Blue Moon Brewing Co. "Summer Honey Wheat"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, coded "AUG1417" and sampled on APR2517
$1.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Look: Nearly fingerprint clear golden body beneath a frothy-then-creamy head of bright white. Oddly for a wheat beer the head retention and lacing are just average.

Smell: Clean and fresh. I'm not sure if it's honey I'm smelling, but I think it is - it's sweetish and fruity with some sweetish golden malt as well. Some mild floral hops round it out.

Taste: As the aroma suggests, sweetish golden malt is accentuated by a note of honey and threaded through with mild yeasty fruitiness that mainly expresses apple and floral hops. I thought it might be more wheat-like but it's not. A mild bitterness balances it, and although it's sweetish in the mouth it still manages to finish fairly dry.

Feel: Medium-light in body and crisp.

Overall: A very nicely balanced and polished honey beer that's both refreshing and easy to drink.

Light, clear gold color with white cap.

Clean scent of light malt with a touch of floral hops.

Taste is mildly medium rounded and rather nice. Malt/grain on entry with hops sliding into third but it's the honey touch that lingers in the aftertaste that is the lasting memory.

Light to medium texture with balancing carbonation.

This isn't a wow beer but it's certainly presentable in company. It's generally perceived by consumers to be above average yet isn't challenging to the point of being an acquired taste. A soccer mom beer.

On the neck of the bottle: "SEP0417 601200411"

Appearance: It is a medium-dark shade of gold with lots of visible carbonation rising to a short white creamy textured head. It has good retention but the head is pretty short for a wheat ale. The beer has much more clarity than the standard wheat beer.

Aroma: There is a light sour tinge that often comes from wheat. There is also a very faint cereal grain scent.

Taste: There is a light sweet honey taste to the beer and a bit of what reminds me of Ritz Crackers; possibly a light buttery taste. There is a very faint taste of hops at the back of the beer.

Mouthfeel: It is a very easy beer to drink with a rather sweet and light bodied finish.

Overall: If you are into beers that are very light and a touch sweet then you might be interested in this beer as a "quick pick." Although it advertises itself as a beer "crafted with wheat & clover honey" it shelves all of the unique qualities in these ingredients in favor for something lighter and less memorable. It's a decent enough beer to pick up if there isn't much of a choice available but it's not likely to make an impression on anyone.

On a side note the beer tasted a lot more like the flavor you get from honey malt rather than actual fermented honey.

Pours a pale yellow with plenty of crisp white head. Plenty of carbonation as well. Even though its a wheat beer, its actually not hazy. Smell is more pilsner like. Initial taste is more pilsner like as well but also sweet and crisp. Definitely a good summer time brew, will probably enjoy more

For beer snobs this'll never be good because who makes it but it's a really good beer like it's father Blue Moon Belgian White. Pours the golden color you expect with the thin white head. Has a sweet smell and great flavor that is easy to drink with no aftertaste.

It pours a orange with a small head that leaves quickly. Smell is bready and taste is light almost nonexistent. Mouthful isl lite and watery. Overall just an average beer but very easy to drink.

Twist cap 12 ounce bottle poured to glass
pale light amber liquid, big white foam dissipates quickly but lingers, hazy
Nose: not a lot, aroma of cinnamon
low bitterness tart
lively carbonation
Good beer, ok to repeat but not look for BA RB

Pours orange with a slight off white head.

Smell is kind of skunky? Some mild wheat, yeast, and floral hops. Not what I'd expect for a pale wheat ale.

Taste is very wheaty, sweet with a touch of honey. Some floral hops are noted on the back end. It not nearly enough for a pale ale. It's pretty blah but that gives it general appeal and drinkability.

Feel is fine, light crisp and drinkable. Medium carbonation.

Overall is a fine drinking beer. Nothing special. It's not bad it just isn't good either.

A rather simplistic take on a wheat-plus-honey beer. Beer is straw yellow, perhaps with a brozny tinge, and surprisingly clear. Head is white, decays rather quickly, and leaves minimal lacing. Nose is malty and simple. Taste is like a very basic light ale with the added sweetness of honey that hits especially on the back side of the flavor profile. Minimal hops presence. Mouthfeel also minimal, just a slight slickness. Nothing offensive, really, but I've had a couple of other beers made with honey recently and they both had more complexity, more yeast presence, and the honey was more nicely blended than in this beer. Drink-by date was in November, so it should be relatively fresh.

Served from the twisty 12 ounce bottle into a chalice. The head is thin, settling down to a crescent around part of the glass rim, but the carbonation is fairly lively. The beer is clear, and of a pale ruddy golden color.

A good bit of tartness is perceived on the nose, along with a noticeable mead-like aroma. The flavor is a bit bland- the tartness on the nose doesn’t extend to the tongue. A bit of DMS is detectable and maybe just a little honey, although it is noticeably sweet. No spice, no hop flavors to speak of. It also has a thin mouth feel for a wheat beer.

This beer is certainly drinkable, especially on a warm day, but lacks distinction overall. The desirable qualities of a wheat beer are largely absent. Purchased as part of a variety 12 pack for $13+.

