Dusk Trill DawnDusk Trill Dawn
Notes: Our latest collaboration with Evil Twin Brewing is a heavenly, coffee infused stout drawing inspiration from Even More Jesus & our own PM Dawn. Ascendence is inevitable with unique complexities provided by the use of experimental sugars and a small percentage of smoked malts. Bold aromas of freshly ground coffee beans, cherry jam, and vanilla extend to the palate with additional notes of intense milk chocolate, vanilla, and slight smoke. Dusk Trill Dawn is dry with a light mouthfeel and moderate bitterness.

Bottled 6/22/16; drank 8/13/16 @ Golgi Apparatus.

Brown/black appearance.

Small tan head; minimal lace.

Vanilla, milk chocolate, light roast coffee bean & banana notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Light roast coffee bean, banana & milk chocolate flavors up front; vanilla notes on the finish. No booze heat.

Complex yet easy to drink; well done!

Look is pitch black, thick and poured with 2+ fingers of tan head.

Aroma is coffee, chocolate and maybe cherry.

Taste follows nose. Big coffee and chocolate with a touch of cherry.

Feel is full, creamy and smooth.

Overall a fantastic stout. It's one of the better non ba stouts I've had in awhile....

Solid coffee stout with lots of chocolate malt, and slight bitter roast. Medium body with subtle carbonation. Easy drinking beer that I would love to enjoy again.

Thanks to mjytown08 for this 750ML bottle, split with my wife while finishing up an episode of “Intervention”. No, Linda, you can’t look in my cellar. Sorry, basement.

The pour is dark with a head more persistent than a Havana panhandler. Smells like an imperial stout: chocolate, roast, sweet malts.

Dusk Trill Dawn carries that distinct undertone of Evil Twin that I can’t quite put my little finger on. Dark malts, roasted malts, moderate coffee, anise, & that sweet abyss darkness of E.T. Strong vanilla is the cherry on top in the middle with a charred finish. Super creamy & a fine sipper, I could sit in front of a fire - or out in the sun, depending on which day of March it is here in MN - for quite a long time.

This grew on me rapidly. Insanely drinkable, creamier than my wife’s lovely cheek, with enough levels of complexity to be registered in the Player’s Handbook. Excellent stout.

Love Trillium beers. Hard to beat them. This stout is very roasty and right down the middle for the style. Looking fwd to some BA offerings from them.

Simply outstanding brew. Coffee is up front and in your face which is how I like it in a Stout. Nice and thick, think liquid velvet. I am not a huge Evil Twin fan and while I am a Trillium guy the stouts I've had have not matched up with their hops, this one does and exceeds most. On par with Kane's dark beers which is extremely high praise in my book. If you can get one do it, well worth whatever it takes, Wow !

Loved it. I was expecting a beer a little too strong (I feel most of Evil Twin's stouts are) but this one was good. I'd like to try the Barrel Aged version of it.

Pours opaque black with a half-inch beige head that disappears completely and leaves faint spots of lace. The smell is of fresh brewed coffee with cream and smoked grain. The taste follows with smoky malt, coffee, lactose and a hint of black cherry. Full texture with low carbonation.

Dark brown/black in appearance with slight tan head and nice coffee aroma. Taste is very much dry bitter chocolate and slightly green coffee with a hint of smoke and roast. The body is silky smooth and dry, not much residual sweetness to this one. Bottle was 6/16 and while the coffee came through well it had a slightly grassy taste to it and the chocolate and vanilla tasted somewhat oxidized or faded in this one.

750 mL bottle. Almost black with a big khaki head. Smells of coffee, nutty malts, dark chocolate. Tastes of coffee, dark chocolate, smoke, and earthy malts. Kinda sweet, but balanced nicely by coffee and malt bitterness. Medium heavy. High carbonation. Not the richest or darkest stout, but it's just hefty enough and balances the sugar nicely.

Served from a 750 ml bottle for onsite consumption at Trillum Canton MA.

Pours a pitch black body with a light brown small head that reduces pretty quickly to leave very little lacing.

Aromas are subtle but present, light coffee and smokey malt, chocolate.

Taste is big and bold, tons of dark chocolate, roasty coffee, smoky BBQ, vanilla, dark fruits, finishes super roasty leaving a light bitter smokeyness on the tongue.

Body is thick rich and viscous, low carbonation.

A real treat. Super complex and nice body.

Full bodied. Thick and chewy.

Solid, but rated a bit highly rated.

Really nice body. Smooth. Slightly roasty. Dark chocolate. Matching bitterness. You get the hint of sweetness but really a lingering roasty bitterness that balances between a fruity coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Not a motor oil body but certainly nice and thick.

Great taste, loved this beer. Awesome taste. No hint of vanilla or anything to me. Not as boozy as I thought it would be. Had some chocolate aromas. Very dark and thickness was pretty good.

A- Midnight oil black pour from the 750 to several tasting wine glasses. A dark mocha head atop rises atop the body with fair retention falling down to a wide belt. That ring ends up leaving spotty lacing all around the glass.

