Another Coors product! This one's about 2 months out of date and I only paid a dollar for it.

Serving Style : bottle poured into glass

Appearance (4.25) : Pours a generous three finger head that's tightly knit at the base and breaks up a bit towards the top. Larger and smaller bubbles congregate and leave some licks AND rings of lacing behind. The body is deep dark brown, almost black, with no transparency. (Head retention is great with a steady froth throughout the review).

Smell (4) : Aromas of mocha and coffee, with coffee bean and some chocolate milk. Faint grain. The bouquet is medium strength.

Taste (3.25) : Strong coffee notes...smoked, dark roast coffee and bean, firewood char and smoke, a hint of nut - acorn or walnut. The finish is smokey and tastes of roasted hot coffee. Char is also left lingering well after the finish. A very kilned flavor.

Mouthfeel (3.5) : A bit too light bodied for the style. I'm surprised at how watery this brew is. The finish is smokey and dry.

Overall (3.47) : If you like smoke and kilned beers, and you're watching your wallet, this is your ticket. It's definitely not the best stout I've tried but it isn't half bad. I'm not sure I would buy it again as there's lots of other stouts out there that do the job better than this. But for a macro brewery to put out something like this is fairly impressive. Good job, Coors.

!2oz bottle, poured into a nonic glass.
Deep dark color, nearly black (unless held up to strong light, where deep ruby hues show through).
Pours with a respectable and surprisingly lasting slightly off white head.
Less dry as compared to Guinness; more body than Guinness Draft, slightly less body than standard Guinness Extra.
Very nice roasty character, and excellent overall balance.
This one's a nice reminder that the folks at Miller-Coors are certainly capable and skilled at their craft and can make beer with character when they want to.
They also proved it when they first marketed Killian's Red back in the 1980s (when they made and marketed it as an ale...and it tasted like one too. Unfortunately, they've since dumbed it down considerably).
Killian's Stout is quite good and worth trying. Hurry before they dumb this one down too (or discontinue it altogether).
It's actually better and truer to traditional stout than a number of craft stouts I've tried recently.
