Our newest hoppy American pale ale, Skimpy Sparrow, is the latest edition in our "Small Bird Series" of lower ABV offerings. The nose is an intense, complex fusion of pineapple, grapefruit pith, and woodsy hop aromatics. Citrus rind, grape jam, and lemon fill out the flavor profile, with a firm and long-lasting bitterness. Very dry and effervescent, light to medium bodied.

You’re like fishing and stuff. You are thinking Hemingway The Old Man And The Sea and stuff. But when you are out there, all you get is an ok tuna. Like, not even big brother. You got young brother who’s a bit dumb. That’s this beer.
*edit
Over the course of drinking this beer, it has significantly improved. But I haven’t.

Can from July 2020, 3 week old
Not a bit of sweetness in the new American Pale. So good. Tons of cracker and grapefruit.

Dated 6/26/19 on the bottom, 6 weeks since canning.
Pours a murky, dark yet vibrant orange with two fingers of pillowy head. Nose of pineapple, tangerine rind, unripened peach, very slight white wine, whole grain cereal, resin and papaya. Taste is much subdued compared to the nose, with the cereal notes taking a 60/40 advantage over the citrus and tropical notes. I also get a bit of lime at the end of each sip along with a tangy plant note, like arugula. Mouthfeel is soft and thirst quenching with a medium- body. Low+ bittering, medium- drying and low rolling carbonation. Definitely a great pale but didn't perfectly hit the spot.

Quite grassy, nice citrus bitterness, a solid fruit salad of notes on the nose and tongue. A little minerally, green, and sharp, but controlled enough to not be a bad thing, more complimentary. Definitely more “C” hop presence than a lot of Trillium beers. Wonderful for a hot day and a change of pace from their big hazy IPAs.
Very nice, quite flavorful for a 5% beer, and very easy drinking. But I don’t think it deserves the “exceptional” ratings it’s getting. Little Trillium bias leaking in? In a session IPA category I might agree (if this one qualifies), but not in the general American IPA or NE IPA category.
