12oz. bottle served in a standard pint. March 2013 indicated on the bottle.Pours a semi-translucent orange-gold with a fizzy, half inch, white head that quickly dissipates into a soapy skim; no lacing. Nose expresses corn adjuncts, a hint of sweetness and a light, skunky/sour mash quality. Taste consistent with nose - malt profile is almost non-existent. There's a slight grassiness to this, as well as some earthy hoppiness, eventually yielding to the skunky/sour mash character towards the back. Mouthfeel is light in body, with an assertive carbonation and a semi-crisp finish. Overall, a pretty solid American Adjunct Lager. I had this on-tap a few months back and thought it was quite tasty (didn't realize it was a Coors product). That said, given the bottle dating, I feel like this beer went a little downhill. As such, I may need to update this review with a fresher bottle.

A: pours a crystal clear bronze to gold with a nice off white two finger head.
S: nothing jumps out as its fairly muted. Slight floral notes accompanied by bready aroma. Nothing spectacular.
T: Pleasant surprise. Starts out with some tasty bready malts, slighty sweet. Toward the back, it blends nicely with some bitter flavors that I can't quite place..not floral not citrus, but tasty.
M: medium bodied and a brilliant creaminess. Has a bit of a crispness to it and finishes dry with a slighty bitter but flavorful after taste.
O: call a spade a spade...its coors, but its tasty. I like the story and mystiq that comes along with this brew, but most of all, its just a good beer. Perhaps a brew to introduce other to the world of craft. Highly sessionable. Tip of the hat to Coors.

One of the more impressive AALs and even more impressive it comes from Coors. Pours a clear, pale amber color with just over one finger of head that had good retention. Surprisingly heavy amount of lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of sweet malt and hay/grass- like hop qualities. Nice clean flavor that is just a little too sweet for me. The hops are a little more assertive than todays AALs, but it is not enough to balance the sweetness. The hops give some grassy flavor. Good body and carbonation. Enjoyable lighter beer texture with lively carbonation. Nice that Coors is branching out a bit and offering an interesting lager. Maybe not enough to warrant another purchase from me, but should appeal to other pale lager drinkers.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 6/10/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a lot of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of pear, apple, lemon, floral, grass, bready grain, cracker, light pepper, and yeast esters. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and yeast esters; decent strength. Taste of lemon, apple, pear, floral, grass, bread, light pepper, cracker, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, floral, grass, bread, cracker, and earthiness on the finish for a bit. Pleasant flavors with good balance of malt and hop flavors; with no cloying flavors present after the finish. Slight grainy astringency, but not bad. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a good pale lager. Good malt/hop flavor balance; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

A: 1.5 finger head with some lace. Clear light amber color.

S: light caramel malt on the nose.

T: malt and bread up front. Finishes with a apple/coriander sweetness.

M: moderate to high carbonation.

Overall: This wasn;t a bad beer. I enjoyed it at the brewery in Golden. Drinkable and smooth.

Appearance: Pours out a lightly hazed, honey-hued body with nearly two fingers worth of rich foam that fades but never disappears.

Smell: Honey accents ahead of the pale maltiness trailed by notes of leafy green, citrusy, spicy hops.

Taste: Honey-brushed maltiness with a thin hint of lightly toasted grain. Moderately sweet throughout. Lemony, leafy, herbal hops with ample bitterness to balance it out, or so I thought, as the sweetness makes a last-minute rebound before the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: It'll do in a pinch!

Odd shaped twist off bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours out a deep golden to copper color with 2 fingers worth of white head off the pour that fades to a retentive ring. Pretty good lacing. Good clarity, but not really that crystal clear body you usually find in an adjunct lager. Maybe the best adjunct lager I've ever seen as far as looks go.

Clean, mineral water lager yeast, and hints of sweet grain. Maybe a slight hint of toasted grain.

Clean and a fairly good flavor for an adjunct lager. Sweet, lightly toasted grains, mineral lager yeast, and just enough of a faint hop to call this balanced.

Light bodied, but not at all watery like every other adjunct lager I've had. Same goes for the carbonation.

