Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
We brew Deciduous to welcome the return of Autumn and celebrate New England's ever changing foliage. For this new version we brewed an opaque Imperial Brown Ale. The nose omits pleasant aromas of pine sap, toasted bread and orange marmalade. Deciduous embodies the seasonal transition from summer to winter with an herbaceous lemon and spicy pine aroma balanced on the palate with a hearty, multigrain malt character and clean, refreshing bitterness. Deciduous is medium in body and dry on the finish.

MALT: British Pale Malt, Flaked Wheat, Dextrine, Carared, Carafa III Special, Dextrose

HOPS: Centennial, Columbus

4-pack of 16oz cans bought from the Canton brewery. Canned on 10/19 drank on 11/9.

I've never been a huge brown ale fan but I adore this beer. So, so balanced- yes there is lot's of toasted cacao, malt and cracker but there's plenty of piney, and floral hops to round it out. I've never had a brown ale this balanced, and this crushable- it doesn't feel like a meal.

I don't drink many brown ales but this beer came as an extra in a trade. I waited a few weeks before popping the can beacause let's face it, Trillium is known for their great DIPA's not brown ales and I had a lot of IPA's to drink. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised how good this beer tasted. Yes, it's not your typical brown ale. It's turbid, hazy and lighter brown in color than any brown ale I've ever seen before. Yet, it looks pretty damn cool. Smell is slightly earthy and taste is a combination of biscuit, cocoa, pine and a medium hop bite that again is definitely unlike any brown I've ever had. It falls somewhere between brown ale and IPA. Purists may not like this beer because it's not true to style and it's definitely hoppier than a typical brown ale, but the taste is excellent so I say who cares. Great balance and highly drinkable. This beer is definitely underrated.

I had a hard time rating this one. it does taste very good, however, it doesn't taste or smell like a brown ale but more like an IPA. Similar to ordering a hamburger and having it taste like apple pie, although likely delicious, when i order a hamburger I'm looking forward to tasting a hamburger.

Pours a murky, almost muddy reddish-orange-brown in color with a half finger of off white head; it's really not an pleasant looking beer. Aroma is a bit subdued but I get some pine, toasty, bready malt, and a hint of lemon. The taste hits a lot of the same notes. I get pine, lemon, floral and citrus hops, toasted bread, and caramel malt. Good mouthfeel, medium+ body and moderate+ carbonation. Overall a pretty solid beer. It looks pretty unappetizing but it improves from there. The flavor is more focused on hops than other brown ales but since hops are a strong point for Trillium this isn't a bad thing.

Had on tap at Canton. Pours hazy, light milk chocolate in color with minimal head. Taste is pine, cracker, toasted malt, and a bit of leather and citrus. Light bodied with medium carbonation. Wonderfully complex brew. Bitter, but not in your face bitter. Not usually a fan of hoppy brown but Trillium nailed this one. Up there with my favorites from them. Well worth seeking out.

What was once red is now brown. A muddy gross looking brown. Haze plus higher SRM does not look nearly as nice.
Aroma is a hint of chocolate mixed with pine and grapefruit.
Flavor is a bit more grapefruit, sweet caramel, chocolate, pine
A bit more aggressively bitter than most other Trillium beer.
Taste but hideous beer. Not quite enough malt for me to call it a brown ale though.

Got a real apple cider thing going on here yet verging on the typical Trillium IPA. Its good any very drinkable but i dunno what it is.

Super cloudy, opaque apple cider color. Looks like gross muddy pond water. Thin head doesn't hang around and help me pack up my apartment and boy do I need some packing help.

Citrus hos leap out of the glass. I was expecting toasted malt and caramel malts but wow, here's some hops.

Juicy citrus and mango hop flavor floating in a thick caramel malt base.

It's a big, sweet, hoppy brown IPA. Not my thing but if it was this would be about what I'd want. Kept me company while I finished packing up the kitchen.

Pours a 1/2 inch head which disappears in minutes to a minuscule ring. Nose of pine, grapefruit, and grass. Palate follows nose with added bitterness. Feel is a tad thin. Dry and bitter finish. Maybe I got an off can, but I am not picking up what a previous reviewer was laying down.