Light, sweet and wheaty. Borderline flavorless. Still, not bad for a summer sipper. Serve ice cold, drink a ton of it and forget you're drinking Blue Moon, only if offered to you.

First things first...this is my first. I have no experience with alcohol other than what I've tried, so his is the first I've genuinely tasted. The first thing to note is that it has a nice golden color which is very appealing, but that's about all that's good about it. Smell wise, it smells just like stale bread, nothing really appealing about the smell...but I bet it could be worse. Taste is the biggest disappointment, but I can see some appeal. It tastes just like Kombatcha tea except there's a lesser alcohol taste to this than the tea, the tea tastes like stale bread so this not only smells of stale bread but tastes of it too which isn't appealing. I can, however, see the appeal if you enjoy wheat ales...I am not one of those people apparently. Feel is pretty good though, it's quite smooth and the bubbles make the tongue tingle a bit which is nice...nothing offensive here. Overall it's not amazing, but it's not bad. I think this one is an acquired taste.

A - Clear golden with small white head that fades fairly quick. Leaves some lacing.
S - Bread smells mostly with a touch of honey.
T - That wheat taste is there mostly then is backed up by sweet notes which must be the orange and honey although they're not very obvious.
M - Smooth feel with a light to moderate body with low carbonation. Goes down easy.
O - Tastes good and is real easy to drink. Flavours probably lend themselves to a summer beer but it still tastes great.

12 oz 2015 bottle in pint glass.

A: golden straw color with a very good white head with fairly high duration. Sheets of lacing upon tipping the glass. Plenty of visible carbonation.

A lightly sweet, mild flavored, and light bodied beer. Intended to be served cold on hot days, this beer holds up better than some other summer beers to warming. Some malt and wheat flavor lingers into the finish along with a modicum of light orange flavor. Surprisingly floral aroma.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 11/23/2015. Pours lightly hazy golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, honey, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aroma with good balance of pale malt, honey/orange peel, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon orange peel, pear, apple, honey, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, honey, wheat, cracker, biscuit, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance and robustness of pale malt, honey/orange peel, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fair amount of dryness after the finish as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good Pale wheat ale style. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt, honey/orange peel, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Clear golden amber with fine, bright white head of weaker retention. Forms a decent and lasting film on the liquid surface at least. Lots of flecks and chunks, yellowish tan in color, which tend to congregate at the bottom, but still many in suspension. Smells estery, leaning towards lemons, perhaps a touch of honey. Strong extra virgin olive oil note, I'm assuming some sort of phenol. I really wanted to prove the naysayers wrong here, but the flavor is just not that great. Not nasty, of course, but really not much worth mentioning. But I'll give it the old high-school drop out try! Too sweet! Yes, there's honey, real honey even. But where is the wheat? The malt? Certainly no hops or spices or yeast character to speak of. Ranting aside, it is drinkable. About like a Dos Equis Lager Especial or a Rolling Rock, only sweeter! I will admit that there is orange peel or whatever it's supposed to be barely coming through in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel was a little less of a disappointment. Light, watery, and spritzy, arguably making the sweetness more tolerable. But this is a wheat beer, not a Mellow Yellow! Anyways, cheers! It's refreshing, and I'll drink it again if my options are limited.

Not as bad as all the other reviewers make it out to be and surprised me with its 5.2% ABV! I picked it up 12 pack for 8 bucks and it was well worth it!

Really disappointed in this brew. Slight honey smell, faint honey richness on a sip that lingers for a bit. Sweetness immediately present on first sip. Mouthfeel comparable to an adjunct lager but with honey, and with less carbonation.

Overall, a sad offering from Blue Moon. Travesty even calling itself a wheat beer, as it demonstrates almost no wheat beer attributes. Only positive thing I can say about it is that its sweetness makes it approachable to non craft beer drinkers.

What can you say. It tastes like a slightly different version of the standard Blue Moon. It's just ok but a good BBQ beer when no craft beer choices.

I'm not here to give a usual novel sized review as I typically do. Let's just call this beer what it rally is. An adjunct lager with a touch of honey and citrus. Well balanced, and devoid of off putting flavors.

A true everypersons beer.

Part of a summer seasonal 12 pack, poured in to a schooner.

Pours a bright yellow/gold color, clear, with a frothy white head. Torrents of bubbles rising in the glass.

Something about the smell is not real good. Kind of a funky sweet aroma.

Taste is also not quite there, A bitter sweet flavor up front with kind of a cider-like finish.

Mouthfeel is light and clean, with a dry bitter aftertaste.

Overall a questionable brew. Not something I would have again.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Wiezen glass

Look: clear golden with a white foam. Head only lasted a few seconds ( may have been how I poured it)

Smell: subtle hints of bread and honey

Taste: wheat/ grassy flavor. Did not taste the honey or citrus (may be that I have not learned to pick out all the flavor a yet). Flavor did linger for a few seconds after swallow.

Feel: mild and smooth with a slight carbonation. Felt it I the mouth and throat after swallowing for a bit.

Overall: I enjoyed the beer as a nice drinking beer. Possibly one I could eat food with as the taste is not overpowering.