Very drinkable, quenches the thirst on a hot day. Definatly one of the better adjunct lagers I've had, but that's still not saying much. Would I buy it again, NO.

12 oz twist-top bottle poured into a nonic.
5.5% ABV, NOV2811 printed on the neck. "Banned, definantly bold beer.", "Back, from the lost archives."

A - Golden yellow and crystal clear, Batch 19 is crowned by a tall, dense, and well-retained off-white head. Thick collars of lace remain clinging to the glass. A good start!

S - For the style, there's quite a healthy dose of lemon citrus hop character. Surprising to say the least. Toast and faint caramel character adds a good backbone while it finishes out with a little yeast mustiness.

T - Grainy pale malt and soft pilsner sweetness underline the earthy citrus American hop profile. Dry leaf and lemon citrus accents this one.

M - Batch 19 has a light body with a crisp, clean lager finish despite some of it's ale characteristics. Spritzy carbonation and a smooth body with a soft, dry bitterness on the finish.

O - Not too shabby, Batch 19's throw-back attitude and pre-prohibiton bandwagon-jumping are a bit gimmicky, but it's a drinkable brew. Not overly hoppy, but surprisingly so coming from the big guys. Good balance and nice finish.

Pretty darn good for an AAL. It plays Goldilocks very well. A tad sweet, but not too sweet. A little hops, but no burn.
It is what it is. (don't you hate it when people say that?). This is a big step forward for Coors, but I'd still like to see something with a better right hook.
P.S. Get this where you can build your own six pack because it's laughably expensive on it's own.

Batch 19 is deep gold, with a fizzy off-white head that slowly falls to a patchwork film. A smattering of lace is left behind.

So this is what pre-Prohibition American beer was supposedly like? Not bad. 19 has a solid straw and dry grain backbone that's bolstered by a mild, yet balancing pepper bitterness. A very light honey sweetness sits in the background. The medium-light body has some substance to it and is rather dry. The carbonation feels about right. The beer finishes with lingering pepper and dry grain flavors.

Overall, Batch 19 is a nice little beer in a Schlitz Gusto sort of way. Although I doubt Coors will ever veer away from their more vapid staples, Batch 19 shows that they really can produce a decent beer.

Beer poured a golden amber/honey color with great clarity and a one-finger mostly white head. The smell is pretty faint. Little malts, little hops, little sours. The taste is solid and well-balanced, a nice blend. Malts and tarts up front and moderate hops and bitterness at the end that linger. The mouthfeel is light/medium with a creamy body. All in all, I enjoyed it. Maybe a little too much. It's neither too heavy, nor too light or watered down. I'd call it a solid session alternative to standard macros. If you're looking to get a buddy away from his Bud Light, Coors Light trend, maybe start him here.

Pours to a rich white head and minimal lacing. Gold/amber color. Aroma is grass, earthy hops and sweet grains, some DMS. Flavor is sweet, corny, slightly malt and not quite balanced by the hops. Mouthfeel is not bad. On the intangibles, this beer works pretty well. The hop flavors are approaching APA levels and the flavors are strong, although it could stand to be a bit drier and less chewy for a lager that is not a bock or Marzen.

Had this at Dillinger's in Chicago - a bar a few feet from the historic Biography Theatre, the place where John Dillinger was shot. The Blackhawks were playing the Dallas Stars, while DePaul college hipsters were engaged in a game of bar trivia.

It had clear deep gold color with a foamy white head.

S: Unlike many mass produced lagers, which can have metallic corn like smells, this one had a more refined aroma.

T: It was a little different from the normal macro lagers. The hops had more of a presence. I had a slight pale taste that was on the dry side. There was a corn/graininess to the flavor but it was not offensive.

Overall: this had a clean taste, basically it had a refined adjunct lager quality. I wouldn't go looking for this but I am glad I tried it.
I can say this, I would prefer this over many other adjunct lagers. This is one of the better tasting examples of the style.

