Notes: When we met the Omnipollo team in California at the inaugural RateBeer Best Fest, we knew we had to find a way to brew together. #sweden

We decided to go beyond our comfort zone to craft an immensely robust Imperial Stout that landed at 12.7% abv. Then came a balanced addition of Madagascar Bourbon vanilla beans and subtle hint of green cardamom to accent a liberal dose of cold brewed medium roast Barrington Gold coffee. For an additional layer of complexity, we aged a small amount in Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels for 6 months.

Sampled this cellar temp 22 oz bottle tonight poured into a snifter. The beer pours a deep chocolate brown with no light passing through my glass when I hold it to the light.
There is a 2.5 cm densely packed tan head with creamy appearance.
The aroma is rich dark chocolate with sweet vanilla notes and roasted malt and coffee mixing together. A bit of sweet brown sugar and some faint bourbon too. I dont get any hop profile nor any boozy heat from this bigger beer. The aroma is appealing and on the sweet side.
First sip reveals a creamy textured fairly thick beer with smooth and gentle carbonation. Very nice physical traits on this beer. No heat on the finish, further hiding the ABV.
The flavor is what I expect from the nose, dark chocolate and some brown sugar and vanilla, a little bit of dark fruit mixing in. The coffee is kind of muted and I also dont get as much bourbon at this point. The hops are no where to be found. I find this a robust and complex Imp stout and really enjoyed working on the bottle. Probably a better idea to split this with a friend, but it is doable solo. Enjoy if you have one as I dont think it will get any better, and the coffee will fade more over time.

been holding onto this one for a while, definitely stoked to give it a try!

pitch black in color, an aggressive pour yields a finger of brown head. up front is creamy vanilla, thick caramel, chocolate, molasses, and a spicy note reminiscent of cardamon but also some warm like cinnamon and allspice ... very Christmas! deep roasty note in the background, im sure the coffee has mellowed out a bit over time. there is no overt bourbon note and overall booze is seemingly absent, but the barrel is there big time, bringing oak, caramel, toffee, and vanilla. cardamon becomes a bit greener and slightly vegetal as it warms, not my favorite note, but interesting none the less. some dark fruit character emerging as well. mouthfeel is full bodied, thick and absolutely chewy. smack of spice and a hint of bourbon on the finish ties this one off, just insane!

Received in a trade. Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black with a thin mocha head that fades to leave thin halo.

S - Aromas of cardamom galore, really nice cold brew coffee too. Those are excellent. The barrel is super super faint and the vanilla is non-existent.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, great green cardamom with delicious dark chocolate. The vanilla is nice and bright, though more barrel like than anything. The coffee was wonderful. Really smooth.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, thick, creamy luscious.

O - Overall this was a very very good. Excellent coffee and cardamom. Very well done collaboration.

Thanks to rudzud

Nice creamy fluffy mocha head, fades at a fair pace, little lacing, decent legs, pitch black

Nose huge fresh coffee as loads of cardamom, big spice, a touch vanilla, little cocoa chocolate, little caramel and baking spice, vanilla barrel, faint bourbon, wish the vanilla and barrel was a bit more

Taste big spice, cardamom bomb, big caramel and some juicy vanilla, some cocoa, little bitter roast, fresh coffee, mild nutty coffee, little spicy like spices, dark choc, vanilla ice cream, little barrel, toasted malt.

Mouth is fuller bod, creamy rich thick, decent carb, very little booze

Overall awesome beer, one of the best stouts I've had from them

750 ml
No date

Deep brown in color with a nice tinted brown head that remains as it settles. No discernible lacing.

Nose is oak, molasses, bourbon, a bit of coffee, and a bit of vanilla.

Taste is bourbon and oak mixed with vanilla, chocolate, coffee, molasses, booze, and accented by cardamom.

Mouthful is medium and soft. Carbonation is average to low. Finish is semi sweet.

Awesome BA Stout that is very much accented by the vanilla and cardamom. Dangerously drinkable. Nicely balanced. Very sippable. Boozy and sweet. Recommend sharing.

Got this one today from Abitker, thanks man

750 poured into a perfect stout glass

looks good in the glass! big 3 inch head, beer is completely black

aroma is heavy cardamom, dominates the nose alsmost conpletely, some roast. no very much barrel

taste follows the nose, heavy cardamom, barrel comes through, nice roastiness. it's actually pretty tasty, as it warms the cardomen comes down and the oak comes out a bit more. not very much coffee. Becomes very sweet.

mouthfeel is good. big body, good carb and hides the abv really well

overall this was different that i expected. might want to put cardamom first and in caps on the label. still a tasty brew but nothing amazing. Must like cardamom!!

edit: had to cork this guy u til tomorrow the cardamom got a bit too overwhelming

some people are using words like balance in their reviews, this is definitly not balanced. if you like cardamom you'll like this beer

Pours thick and sludgy with a 1/2 finger if mocha head. Smelll is cardamom, fudge and sweet vanilla and bourbon. Taste follows nose with nice balanced spice leading into chocolate that reminds me of a thick dark chocolate milkshake with vanilla notes. Bourbon and barrel character are there but don't overpower the taste. Nicely balanced. Mouthfeel is medium to full, much thicker than a lot of BA stouts. Really great treat.

Wow. Huge cardamom flavor up front. Nice coffee, vanilla and chocolate mid-palate. A tinge of oak on the very back end. Nice boozy warmness in the chest. Semi dry finish. Luscious, thick, rich mouth feel. Really solid.

