Citra Dry Hopped SunshowerCitra Dry Hopped Sunshower
Notes: Sunshower is our Super Saison, a high-gravity farmhouse ale inspired by the ethereal refreshing mid-summer moments when we experience both rainfall and the heat of the sun in New England. Similar to our flagship Trillium, the mouthfeel is light and effervescent with a bright, golden hue. We allow the fermentation temperature to free-rise, resulting in a dry beer with strength and complexity. Layers of pepper and earthy characteristics that play nice with the crisp, smooth backbone of a pilsner and wheat malt bill.

Dry Hopped with Citra, this iteration of Sunshower leads with a nose of fresh bread, lemongrass, and a hint of bubble gum. Following the nose, a lemon forward palate with a touch of honey.

MALT: Pilsner, White Wheat, Flaked Wheat

HOPS: Citra, Columbus

A:
Pours a cloudy bright straw-gold with a hugely effervescent, pristine white head that slowly drops and never disappears. Too good of retention; lots of sticky, scummy lacing. (4.25)

S:
Grapefruit and Belgian yeast. Tart citrus, spicy phenolic yeast scents, soft and creamy vanilla backbone, cream soda. (4.25)

T:
Chalky citrus with some phenols. Grapefruit pith, kumquat, chalk, slight lacquer heat, dough, flowers, spicy yeast with dry linger. (4)

M:
Hugely bubbly, active carbonation, not too dry, noticeable booze. (3.75)

O:
This is a pretty alright saison.
It is basically a pretty yeasty, stiff saison that is dry-hopped with tons of Citra from the taste of it (and the label, obviously). The hop comes through nice with layers of tartish resinous citrus/herbal bitterness.
It looks very nice in the glass although it is a little overcarbonated (even for a Belgian style). The aroma is delicious with bright floral yeast and citrusy hops. It is hard to tell where the yeast ends and the hops begin. The flavor is considerably harsher than it smells. Mainly pith with some slight chalky bitterness from the yeast and the bitterness from the hops being predominate. It is fluffy in the mouth but it is a little too active bubble-wise and too boozy/estery/phenolic? for the style. It kind of clashes with the rest of the beer.
Not bad, though. I drank it all and enjoyed it all. (3.75)

Pours a golden yellow straw color, a little cloudy, with a huge foamy white head. There is a lot of carbonation and a thick soapy lacing. For me, the odor is citrus, grapefruit, orange, lemon, spicy, hay, herbal, slightly metallic, barnyard, coriander, grassy. The taste for me is very spicy, lemon zest, herbal, green, bread like, cracker, dry, grassy, hay, grapefruit, some bitterness throughout.

From a 750ml bottled 09/09/15, in a tulip. Bright slightly hazy honey-yellow - there is no way to pour this without an enormous fluffy head! Thick sticky lacing abides. S: Yeasty-bready and lemony. Sharp and clean. T: Uncomplicated, in a good way, it's a saison, it's dry-hopped with citra, and that's exactly what it tastes like - not muddled with any other conflicting flavours. Yeasty and citrusy. Period. F: Medium-heavy body lightened by good carbonation, slick and sticky. O: Totally not a typical, traditional-style saison but, I suppose it wasn't intended to be. I've almost finished the bottle and still can't say whether or not I liked it. It's the only time I can think of that I've given an overall score lower than the taste score. But that's completely me because undeniably it's masterfully brewed.

Hazy pale straw with an orangey hue. Two-plus fingers of airy, gold-tinted head. Modest, soapy lacing.

Big lemon peel in the nose, with a grassy, herbal note, slight yeast and slight soap behind.

Lemon, clementine, coriander, cut grass and a nice, oily bitterness fold over each other up front and mid-palate in the taste, followed by a fairly clean finish with just a little lingering citrus.

The feel reminds me of one of those expensive, designer fruit sodas. Fizzy without being over carbonated. Pretty hefty body, too.

There's just a hint of traditional saison flavors behind the all-out hop assault in this one, but the lemon and grass addition works really well. Great beer. 8/25/17 canned on date.