Poured a honey golden clear color with two fingers of frothy white head. Some noticeable bubbles coming up from the bottom. Sporadic foamy spots of good lacing on the sides all the way down. Good retention on the top as well.

Smelled caramel, honey, Cheerios, corn, sourdough bread and grass. Much better though than the average AAL.

Tasted a lot like the smell. Got corn, wheat grass, honey, caramel, metal, cereal, toast and sourdough bread. Not quite as good as the smell, but still pretty good.

Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish.

I have to say, for the style, this beer was much better than I thought it was going to be. Definitely a good alternative to the Bud, Miller Lite, etc.

Macro swill disguised as craft or something more? Let's give it a whirl.

A: Fairly aggressive pour. Faint orange/copper hue. Excellent clarity. Vigorous carbonation. Two fingers cappuccino foam colored head. Moderate dissipation. Moderate lacing. Intrigued by the color.

S: Ah. Adjunct. Or at least some adjunct smells. Faint hop presence, almost like cooked veggies. Not quite to the level of Euro Pales, but in a similar vein. Nice caramel malts, touch of honey, bit of corn husk, slightly metallic.

T: Nice bit of malty sweetness up front, with a nice, dry hoppiness that cuts through. Again, borderline vegetal, but the hops are very present here. Reminds me of the pre-Gusto Shclitz. Corn flakes/dough in the finish.

M: A little softer in the palate than pretty much any AAL I've ever had. The carbonation isn't so bracing or seltzer like.

O: A hoppier and fuller bodied AAL? Unfortunately, this falls in the same price range as Sierra Nevada beers where I live, so I'll probably never buy it again. Make it as cheap as regular Coors and I've got a new go to. A much better swing towards quality than Shocktop or the like.

On-tap at The Boulevard, on to the beer:

Looks like the color of brass with a tint of amber. Head retention is fair, the lacing good. The nose is relatively soft, but does offer a few perks of aromas. There are quick bursts of piney and citrus juice notes, and a soft fruity background. The taste offers less of the fruit and a lot more breadiness. Slightly sweet tasting, with a kiss of hops. A twang of fruit breaks the mold, ye the beer remains balanced. It's a light medium bodied beer with a pleasant crispness, helping make Batch 19 refreshing.

Approachable American lager that's easy to drink. And coming from Coors, which is noteworthy, as I was told that Batch 19 was the name of the brewery, not a beer made by Coors.

Batch 19 has a deep golden colour and considerable haze - quite a departure from standard Coors, and indeed most commercial, brands. We're off to a promising start. Despite the lack of transparency there is still some degree of clarity, no sediment and a good amount of glow. There's also - and this could be a first for Coors - a healthy amount of head.

It can be tricky to define the word 'authentic' but for the purposes of beer I think, at its most basic, it describes a liquid that tastes and smells of malt, yeast and hops. This definition would rule out most mass-produced lagers. Shocking, I know. But Batch 19 has a wonderfully rough, raw graininess and subtle hop pungency that embodies truly authentic beer. It is instantly recognized as something pure and of good quality.

The flavour, likewise, has a cereal maltiness and light floral, near fruity overtones. It is a wonderful tasting lager. A bready sweetness prevails despite a grassy finish. Whether the grainy malt or herbal bitterness, all flavours can be traced back to wholesome Mother Earth (and not some chemical factory off a Jersey turnpike). The benefit to leaving out corn syrup and other adjuncts cannot be overemphasized.

I would have thought drinking a pre-prohibition lager brewed by Coors would have been like watching Kill Bill on TBS: a version so sterilized and adulterated that it retained very little of the product's true essence. But I'm happy to be wrong. This drinks splendidly. They haven't compromised the malts and, perhaps to their own chagrin, actually splurged on some (wonderfully floral, earthy) hops. I'd stock it by the case.

Prohibition did a lot to ruin beer but it was also beneficial to a select few breweries. I won't delve into the history here but, sufficed to say, Batch 19 is a welcome start to reparations from Coors. It harkens back to a time when brewers didn't use fouling, adulterating adjuncts. I doubt this offering will change the culture of commercial lagers, but hopefully it will change the tastes of at least some commercial lager drinkers.

