16oz pint on tap at Brocach's on Monroe Street in Madison, Wisconsin. This is contract brewed for Brocach by Karben4 in Madison.
A- Slightly hazy light copper/straw body with a nice one finger white head, a little bit of retention and lacing. Looks as a pale ale should, nothing more, nothing less.
S- Grainy pale malt, some straw with floral and pine notes throughout. A little bit of orange marmalade, too. Smells a lot like a fairly decent English bitter, actually.
F- Grainy pale malt stands out, with a little bit of bread and caramel. Some orange marmalade, not sure if this is the citra hops mixing in with the pale malts or if its more of an English hop variety. Complemented, not dominated by floral and pine notes which are stronger towards the backend of the palate.
M- Medium bodied for a 5.2% beer, very flavourful. Not particularly bitter, though there is a small pine presence that makes itself known near the end. Very, very drinkable.
O- I wonder if this is meant to be an APA at 5.2%.. it's described as an IPA on the draught list, but I suspect that it's at least meant to be an English bitter given Karben4's penchant for using more English-style ingredients in their takes on American styles. Either way, solid beer that's an easy drinker for a weekday night out.
