The bartender is always there for us, our reliable companion who deliberately crafts the perfect cocktail with every dash of bitters and teaspoon of simple syrup. It’s this spirit of precision and passion for the craft that has led to our Old Fashioned Ale. This cocktail-inspired beer is gently aged in fresh bourbon barrels with Montmorency and Black cherries, and finished with fresh orange zest, all painstakingly measured and mixed in the spirit of camaraderie. Muddle your cherries, but not your time.

**Note- there is an existing Old Fashioned by Wicked Weed in their archived beers which despite the matching label in the picture is a 5.75% red ale and definitely not what I drank. So I've taken the liberty of adding 2016 and creating this new listing.

375mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 10.99. Bottled 4/5/16. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter

Pours an opaque deep brown with roughly a finger of manilla hued froth. The head fades to a wispy surface haze and full crown that imparts scattered dots and dashes of lacing.

Smells of bourbon, cherries, caramel, soft orange, brown sugar, oak and some traces of vanilla. Really fine nose here.

The sweet collection of flavors include bourbon, toffee, cherries, orange peel, cooked caramel, wet oak, vanilla and a subtle dose of booze. Utterly delicious and very easy to drink despite the double digit abv.

Medium full feel with fairly mild yet present carbonation. The aftertaste smacks of bourbon soaked cheries and orange peels with a cooked sugar crust.

Wicked Weed's track record with me led me to assume that this would be good but Old Fashioned far surpassed my expectations. Lamenting my decision to only pick up one bottle.

Freshly uncorked, Sherry perfume (molasses, cherries in alcohol, wood).
Poured is charged amber, dark. A red that tends to dark brown.
Quite minimal foam, with very little structure.
In the mouth, for those who know the Old Fashioned cocktail to which it is inspired, the taste is truly reproduced in a clear way: one cannot but think of that cocktail.
Medium / full body, soft, enveloping even if the alcohol content of the whiskey is well hidden both by the play of malts and by the added ingredients.
But in the same way, the taste is very smooth (and enhanced) by the woody notes that round out all the scents that emerge (from the fruity of black cherry, to the candied hint of orange, slightly toasted notes in which notes of maple syrup emerge. and also a hint of licorice) during the drink.
The mortar base, which contributes with delicate toasted and caramelized notes in the background, perfectly supports the interplay of ingredients that occupies the main scene.
Prevailing flavors of Marsala wine (historic Sicilian grape variety), black cherry, candied fruit (orange), spices (cloves, but also slightly peppery notes), licorice note on a slightly toasted base.
Sweet, hot even if the alcohol is very well disguised.
Very complex beer, not a mere transposition of the reference cocktail into beer.
I especially appreciate the balance achieved by trying to avoid thinking about the fact that actually the taste is truly faithful to that of the cocktail and trying to concentrate on the elements that I perceive and that are hidden in the background.
As it reaches room temperature while resting a nice glass, the beer evolves (clearer notes of cherries in alcohol and candied orange are made, but also the malty ones reminiscent of bread crust) without losing balance.

Nice mix of bourbon flavor with finishing tartness of cherries.

Not the best Old Fashioned ale that I've had (that distinction would belong to Anderson Valley's submission of this style) but certainly a very good one. Had on draught at Wicked Week Funkatorium, Asheville, N.C., Nov. 20, 2020.

Dark brown color. Tastes like an old fashioned, recepie was a success. Hops and barrel age come through.