S- Heavy roasted black barley leads the way. Deep roast coffee follows it up with plenty of strength of its own blending into a mix of vanilla sweets, dark grains, chocolate and cookies.

T- Coffee with a medium-dark roast leads things off and again for whatever reason a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies comes to mind. Vanilla sweetness, raisins, cocoa powder, blackened barley, caramel and mocha come to mind.

MF- Thick and oily body with a texture riding the line between creamy chewy and frothy. The carbonation is towards the high side and this brew ends fairly warm from that high ABV.

Bold coffee and a somewhat but not full blown dessert feel to this great Trillium Stout. Thanks Kevin for gifting me this bottle and it seems now that any Trillium brew is a must try.

An outstanding collaboration stout with a beautiful malted milk chocolate ball aroma. Deeply roasted flavor, big coffee notes in the aroma greet you on each sip. Pleasantly boozy, not overpowering at all but warming. The chocolate malt aroma includes faint whiffs of vanilla, making it feel even more decadent. I wish I had a second bottle.

Big rich creamy dark fluffy head fades slowly, thick messy lacing, pitch black think beer

Nose fresh coffee, earthy nutty soft coffee, fruity coffee bean , little fudgey cocoa, little nutty and caramel, so much fresh nutty coffee and cookie dough, faint cocoa dust

Taste earthy roasted malts, little acrid roasted and bit Smokey, roasted fresh coffee, nutty earthy coffee, mild spicy chewy hop bitterness, dark choc cocoa, cookie dough, faint nougat, sweet coffee and fresh roasted coffee, but that mild Smokey acrid soy thing makes it meh. Finish is dry big roasted coffee, fudge cocoa, nutty coffee as a bit earthy, little earthy hop, bit more smokey soy thing.

Mouth is fuller bod but creamy lush, thick but smooth and silky, decent carb.

Overall very nice, would be incredible if not for that smokey acrid burnt thing.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black hue with a one finger mocha head that fades to leave light lacing and wisps.

S - Aromas of phenomenal coffee, super rich and deep. Great fudgy chocolate, really rich. Almost cookie dough esc with great nuttiness. Super aromatic.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, nice fudgy chocolate, rich coffee. Then all of a sudden huge acrid smoky soy sauce. Really good rich cookie dough, but, that smoky note really confuses everything else.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, smooth and creamy.

O - Overall this was a very very good stout with great fudgy notes. The only problem was the smoky notes, which kind of ruins the greatness. Very unfortunate.

Appearance - Pours black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. A tan, quarter-finger width head forms, then rolls back fairly quickly to reveal a mostly barren surface. A few spots make up the lacing.

Smell - Coffee roast, chocolate, vanilla and some booziness make up the bulk of the aroma. Also some faint caramel as the brew warms.

Taste - Follows the nose. Boozy punch that's accented with notes of dark and milk chocolate and vanilla, followed by some moderate coffee roast. Underlying caramel. Some light, jammy berry midtaste and into the finish with a hint of smoke. Aftertaste rings with some mild coffee ground earthy bitterness, milk chocolate and astringency.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth, with a touch of syrupy texture, and a fairly dry, boozy finish.

Overall - Great, tasty beer but boozy, especially for a non-BA impy. A shame, because this would be a monster if the booziness wasn't so prominent. As is, it's certainly worth a try.

Bottle shared by Matthew, who always seems to have Trillium on hand.

Near black body, with prominent coffee character. Quite tasty. The body is a bit thinner than expected. Tasty, though not world class, which we've come to expect from all Trillium beers.

Wonderful dark color and carmel colored head on the pour. Coffee and chocolate on the nose. Sweet chocalate flavor with bitter coffee on the finish. A little on the sweet side but enough backbone to just make it work. Thick and viscous with a very pleasant effervescence. An impressive brew.

One of the few times that the company's write-up is spot-on. I can't find the "cherry jam", but the rest is pretty accurate. Love the hint of smoke in the nose and on the tongue and the coffee flavor is top-notch, but it is the super smooth mouth feel that really sets this one apart. It doesn't hide the 11.5 ABV, but it also doesn't come across as overly boozy.

The sweetness might scare a few folks away -- if a little sugar in your Imperial stouts is not your thing, you might not love this one as much as I do.

Bottom line - this is a superior coffee stout. What do we need to do to get these nice kids together again soon?

It looks rich. Dark opaque brown in color with a thin brown head indicative of an imperial stout. It's enticing.

The nose is strong with espresso, caramel, vanilla, and molasses with a hint of whiskey. A complex and inviting smell.

The taste is herbal and sweet like root beer at first but then developes into caramel, coffee, oak and whiskey. Very little heat for an imperial.

The mouthfeel is pleasant. Medium body, flows smoothly and doesn't take away from the beer. Could use a little less carbonation but not bad.

Overall, a beer I would drink on a regular basis.

I love stouts. I really love coffee stouts. This one has the look, feel, and smell. However, I am not crazy about the sweet/lactose infusion. I am not crazy about the Evil twin stouts for that reason. This is a real boozer too, so I sipped it slow. It sure was fun while it lasted.
