5oz pour from tap into tasting glass.

A - Dark caramel brown with a thin khaki head. Some lacing on the glass.

S- The nose is really, really nice. The bourbon is pleasant with notes of vanilla, caramel, and toffee. Sweet malts and some dark fruit also come into play.

T - The taste is pretty good, but not as great as the nose. You can tell that the base barelywine is solid and that aging it in a bourbon barrel for 12 months added some flavors and complexity. It is sweet and not very bitter. The bourbon is subtle, with only light hints of vanilla. Caramel, toffee, and some dark fruit yield a tasty beer.

M - More of a medium feel, with good carbonation.

O - This turned out pretty well and is probably K4's best attempt at barrel aging a beer. They had a nice base barelywine to begin with and it was rather enjoyable.

On tap at Karben4's taproom. 5oz poured into a taster glass 9/14/2014.

A- Dark caramel brown body, no real head at all to speak of. Quite placid, and a bit muddy looking. [3.5]

S- Bourbon and toffee. That's really what it comes down to. Not the most complex smelling nose, quite sweet with a slight smokiness from the bourbon. [3.75]

F- Whew! This is pretty bourbon forward with caramel and toffee behind it. Not all that complex, but like in the nose it works together reasonably well. [3.75]

M- Thin body, but not watery. Packs plenty of sweet bourbon and sweet malt flavours. Low in carbonation, about right for the style. Smoky bourbon and oak on the finish. [3.5]

O- Interesting but not a particularly substantial barrel-aged barleywine. Quite sweet, so if you have a sweet tooth for bourbon and caramel, this will be a good one for you. It didn't do it for me; it was a struggle to finish my 5oz pour. [3.5]
