We crafted Hop Cocoa Brown to be a smooth porter that packs a potent chocolate punch into every sip. Authentic Dutch cocoa powder combines with robust, dark cocoa nibs from our neighbors at French Broad Chocolate Lounge to create a silky smooth balance with our heavy handed hopping process. This dark beauty is comforting companion at the end, or beginning, of any day!

Drinking this on NYE at Tapped my favorite tap room in Greenville NC.
Poured from a tap into a Snifter.
Looks, dark brown with a nice foamy tan head that dropped quickly to a thin ring and light lacing.
Smells malty, light coffee and cocoa.
Taste follows the nose nicely with the cocoa building on the palate with each sip.
Mouth feel is medium light for the style.
Overall, not as much cocoa as the brewer describes, a good Porter, that I might order again.

Poured from a can into a snifter glass, giving a finger of head that slowly faded to heavy lacing. Smells like slightly hoppy/bitter malt. Taste is a slightly bitter malt background with hints of chocolate. Not the best chocolate, but definitely not too sweet. Light/medium mouthfeel and moderate/high carbonation. Solid chocolate porter.

5 oz pour on tap. Appearance is dark brown, nearly black, with a small-to-moderate tan head that fades to a thin ring of bubbles. Aroma and flavor are dark roasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate, pine, and citrus. Complex and flavorful. Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly carbonated. Overall very solid.

On tap at Oak and Stone. Pours a coca-cola brown. Clever layering of hops on top of the usual cocoa and roasted males flavors you would expect. I'd order it again.

Date bottled November 7th 2016 so I will be as kind as I can.

Pours black with an inch of off white foam.

The smell has good notes of dark chocolate and cocoa. Some sweetness but mostly bitterness.

Taste really suffers from the aging. Bitter chocolate, whatever is left of the hops comes across as astringent. No sweetness that I mentioned in the smell. Old and tired is how I would describe the whole experience.

Presentation: 12 oz. can with the canning and "enjoy by" dates printed on the bottom. Served in a Samuel Adams pint glass.

Appearance: The thick, two finger head stays around for a very long time and dissolves into a half finger foam layer that stays around until the end. It leaves behind a lot of lacing in rings and sheets that covers the entire glass. It's a deep, dark brown color with some reddish amber hues showing through on the edges.

Smell: It's a very faint, sweet scent of malt, vanilla and milk chocolate.

Taste: It's mostly bitter with some cocoa, roasted malt, earthy hops and a slight hint of coffee. There's also some milk chocolate and malt sweetness in the background.

Mouthfeel: It's medium to heavier bodied and slightly creamy at the begging but it finishes with a crisp, high carbonation bite that keeps it from getting cloying.

Overall: The chocolate notes are there but they're not as pronounced as the rest of the elements on the scent and palate. There's a lot of chances for this beer to get cloying, so it's nice that the crisp texture balances everything out. So even though it feels like a mish-mash of elements at first, everything comes together nicely in the end.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts, smoke, hints of chocolate. Taste is identical to the aroma, light hops are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, it ain't bad, but with cocoa prominent in the title, it seemed little more than an afterthought in this beer. I would liked to have seen more of it.
