Laughing Sun Brewing Company was started in 2012 by owners Mike Frohlich and Todd Sattler. Our partnership was born out of a monthly poker game and a conversation in the dark parking lot outside the Corral Bar during a break from the live music inside. After a long search for the right location, we signed a lease in May, 2012 for space in the historic Laskin Building in downtown Bismarck, North Dakota. Over the next six months, with the help of family (in particular Mike’s Dad, Dan Frohlich), friends, and the community, we built the brewhouse and pub literally from the ground up.

With all of the construction, commission meetings and licensing finally behind us, we were ready to do what we’ve wanted to do for a long time: make the best beer possible at a place where everyone can enjoy it.

But the ability and desire to make great beer means little to us without people to share it. Our mission with the pub is to have a place where the local community can feel welcome and involved. Our walls feature the work of local artists. Our stage is open to local musicians, poets, writers, and thinkers with original compositions and ideas. We know that involvement is inevitable with the kind of interaction that good art demands. We want a place for this. And so we invite you to come to downtown Bismarck, visit us, and see what can happen.

Good clean beer bar serving their beers. Knowledgeable and eager staff. Both gentlemen knew the vibe in the brewery and around town. Decent prices. Quick Service. I would go back if I lived closer.

(#3 of 49) We stopped here on a rainy afternoon when the pub was not busy. This brewery is has a small storefront setting among other retail businesses. The brewing equipment is visible through the front window of the adjacent storefront. A garage door inside the pub area opens to a small patio that is blocked-off on the front sidewalk. The interior of the pub is narrow and deep. Several TVs are available for watching sports.

There are 16 taps, but only 6 beers were available plus two soft drinks (brewed here?). We ordered a sampler flight of all six of them. All were brewed well to style, and a couple of them went well beyond style. The notables were the Sinister Pear Belgian Golden Strong Ale and the White IPA. The Dropping Cones DIPA hops weren't to our liking, and the Java Black Ale was very light on the coffee taste, but we still felt that both were good beers. Overall we rated the beers at a B- garde.

There are some packaged snacks available, and the place is food friendly (we noticed a pizza parlor two doors down). Nice place, good beer, and worthy of a return visit.

Dropped in here on a cross country trip. Getting a parking space was a bit of a bitch but at least no god damned parking meters. The atmosphere was amiable and the 2 server guys were pleasant and attentive. Had the Sultan IPA which was pretty good. Not sure what the fat tulip glass held but I'm sure it wasn't more than 14 oz with a head. $5.50 tax included.
Food was a WHOLE pizza from next door. They have small bags of snack chips though.
This place isn't a destination but if you're thirsty and nearby...
Oh, I'm leery of anyplace that has brown ale in the lineup, and even more uncomfortable if it's one of their core beers and it's selling well while I'm there.

As I was making my way across the continent, going through North Dakota, I had to stop here to tick the state of North Dakota.
Anyways, here's my take on this place.
The atmosphere was nice and clean with the beer bartenders knowing the brewery's beers and were extremely eager to serve folk. Quick service. Both bartenders also told me where I could get bottled beers as well around town, that helped. I'd go back if I lived closer.

Nice place. They have a small sitting area in front of the place which is nice on a warm summer evening. The service was fantastic and the beers were tasty. Went on a Saturday evening and it wasn't packed even though there was a band playing. Overall, a very nice place to relax if you are in Bismarck North Dakota.

5 words for 5 stars. "Feast Like A Sultan IPA". Welcoming. Friendly. Knowledgable. Smaller but who cares? You got a great beer in front of you..

Visiting Bismarck and stumbled upon this little gem in downtown core. A small brewpub with its brewing room right next to the pub and the beautiful copper brew kettle in full view. A nice quaint pub where we were greeted by knowledgable staff (infact I think the brewer was serving us for awhile). I had their IPA which was fantastic and well presented in a goblet style glass with their Laughing Sun logo on it. We ordered food off the menu of the wood fired pizza place right next door. It arrived at our seats minutes later and was tremendous. Left before the live music started but was a very enjoyable experience but best of all the beer was I took home...a growler of the Sultan IPA. Hope to try their Imp IPA sometime.
