Notes: Myrtille is a golden sour ale aged in neutral wine barrels. Two pounds per gallon of fresh, whole blueberries contribute an earthy and tannic backbone to this uniquely southern sour. When the time is right, the barrels are blended to achieve the perfect balance of blueberry and house Brett culture.

500ml bottle. 6.7% ABV. Bottled Oct 2017, so approaching 3 yrs old.
L: Opaque, deep red colour. A few streams of bubbles rise to a thin collar. No head or lacing.
S: Strawberry vinegar.
T&F: Mouth-puckering sourness turns rounded and crisp. Tastes of red currant, strawberry & raspberry. Finish is long and dry.
O: Amazing colour, the colour of ripe strawberries. Indeed, strawberry is the primary fruit reference despite being fermented with blueberries. It’s a very sour ale but it never tastes of vinegar and the complexity of the fruit shines through. Clean, crisp & sharp.

Pours a mostly clear color with a thin pink head that leaves little lacing. Smells of blueberries, currants and a mild sour funk. Tastes of both ripe and tart blueberries, currants, a hint of vanilla, moderate sourness, red wine and oak. Light to medium bodied, light carbonation, tart and dry mouth feel.

another brilliant fruited sour from wicked weed. they are still killing it regardless of their ownership structure. i dont want to hear about that anymore, these beers are insane. my only critique of this gorgeous blueberry brew, like a lot of the wicked weed sours, is that its insanely sour, way too much so to drink a whole lot of, despite the flavor being awesome. i wonder how much more enjoyable some of these could be if they would only scale it back a little. we lose some wild and funk nuance in a lot of them, just bowled over by intense lactic and acetic characteristics. thats as much a commentary on any of them as it is about this one specifically. this has an awesome blueberry complexion, purple like a marker in color, really deep violet and pretty. the aroma, once i get past the sourness, is packed with natural ripe blueberries, sweet from their flesh and tart and tannic from their skins, with a strong red wine and port note to it, subtle cherry and even vanilla to me, trace cinnamon and even dry cocoa, very complex from the real fruit! medium body and i still taste some grain here which is nice, lemony before the harsher acidity sets in, still balanced to some degree by the natural sweetness of the berries. champagne carbonation is fun too, but this is still a small doses thing with such a low ph. great beer, this canvas series has been next level! this is as blueberry as it gets!

Not as complex as others from Wicked Weed. Very light and drinkable. A good starter beer for those that are not into sours. Great with dinner. Wicked Weed is one of the top Sour/Wild beer makers in the US.

Appearance: Pours the color of cranberry juice with a hint of burnt orange; the head fizzes away quickly to a ringlet, leaving a few sudsy splotches

Smell: Funky and tart, with a nose more currant than blueberry

Taste: Starts out tart and grows more sour, with the currant flavors dominant; there is a hint of blueberry that develops through the middle, along with the funk; the finish is oaky and dry, with the sourness lingering

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: The flavor profile here is quite interesting but I was anticipating a stronger blueberry character

Delicious blueberry sour. Great smell, with hints of wine. Good purplish color. Blueberries come though in the taste but still very crisp and not too sweet.

Purplish blueberry with a small head and no lacing. Smells of sour wine notes, pungent. Blueberry, aged grapes, oak, tart berry and and slight wine like character. Crisp, clean, and dry! This was amazing, nice sour.

Pours reddish-purple, shiny with mild haze. Small pinkish head which vanishes quickly. No lacing.

Aroma is fruit and funk forward. Blueberry and blackberry. Brett and lacto. Wine grapes, oak, and leather.

Taste is dominated by the blueberry. Wine barrel, horse blanket, and leather. Grapes and citrus.

Sharp on the tongue with crisp carbonation. Lingering fruit and funk. Vinuous.

Love the blueberry but it does hide some of the underlying flavors.

Poured from the bottle into a Wicked Weed globe glass. Bottled March 25 2016.

Bright, dark and deep red ruby glowing, particularly when held to the light, with just a shade of pink to lighten it up. Pink one finger head, that's actually a little creamy, but dissolves slowly to only a fine collar and non existent top. Still glows like a big red ruby ball.

Wild funky tones, with herbal qualities and a bit more hints of woody and stripped tree bark sensing on the nose. Not particuarly fruit forward but with an excellent woody and estery punch that salivates the palate. Hints strangely at almost salty character, what is this strange beast? Very curious aroma indeed, hopefully palate lives up to it.

Palate gives some real surprises. Flattened slightly but with a tight fizz hitting in the background. Fruit flavors hit to blueberry slightly but there's more vegetative almost like a golden beet character particularly in the finish. Earthy loaded funk that gives to more of this beet and root vegetable flavor, with a touch of sweet herbs. There's a clove to almost nutmeg lingering finish as well, with a woody almost Christmas spice touch as well. Soft almost rosehip tasting with nice tea herbs also.

What a bizarre but fascinating palate on this brew. Goes places completely unexpected. Does barely hint unfortunately at blueberry but there's so much wild flavors going on that I can't seem to care where the blueberries went.

Nice and clear ruby red beer. Very gorgeous look and absolutely stunning. Resembles a nice red wine hue.

Nice oak note with a very present Brett note. Very light blueberry but still noticeable even underneath the brett. Tart is present but not super strong, just noticeable.

Taste is more towards brett with the oak going through like a stranger in the night. Blueberry is still weak but stronger and takes off the funk and tartness a bit. Brett is still strong but not domineering. He taste isn't balanced but the notes rather connect and complement each other.

Medium body with biting carbonation. Pretty good. Slightly dry finish.

Very good.

500mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 16.99. Bottled 3/25/16. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter.

Pours a vibrant crimson pinkish hue with a little over a finger of pale pink head. The bubbles fade leaving a few wisps across the surface, a modest halo and no lacing.

Smells sour and fruity. Sour berries, wine, moderate barrel funk and some vague earth. Nice.

Taste follows the nose. Softly sour blueberries, pale wine, wet oak and earthy funk. Delicious and incredibly easy to drink.

Medium light body with gently fizzy carbonation. The finish is an interesting mix of lightly sour and slightly funky berries and wine.

Myrtlle is quite the pleasant wild blueberry ale. Yet another release from Wicked Weed that I find myself wishing was priced for more regular enjoyment.
