Deep brown with some crimson to the edge of it. Tan head 1/5". Aroma was dark fruit, booze, brown malt, and some sweet/cinnamon like contribution.

Taste again, dark fruit, alcohol. Equal parts winter warmer and dubbel. More dark fruit sweetness than the usual bitterness. The malt is sturdy, but not overly roasted. Dark bread notes. Red and brown malt. Eh.

This beer has a best before date of Apr 30/12.....should be interesting hehe....

A- This pours with a yeasty, off white colored head that quickly dissipates. The coloring of the beer itself is a nice brown/toffee color and is cloudy for the most part....it is much too heavy to tell what is happening with the carbonation....the lacing is quite nice with plenty of small foam circles clinging to the side of the glass! Above average overall!

S- Toffee/caramel/rum cake is the initial aroma smelled, with lots of dark dried fruit behind it. Dates, figs, plums, black raisins and heavy blackstrap molasses in terms of sweetness. There also seems to be a smoked character in the nostrils that is of wood barrel. This is deep and rich...well balanced and syrupy aromas!

T- Flavors follow the aromas well, with a heavy concentration on the robust molassess/toffee/caramel aspect..there are hints of gently brewed coffee, dates/figs/plum/raisin, mellow milk chocolate, and again, of rumcake, but it is much more muted and balanced on the palate! The finish lingers and is somewhat syrupy leading into the next taste.

M/O- Syrupy smooth and with a mellow carbonation....this also has a rounded medium body...the Belgian sugar really brings out a candied dessert like character in this one. Good with a bar of chocolate, or perhaps some tart peach or apple pie, I highly recommend aging this and giving it a go if you didn't like it the first time around....it truly develops in the bottle well!
