The NYC cheese institution for generations. Take care of all your cheese, bread, charcuterie, olives, cheese books, and cheese accessory needs. This is the place in town IMHO to buy, enjoy, learn about and pair cheese with beer and other foods. Great place to put together a picnic lunch for further NYC beer research. Beer selection is eclectic and boasting a respectable range of the usuals as well as affording the opportunity to experiment with some lesser know options. Prices are a wee bit high even for the neighborhood...hey, it's a boutique...worth a visit to pay your respects and its only about one block down Bleeker from another NYC must visit.. the Blind Tiger

Nice and clean, with an almost gimmicky emphasis on branding. The place looks as if Starbucks decided to set up a beer and cheese shop.

Well organized--not a bottle out of place. Which isn't a huge feat, as the selection is small, yet handpicked with much thought. You will find many gems here, and the staff, while hardly cicerones, are quite knowledgeable. At least the ones hanging out by the beer shelves and cooler, that is. Ask someone over by the cheese or at the register if they have any Biere de Garde and they're like, "Biere de wha?"

Caters to the Greenwich Village crowd that doesn't know much about beer but wants to impress their friends. Beers are categorized by flavor profile, with columns for "Fruity" and "Rich and Roasty" beer for example. Works well for those who want to pair beer with cheese. Thankfully, the beers are categorized by style as well (my preference).

Apparently, they have free tastings each week and they hold beer and cheese pairing classes.

Beers are pricey here, but they have quite a bit of overhead to pay for.

You wouldn't expect to find such a good selection of craft beer at a cheese shop, but Murray's does it. Here at their flagship cheese emporium on Bleecker they stock a sizable amount of brews, including hard-to-find releases from Firestone, craft beer from Spain (Nomada En El Bosque), Mikkeller 1000 IBU's and Beer Geek Breakfast, Leelanau, Dark Element and other obscure names.

In the cooler, chilled packs of Weyerbacher Double Simcoe, Evil Twin Lil B and Founders Porter among others.

Prices are HIGH: Double Simcoe is $14.99, and those Firestone releases are $24.99, but if you've got the bucks, hey why not.

Service is nice and friendly at the registers, but I don't think they have a beer guy here to help you out with your selection...

Buy some cheese with your beer, you can't go wrong with Murray's!
