Notes / Commercial Description:
Pot and Kettle with Cold Brew is just one of our many inspired collaborations with Barrington Coffee Roasting Company. With decades of experience hand-selecting and roasting single origin beans from across the world, cold brewed Barrington coffees provide the perfect addition to our signature oatmeal porter. Like a fresh pull of espresso, Coffee Pot & Kettle pours a dark, almost black color with a dense, sepia brown head. Aromas of fresh brewed coffee, nutty cocoa, dark fruits, burnt-caramel, and subtle vanilla waft out of the glass. Moderate in body with medium carbonation; Deep, roasty flavors of cacao, earthy-coffee, mocha, toffee, and dark malt sweep over the palate with an oatmeal-based creaminess and gentle bitterness. To fully explore the wide range of unique aromas and flavors derived from the diverse array of coffees available, we continuously experiment with varying Barrington roasts and blends with each batch of Pot & Kettle with Cold Brew.

MALT: American 2- row Malt, Rolled Oats, Pale Chocolate, Black (Patent), Carafa III (Dehusked Black), Caramunich, C-120, C-80

Picked up the other night at the brewery, and shared with rudzud.

Bottled 11/20/14
Pours an awesome creamy thick solid 1 finger head fades fairly slowly with tons of thick lacing, pitch black beer.

Nose is very nice, great fresh coffee, smooth light nutty coffee, not a heavy coffee but a smooth rich coffee, touch of caramel and cocoa, little nutty, little creamy oats, touch fudgey.

Taste is more like a cocoa iced coffee, light smooth coffee with a little nutty note, blends well, a light coffee grind, faint cocoa, caramel, light oats, etc. Fair nutty flavor, mild bitterness, nice fresh mellow coffee, mild creaminess but nice oat. Finish is a bit light, little bitterness, little nutty, light smooth coffee, mild acid roast note.

Mouth is a bit thin, not very creamy or chewy, nice carb at least.

Overall pretty good, nice smooth mellow coffee blends nicely with the oatmeal porter, not very complex but enjoyable, but expected a bit more.

I CANsider myself very fortunate to have been the lucky winner of a buncha CANs in a recent lottery on a different social media site. I merely had to pony up the cost of shipping, which was modest, in return for a buncha CANs for The CANQuest (tm)! I had heard of & was certainly aware of Trillium B.C., but I have not been trading in a while & so I did not give them much thought. I am now interested in drinking & reviewing the entire Small Bird Series, especially Pipsqueak Penguin & Stumpy Duck since I have an affinity for the former & a rubber form of the latter who oversees my drinking & will be in an NBS pic later.

Nowt to report from the stark grey & white CAN. 8=(

I Crack!ed the CAN open, but before I could get the Glug going, I ran over to check that the coffee pot was turned off. The kitchen suddenly smelled redolent with coffee! I CANmenced a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass & then gave the beer an in-glass swirl which raised a brief finger of foamy, fizzy, deep-brown head with extremely limited retention. Bye! Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity & cola highlights. Nose was rich with coffee, sure, but I thought that I also smelled coconut. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The coffee taste was not as pronounced as the nose had led me to expect, but it was unquestionably an adjunct in this beer. I also got a slight sweetness, like chocolate & maybe coconut, but I could not nail it down. Definitely coffee with some chocolaty sweetness, for sure. Mmm. Finish was semi-dry, just sweet enough to keep it from being fully dry. This seemed tome to be a dessert beer, one that would pair well with cheesecake or something else where this could be drank in lieu of actual coffee. On its own, though, one was plenty.

11/20/2014 bottling date.

A: Pours almost pitch-black with a medium-sized and dense brown head. Almost no lacing, just a little splotch here and there. Decent retention.

S: Light but aromatic coffee. Decent chocolate adds in to give it a mocha-like aroma. Smooth grainy oatmeal abound. Light dark fruits in there too. Nicely rounded. Coffee is slightly more pronounced when swirled but it's still weaker than I'd expect for a "coffee porter".

T: More of the same. Coffee is stronger here but not overpowering by a long shot. Lots of nice chocolate. Big dose of that creamy oatmeal smoothing it all out so nicely. Soft and creamy. Coffee is lightly bitter initially but is smooth and sweet throughout otherwise. Wonderful lingering mocha flavor between sips. Edit: I saw the review below mind that describes this as coffee ice cream. That's really perfect, the creaminess, sweetness and just enough coffee really does conjure that up.

M: Mouthfeel is heavenly on this one. So smooth and creamy. No sharp flavors, no harshness, no bitterness, no alcohol burn, nada. It's sweet but not overly so, the coffee balances perfectly. Impressive considering this bottle isn't even a month old. This is smoother than 5 year old stouts that I've aged.

O: One hell of a great coffee porter. If you are expected a coffee bomb, look elsewhere. The coffee is just a nice addition, providing complexity and balance. This isn't the type of coffee porter that you can smell across the room and the bitter coffee flavor dominates and obliterates all the other aspects of the beer. Oatmeal provides a great level of smoothness and creaminess and just enough grainy sweetness. Really phenomenal beer. Complex and balanced at the same time, I could drink this every day no problem.

750ml brown bottle, sample purchased at Gordon's Wine DTX Boston, MA.

Darkest brown, nearly pitch black. Fresh coffee aroma, the cold brew is very aromatic and compliments all of the robustness this beer already has. Smooth and creamy, chewy medium body. Suggestions of chestnuts, carob powder, molasses, & dark bread. Dark fruit and a kiss of alcohol, berry like cold brewed coffee flavor with a drawn out roasted malt and coffee character. Excellent use of coffee, very bold but not over the top. A lovely brew.

Pours opaque, dark brown in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, and light caramel. Medium-heavy bodied, sweet and roasty, with moderate carbonation. Makes for a good stout. Really nice combination of coffee and chocolate. A must beer for coffee lovers.

A rich creamy porter that flirts with being a stout. It pours jet brown with a nice mocha cap. Aromas of roasted malts and black bread appear subtly beneath a sea of coffee. Big beer that drinks quite easily. Well worth the effort to snag one. Cheers!

Poured from a 32 ounce growler into a nonic glass.

Love the frothy khaki head with a truly creamy, shake-like quality to it. Beneath could be coffee or just a pitch-black beer. Either/or. Lace forms a tulip like shape like a tulip. Very gorgeous to the eye. 4.75

Sure as hell smells like cold brewed coffee. Nutty, caramel, and granular bean aroma with some light sugar added. 4.25

As a coffee drinker and a cold brew fan, I really wish I could get these dimensions from a cold-brewed coffee. Caramel and toffee, nuttiness, brown sugar, woodiness and a finish with some dark stone fruit. Pretty goddamn delicious. 4.5

Thinner-bodied and cold brew coffee-like, but there's enough creaminess to not leave me wanting for richness. 4.25

Very tasty. Lots of rich flavors.
