5 oz pour into a tasting glass on tap at the Wicked Weed taproom.

L – A sort of greenish-straw color with a little less than a finger of bubbly, white froth. Decent retention with some lacing. Clear with lots of bubbles. I’m guessing the greenish color is from the peppers – it’s pretty interesting looking.

S – Definitely getting some peaches and some peppers. I don’t get as many traditional saison aromas, but the headlining ingredients are present.

T – It starts off with grainy, bready malt and sweet peaches and then a big kick of spice comes in from the habaneros. The great thing about this beer is that you can taste the actual peppers as opposed to only feeling the heat from them like some peppered beers. Once the heat fades, there’s an earthy, peppery, dry yeast finish. Really tasty and interesting.

F – Light-bodied, good carbonation, a crisp and slightly creamy mouthfeel, and a very spicy and dry finish. Heat from the peppers sticks around for a while.

O – This is a really cool and tasty beer. I wasn’t sure how well peaches and habaneros would go together (especially in a beer), but Wicked Weed makes it work. As I said before, there aren’t a lot of saison characteristics because they get overshadowed by the headlining ingredients, but I think a saison is the perfect base beer for a creation like this. Great beer from Wicked Weed.

Headlining with copious additions of both peach and pepper, Wicked Weed's fruity and spicy saison whips the tastebuds into shape first with sweetness and then with the balance of heat- it's a yin-and-yang of flavors that keep the tastebuds guessing until the very last sip.

Casting a golden haze against the glass, the frothy ale carries a light gaze of dough and a tinge of absinthe. Its mid-statured and frothy longevity spills into the nose with grain, peach and honey with a spicy tingle that sears the nose hairs. Its vegetal and fleshy peppery taste resonates through the supple sweetness of baking bread, faint honey and an overall toasted grain savoriness.

Upon the base of rustic malt play out the flavors of green apple, orange, pear and lemon for the estery side of the beer's balance with a countering taste of peppercorn, cumin and clove that command the taste before the arrival of fruit and pepper. Its these flavors that saturate the tastebuds and give the flavor a light jammy orchard-like sweetness and then a robust chipotle-like fleshy char.

Finishing medium but trending dry, the yeasty spices give a refreshing zip the to beer but the modest capsaicin heat dances lightly on the throat. Straw and grassy bitterness provide and old-world charm to the taste while the ale resonates fruity and spicy in a medium-length afterglow. On their next go round, Wicked Weed brewers need to take off the training wheels and let those habanero peppers shine!
