Colour is clear black with a touch of deep brown. The brownish, large, thick foam disappears rather quickly.
The sour smell got notes of yeast, smoke and pumpernickel. Overall, the smell is quite mild.
The carbon dioxide is at the same time soft and explosive, as the small bubbles is quite fast fading.
The taste is surprisingly light for being a porter, the taste is more on the sour side than the sweet as I expected from a porter. The dry (almost harsh), roasted body is filled with notes of rye crisp, meat gravy and camomile tea. The long aftertaste is somewhat dry with complex (yet coherent) development.
This beer got a clear resemblance with the other beers from Jämtlands Bryggerier (like Hell, Fallen Angel and Postiljon). I cannot really put my finger on exactly what it is, it is something slightly pleasing chemical taste. Could it maybe be a special selection of hops?

August 2005: Bottle, RBESG 2005, Grand Tasting. Very dark (black) colour, decent head. LOVELY aroma: roast malts, sherry, plums. Flavour is VERY roasty, notes of espresso coffee, but not much beyond that. A bit too fizzy.

Bottle courtesy of thewolf: Poured a light black color porter with a big light brown foamy head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma of green hops is surprising and doesn't mix that well with the roasted malt notes. Taste is a weird mix between green bitter hops with some corn malt easily noticeable and some roasted bitter malt. The mix between all those different tastes didn't really do it for me. Average body with good carbonation. Definitely not what I was expecting and not sure why this is rated so high.v

Poured in a nice dark brown colour with two fingers of thick, creamy foam. The smell was of yeast, caramel and sweetness. The taste was surprisingly bitter with some sweetness, chocolate and ashes. A dry and hoppy aftertaste. It's definately one of the best Swedish made porters but the bitterness put me off a little. I would have preferred the taste to be more rounded.

Aroma is sweet malts, slightly soured old coffee and cola notes. Body is black and holds a massive three finger thick frothy tan head. This head redfines lasting. It simply wont budge. Fore is somewhat spritzy and cola tinged. Coffee and mild chocolate flavors follow. Finish is coffee acidic and slightly soured. Never get much in the way of roasty-porter flavors and the body is somewhat thin and still despite such a lively head.

Wonderful oatmeal porter, a very good brew. This has rekindled my desire to visit Sweden, with a stop at the brewery. Solidly black with incredible 80% of glass head even at the end of the bottle poured at angle. creamy smooth drinking, roasty aroma. coffee roast.Bit of hoppy bitterness in finish

Almost clear ruby brown body. Sexy thin off-white head. I love the mild oat flavor in the aroma, its expressed on a cacao foundation that would be flawless to me without this slight lactic profile. Subtle yeasty hints, very dessert like and original aromas: Dates squares, pie crust, graham cookies. Fruitier palate than the nose indicated, this is loaded with dates, figs, grapes character. Theres also this cereal bowl like yeastiness that adds a good kick to this already rather complex sub 5% beer. Im just a bit annoyed by the slight acid bite in the roasty finish. Fitting body is medium in size, smooth with light-medium effervescence. 2 thumbs up Per!

Black ruby body with a good, sizable big-bubbled khaki head. Pretty beer. The roasty aroma has a bit of a bite. Something in there is making me think of vinegar, but its not spoiled. In fact, it has a few months until its "Bast Fore" date. In the flavor, that roasty bite is joined by a bit of raisins. Some chocolate rounds it out.

Originally sampled on 28 January 2003. This is a world class beer; thanks, Per. Nice coffee nose w/ a roasted taste on the palate & a slightly hoppy finish. It's a reddish/brown color w/ a slightly thin body. Very smooth. This is an elegant beer, unfortunately, it's not easy to get your hands on some.

My favourite porter to date, great deep brown to black appearance. Great roasty coffee and caramel flavours, with a long spicy, bitter finish. The thing i liked about this beer, was that it was very softly roasty/bitter/sweet, quite elegant i think. A very enjoyable brew, from a very good Swedish brewer, this is perhaps my favourite from them, extremely tasty.

Pours a very deep garnet, magnificent head, the lace in fine sheets to cover the glass, both a light tan color. Rich nose, loaded with malt, hints of smoke, a bit earthy. Front is sweet, top light, finish is beautifully hopped, the carbonation lively, the aftertaste. One very interesting beer, quite good, not overpowering, but possesses a very unique and complex flavor, a real treat