Trying the Batch 19 at the UGS Lounge at Dulles Airport...The beer poured a nice clear copper with thin white head that is not leaving a lace. The scent carries bready malt with hint of bittering hops. The taste is very nice and smooth...there is a definite malt which provides a biscuit punch then finishes clean with slight bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbontation. Overall this is a solid lager and was worth the try and the bottle is pretty unique as well.

Poured aggresively from bottle creates a foamy head that goes down slowly atop an amber beer. No lacing. Few streams of carbonation. Fruity aroma, probably from hops. Great moderate mouthfeel with good, but not overbearingly sweat or bready coating on the tongue. Taste is fruity with a citrusy IPA bitterness. Finish is dry with lingering hops. A balanced beer. Overall, a surprisingly satisfying offering from Coors.

At first glance the box and bottles are very appealing. The "Pre-Prohibition" definitely sold me.

The beer itself is Good, not great, but definitely good. Taste is solid with a small but noticeable aftertaste that stays in the mouth for a minute. When poured into a glass the color is a nice golden amber, leaving a small brim that continues to stay as you drink.

Overall It's a good beer, I would recommend it to others who have not tried it and possibly will get it again! Thumbs up!

Look: A slight amount of sediment on the bottom of bottle, could be cold break, very clear, golden color with a slight amber hint to it. Not a very strong head, and faded away quickly. Looks about a 4 SRM.

Smell: initial malt, slight corn, very low hops,

Taste: stronger malt than a normal light american lager, balanced nicely with light bitterness. slight corn profile on the back of the tongue enhanced by the carbonation's acidity.

Feel: slight creaminess through out tongue, and carbonation is well balanced. initially slick and then very dry.

Overall: definitively better than their normal lager, and falls well into the light american lager profile with slightly more malt. Overall not a bad beer. I'd use it to convert friends from crap beer to craft.

20oz on tap for $3 at Sugarbush Tavern in Chesterfield Twp., Michigan.

Appearance: Came a pretty nice brownish color with a decent head. There was minimal lacing, and there was virtually none by the time I hit the bottom.

Smell: A corny, malty, adjunct smell, but MUCH better than what I'm used to from the style.

Taste/feel: Well above anything else I've had from the style. There's some of that adjunct in the flavor, but the malt is much more pleasant than what I'm used to. The feel is also nice, as it's smooth and easy drinking. At 5.5% ABV and without any offensive flavors or smells, this is a VERY good choice if you have the option ... especially for the price. Far and away the best of the style.

Batch 19 is good, not great. I was expecting more from this "pre-prohibition" beer. It's a step above Coors Light for sure, but it's not as remarkable as the label would have you believe. I was expecting a higher ABV content as well. Overall, it's a good beer, but it's not noteworthy enough where I need to have it again.

Is this really an adjunct, or is this an American Pale Lager? If it's truly made with adjunct grains, then it's the best adjunct I've ever had by far.

I feel like people are giving this poor reviews just because it's Coors. This is a really good beer. Not quite Full Sail Session, but damn close.

COORS : batch 19

Pre-prohibition Style Lager

LOOK: Pours a bright gold color with a chill haze. Frothy white head forms and leaves plenty of lacework on the pint glass. Good retention, but hazy for the style. Most if not all of pre-prohibition lagers were unfiltered, so at least this is historically forgivable.

SMELL: Ultra clean grain, menthol like hops smell that is medicinal and even soothing to the nostril. A bit of corn on the back end.

TASTE: Clean grainy malt flavor, mild leafy hops and a minute bitterness. A touch of earth and faint pine. Even getting a bit of wheat from this, but it could be the corn and possible rice playing tricks on me. It is one of the cleaner examples of this style I've had to date.

FEEL: Light to light-medium bodied brew, a bit of thickness to it for an American adjunct lager.

OVERALL: A stylistically exceptional lager that is very clean and well defined. Super refreshing, Coors should replace all of their standard products with this, most of their customers wouldn't notice the difference, but BeerAdvocates certainly would.
