though rendered still late, The ale's clean acidity carries the sour taste into a dry, crisp an clean finish finish. Along with its light body, the ale trails swiftly with sour grape essence and soft leafy bitterness in short after tow.

Interesting sour that veers toward white wine. I'm honestly not sure what to make of the wild wine addition, but there is a subtle fruity white grape character with the spicy brett that brings the dry, tart finish.

Smells like wine, slightly tart, grape after taste, a little vinegar, not much depth, dry, the angel series started strong and seems to be going down hill with each beer... 18.99plus tax is a little pricy for a 500ml average sour...

This is a very fine example of a not overally tart, but very well made sour beer. Extremely drinkable and dry, white wine flavors push through unlike any other spour I've had. It would be easy to drink multiples in one sitting and that's a big compliment.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color; the froth of the head fades quickly; a few dots cling to the glass as the beer is consumed

Smell: Strongly vinous, with an oak barrel character; tart and acetic, with a pithy accent

Taste: There is an interesting, but subtle, flavor of angel food cake (with hints of almond and vanilla) that hits the sweet taste bud receptors but then quickly fades to the background as the vinous flavor takes over, bringing a barrel-aged white wine character; through the finish, the pithy bitterness adds another dimension

Mouthfeel: Medium body with lively carbonation

Overall: This is a beer that brings a lot of subtle elements to the palate; they are not quite obvious on the first sip or two but a careful tasting brings a lot of satisfaction

Bottle shared by Chris. Thanks man!

Golden orange clear body with a small head. Tons of grape character in the aroma. White grape juice and oak, mildly tannic, gentle acetic finish. Juicy and delicious.

500 mL bottle. Hazy orange. Smells of grapes and some vanilla. Light acidity. Tastes of grapes and a strong stone fruit sourness. White wine and oak in the finish. Light vanilla cuts the sourness. Medium body. Pretty nice. Distinctive grape flavor.

My description below might sound newb to the style, which I'm not. But here goes...

Think sour Martenellis Cider with grapes and funk added. In a good way. Delicious. But nothing terribly complex.

10oz tulip on-tap at TRB. Reviewed from notes.

A: Clear, brilliant straw golden with a cap of soft white foam that faded into a wispy film.
S: Smells like the musty white grape juice and cheesy white wine with a touch of sugary sweet grape juice - all in a good way. Amazing.
T: Pure, amazing, complex, and fruity white grape juice. Drinks like a funky white wine with tons of residual sugar and yet a drying finish. Such a unique and interesting flavor that I don't think I've experienced in a beer. Hints of pixie sticks and pez candy in a good way. Touch of cheesey funk throughout.
M: Creamy soft carbonation, medium body and a sticky sweet but crisp mouthfeel. Crispy finish drying but not a desert. No gritty tannins.
O: Despite being borderline cloyingly sweet, this lightens up in the finish. Sugary grape juice flavors coat my mouth and linger forever. Perfumey grape flavor at times.Wonderful.
