Originally brewed in celebration of the first anniversary of Row 34, our favorite Fort Point oyster bar and craft-beer purveyor, Vicinity highlights a neighborhood collaboration of passion and vision. The beer's appearance is a yellow straw-color, with a significant haze. Heavy citrus aromas of pineapple, orange flesh and mango dance on the nose and palate. The pilsner malt provides a medium body and wraps up each sip with a slight balancing bitterness.
MALT: Pilsner, Flaked Wheat, C-15
HOPS: Galaxy, Citra, Columbus

Trillium Vicinity
A: Surprisingly, this NE IIPA from the kings of the style does not pour completely opaque, instead opting for only a slightly hazy, brilliant golden-orange color. Two-and-a-half fingers of meringue-like head sits atop and has really nice retention. Lacing is equally impressive. There are obvious particles floating within, bounced around by the lazy-yet-plentiful carbonation. Per style, it should really be a bit hazier, but otherwise this is perfect. 4.75/5
A: Mango, orange, papaya, tangerine, lime, pineapple, and peach all burst forth from the glass in constant waves. Underneath lies a weedy dankness and a little alcohol sweetness. No real malt aromas are noticeable, but the sheer complexity of the hops (and probably fruity ale yeast contributions) really makes this incredible. The alcohol presence seems a bit much for only 8%, however. 4.5/5
T: Plenty of the same tropical-heavy fruits of the aroma, plus a great and very welcome contribution of juicy and bitter red grapefruit. Melon shows up toward the end of the flavor with the dank and pithy bitterness, along with a little indiscriminate herbaceousness. Malt sweetness is unnoticeable since it blends imperceptibly with the hops and creates a wonderful juiciness. Again, there is an alcoholic note on the end that is slightly unwelcome due to the relatively low ABV and how well it is hidden in other beers of similar ABV; this is a minor gripe, however. 4.75/5
M: Medium, slick, soft, and creamy are all applicable terms here. Carbonation is natural and soft, perhaps a little on the low end but not at all in a bad way. Dryness is slight, leaving the finish somewhat sticky and syrupy, making the beer seem much bigger than it is. This may be a bit of a flaw, but it somehow does not seem as detrimental as it could be in other beers. 4.25/5
O: This is a fantastic IIPA from perhaps the best brewer of this style. While it is not perfect, it does approach that and belongs in the conversation for the best to come out of the movement. There is so much juicy complexity that it is almost overwhelming, and it is almost perfectly balanced with the dankness that shows up later. It is truly remarkable how well Trillium integrates the overt hoppiness with the malts in a way that they worth together rather than being somewhat separate entities as in some other NE IPAs. Equally remarkable is how they wring unique flavors out of very similar, Galaxy-dominated hop bills. Pair with The Wonder Years "The Upsides" for being awesome but not quite game-changing. 4.5/5

The beer pours a nice white and creamy head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is a hazy yellow and orange color that looks really nice. The texture is very similar to that of juice.
The smell is delicious. It has a nice mango and sweet pineapple upfront with light orange and bitter hop notes around the edges.
The taste is equally delicious but surprisingly different. The first notes to come forward are a grassy pine note alongside an orange note. The sweeter notes like pineapple and mango come out later only to be followed by the pale malt notes.
The feel is pretty good. It has a medium body with a slight heft to it with tingling carbonation. Otherwise, it's pretty smooth. It has low acidity.
Overall, a pretty good beer worth having. It's definitely a nice version of the style.

Poured from pint can into shaker pint glass.
A: Pours an extremely thick and hazy lemon yellow hue with 1-2 inch frothy white head with excellent retention.
S: Mango cream, sweet pineapple, fresh orange, and subtle pine resin and dry cracker malt.
T: Zesty orange, sweet pineapple and mango cream with a touch of bitter pine resin. Subtle backbone of cracker malt.
M: Medium body. Loads of fresh citrus and tropical sweetness. Juicy feel. Moderately strong bitter elements help balance this out.
D: Not a complex beer, but each note is extremely well expressed and compliments the other elements very well. A superb brew!

Opaque and murky, pale yellow. Looks like orange juice. Small white head.
Sweet and tropical aroma; candied pineapple, white peach, mango. Some lychee, honeydew melon, and white grape.
Nice pop of sweet fruit--pineapple dominates, along with white peach, white grape juice, some mango and lemon. Lychee and subtle honeydew melon. Fluffy doughy malt with a slight honey, graham cracker sweetness.
Thicky and creamy mouthfeel, slight tickly carbonation, smooth and clean.

Yellow in color with a very hazy complexion. There’s a fingernail of off white on top. The aroma is of citrus and lemon lime. I’m tasting a wallop of lemon lime and citrus. The mouth is very smooth.

One of my favorite Trillium beers. It is opaque with creamsicle color and soft, thin foam; it is a beautiful beer. The taste is equally citrusy and oaty with a pillowy mouthfeel. I get a lot of marshmallow and vanilla too. Overall, a tasty beer and not overdone.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours hazy golden orange amber with a frothy off cream head that settles to a firm layer and laces nicely.
S: Almost candied tropical and stone fruit, a touch of melon, ripe citrus, subtle earthy notes, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
T: Nearly over ripe tropical and stone fruit, pineapple, mango, peach, apricot, and passion fruit, citrus, tangerine, lime, and grapefruit, subtle earthy tones, grassy slightly herbal notes, biscuity malt, and plenty of caramel sweetness.
M: A bit on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate.
O: Really solid, though it sits a bit on the sweet side. I can't say it breaks any new ground or makes me go "Wow!" like I thought it might given its current rating (4.45 at the time of this review).
