Date bottled: 7.29.16

Pours copper amber orange color with a dense creamy white foam head. Smells real complex and earthy with wet leaves, barnyard foresty funk, oaky spice, dried fruit, grains and earthy hops. Tastes tart, funky, complex with barnyard horse blanket, wet leaves, dusty forest floor, oak barrel, wine, dried fruit, apricot, some sweet spice, bready malty grains, with earthy aged hops. Feels medium bodied, creamy smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a real nice and complex barrel-aged sour ale.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy peach nectar color, the head reasonably impressive; splashy lacing left all around

Smell: Green apple, white wine grape and a hint of berry, all bathed in acetic tones

Taste: Acetic fruit tones of green apple, white wine grape and a hint of cranberry; with both funk and caramel elements arriving, in the middle; oaky, woodsy and acetically sour, through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Really interesting flavors in this sour; I like what the hint of caramel (like what typically is found in an amber ale) brings to this beer

Dark orange color with off-white head. Aroma is funky with nice farmhouse character and unripe fruits. Taste starts sour, quite dry, rustic, funky but not too yeasty. Medium body and carbonation. Overall it's really nice gueuze style sour ale with balanced funk and sourness.

Pours a semi-hazy right amber and sunburst golden orange with minimal head but tight carbonation.

Vinous, grassy, subtle bretty must, kiwi, and various berries.

Grape/vinous flavor emerges immediately, giving way to a tart raspberry and kiwi flavor, and finishes with a semi-bitter hop bite.

Light-bodied, high carbonation, tart, crisp and tight carbonation, fruity.

Overall, a solid and easy drinking wild ale here.

Thanks Matthew! Hazy bright orange body with a thick white head that leaves lacing cascading down the teku. Aromas include grassy hops, lambic scents (oh my), funk, mineral water. Delicious! What a pleasant surprise. While I expect good things from Wicked Weed, this exceeds expectations. Belgian characteristics in an American wild ale. Superb.

From the 500ml bottle, dated 07/19/16, batch #1199. Served in a tulip.

Pours a heavily hazed copper with a two-finger head of soapy off-white... ecru? ecru foam. The head lasts for a couple of minutes before settling back to a thick coating of scum and a solid sheet of lacing.

Sharp nose of vinegar, raspberries, mildew and damp wood.

Taste is assertively sharp and tangy, with oranges, raspberries, melon and peaches steeped in cider vinegar. After the acidity comes a woody, caramel-creamy smoothness, finishing with a little tangerine-lemon and funky, mildewed carpet off a wet basement floor... which sounds revolting but is really rather interesting and pleasant.

Mouthfeel is light-to-medium, moderately-well carbonated and, somehow, both mouth-puckering and creamy.

If I were actually paid to write reviews you might be entitled to demand that I explain how something can be both mouth-puckering and creamy at the same time but, as it is, screw you. It just is.

Poured from the bottle into a Wicked Weed globe glass. July 29th 2016. Batch #1199.

Mixing peach orange and lemon body color. A bit of glow but also slightly opaque as well. Very creamy forming head, but with little retention and solid white. Manages to land with a big collar though, and thin topped puck.

Very nice subtle aroma. Quite a mix in there. Creamy sensing caramel, a minor bit of funk, lots of floral like tones also. Mild sensing pepper, a bit of little sugary sweetness too. Not quite a lot of distinct flavors, but certainly interesting ones and fun examining.

Palate has a very light tartness and refreshing flavor. Mid palate hits slowly with a simple malt backbone and some mild sensing funk flavors. A sense of tangerine orange really seems to open up after awhile which is nice, particularly on the finish. Palate hints at a bit of creamy character but not quite. Mildy carbonated, and almost hop juiced up as well sensing.

Very unique tasting wild brew, but one that's hard to put my finger upon.

500mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 15.99. Bottled 7/29/16. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter.

Pours a hazy orange gold with a finger and a half pale head. The bubbles crackle away quickly, leaving neither retention nor lace.

Aromas of funky wine barrel, soured grains, sickly sweet spoiled fruit and wet hay.

Tastes potently sour. Lime zest, sour orange pulp, grape skins, funky pale wine barrel, earthy wet hay and some melon rind. I assume that those various fruit notes are from the hops.

Body is on the lighter side of medium with mildly fizzy carbonation. Lingering, sour finish with hints of wine barrel, funky hay and earthy old fruit.

I guess Wicked Weed has figured out what to do with old hops. They seem to work just fine in an "aged hop" wine barrelled wild ale. This was an interesting brew that was worth a try but priced a bit above what I'm comfortable shelling out for any repeat purchase.

Deep gold. Aromas of barnyard there but subdued. First impression are woody aromas. More sour than subtle but the woody, mushroom flavor is present. Mouthfeel is perfect for style. Balances out some of the lemony sour. Very refreshing, flavorful beverage.
