Serving: Bottle, from the bottle
Served: 23 July 2014

Appearance: Had this one from the bottle, so I can't comment much beyond the fact that the bottle art is pretty bad.

Smell: Smells like darker, toffee malts with a hint of spicy hops and earthiness.

Taste: Unfortunately the earthiness seems to be the predominant flavor in this beer, which I attribute to a poor grain bill. The beer is darker (meaning malt-forward) but the malts flavors I would expect - nuttiness, whole-wheat bread, light toffee- are not anywhere to be found.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, decent depth.

Overall: Worse than the regular Blue Moon (which I actually don't stick my nose up at) because of the weird, astringent earthiness. Would not recommend.

Poured from a bottle, drank from a pint glass.

Appearance: Pretty medium to dark amber colour, with an appetizing orange/red. Head is not super thick, and dissipates quicker than I would have hoped. Little visible carbonation

Smell: Sugary malts and hops abound. A slight sour characteristic, definitely in a good way. Slightly toasty, biscuity Vienna malt. Some subtle fruity esters, but mostly sweet hops.

Taste: The sweet but slightly toasty Vienna malt is quite apparent here, and is balanced by some bittering hops. Pretty basic considering what this style can be, so it loses points here. Still tasty overall though.

Mouthfeel: Leaves a sweet, almost cloyingly malty aftertaste, which isn't the best. About the right level of carbonation (low to moderate). No booziness.

Overall: Nothing to write home about, but if it was between this and domestic American adjunct lagers, I would take this every time with a grin on my face. Its pretty light, easy to drink, and doesn't really offend. Unfortunately it doesn't impress or stand out either, so I wouldn't seek this out.

Blue Moon should keep to what it does well, Blue Moon. This was weird and not really very interesting. Just tastes stale and bland.