This smoothed out nicely with the barrel, the cardamom still isn't my favorite adjunct in the stouts but it's better in this version... the barrel adds a rich undertone and the cardamom is a bit more muted. I really enjoyed this but wanted just a little bit more vanilla bean cover up.

The non-BA version blew me away with the multitude of tastes playing off each other - roasted malt, bitter coffee, raw sugarcane, sweet chocolate, vanilla, spice and cardamom; the same flavors are back and once again in harmony, except now there is an added oak and bourbon element that brings this beer to an incredible level of smoothness. Unreal. Soft mouthfeel, no rough edges, a little bourbon heat. World class beer.

I didn't like the regular outside the lines, but I like this. It has all that weird spice and coffee but the bourbon and vanilla really bring this beer together. Thick and flavorful. The cardamom shows, but it's enjoyable.

Thanks a bunch Nick.

This one pours a pretty dark black, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like roasty and spicy coffee, super roasted and flavorful, with vanilla, bourbon, roasted malt, and aloft dark fruit.

The dose of coffee in this one is very delicious and very prominent. It's spicy and slightly fruity, and plays well with the creamy vanilla. The base seems pretty roasty, with a some light smoke and char, as well as some fruitiness on the finish.

This is medium bodied, with a pretty creamy mouthfeel and a lingering boozy bitter finish.

This is my first barrel aged stout from these guys- is it surprising that they also do this well?

Poured from a 750mL bottle into a Trillium snifter. Thanks Steve for hooking me up with this guy.

Pours a thick, black, viscous body with a dark brown one finger head that reduces slowly to leave a good layer of retention and lacing.

Aromas are standard for a BA stout with some spics in there.. lots of bourbon and caramel-vanilla, maybe a tad bit of cinnamon.

So complex on the tongue - starts off with pretty sweet rich bourbon-chocolate flavors, followed by a good amount of cinnamon and spices, followed by coffee, chocolate, finishes dark chocolate with tons of roasty, toasty coffee notes. Thick, rich body, nearly perfect in the mouthfeel category with medium-low carbonation.

Masterful. The bourbon barrel added an extra dimension to the base adjunct stout without overtaking those flavors.

L: Dark onyx and mahogany hues with a thin sandy head
S: Strong cardamom, licorice, anise, and cacao nibs
T: Milk chocolate syrup, slight bit of bourbon, hint of vanilla bean, ginger root, mint, and cardamom pods
F: Medium bodied with a bit of carb
O: To me the barrel aging added a welcomed depth of complexity that helped mollify the somewhat acerbic cardamom qualities of the base beer. In this iteration, I actually get a bit more ginger and mint than the somewhat divisive cardamom - this is a big positive in my book. Add in some vanilla bean and bourbon and you're working with a complex and intriguing stout. Very nicely done.

750ml capped bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Nose is cinnamon, anise, chocolate, fudge, nutmeg and vanilla. Sweet and spiced. Like a holiday chocolate chai. Beer opens chocolate, cinnamon and nutmeg. Waves of fudge and more chocolate in the middle with an herbal vanilla and maple syrup sweetness towards the end. Delicious but this borders on cloyingly sweet. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Chewy but not too heavy on the palate and goes down soft and caressing.

I haven't always been a fan of Trillium's imperial stouts but this is a stand out. Well worth trying.

Had on tap. Pours opaque, black in color with minimal head. Taste is spicy: Big cinnamon, nutmeg, light coffee, vanilla, and bourbon. Sweet with light roastiness, medium-heavy bodied, with medium high carbonation. Amazing complex beer. An imperial stout with a holiday feel. Feels like an amplified winter warmer. This is my favorite stout from Trillium yet--by a long shot. Glad I tried this...well worth seeking out.

Every bit as good as the original Outside the lines released a few months ago but with a nice light smooth barrel finish. Very solid BA stout but a little thin and there are BA stouts just as good that are easier to track down so probably not going to have this one again anytime soon.

Drank from a 25.4 fl oz (750 ml) bottle purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Served in a snifter

Dark caramel brown appearance. A bit lighter in color and thinner in body than I anticipated. The liquid was topped by a small cap of saddle brown froth that quickly fell to a thin ringlet. Minimal streaky lacing along the glass.

The aroma was really interesting. Spice notes came through big time. This reminded me of some type of imperial holiday ale. I thought I picked up ginger and nutmeg, but this was likely the cardamom. Lots of fragrant vanilla too. Moderate amount of roast. Good dose of brown sugar sweetness. There was a subtle creamed coffee presence as well that intensified as the beer warmed.

The flavor profile was similar to the nose but boozier. There was a strong roasted malt presence on the front end. The roastiness was nicely offset by sweet brown sugar notes. Loads of vanilla and spices in the center. As in the nose, I would have guessed ginger and nutmeg. Some maple and chocolate fudge was noticeable too. Cold coffee was also detectible. Boozy, bourbon notes came through strong on the back end and in the finish. Pleasantly warming. Some roast and booze lingered after the swallow. As the beer sat, the sweetness intensified.

Nice fuller bodied mouthfeel. Uber creamy and plush on the palate. The liquid contained an ultra fine, moderate, tongue blanketing effervescence. After a few sips, the sugars in the beer left a sticky film on my lips.

While I remember welcoming the spice notes in the original version of Outside the Lines, I found them to be a bit overwhelming in this barrel-aged variation. All in all, an impressive beer for sure, but you have to be in the right mood for it.

L: Pours a nice dark brown with a solid finger of tan head that stuck around for quits a bit. A solid amount of lacing left on the glass also
S: Lots of coffee in the nose. Hints of vanilla, chocolate, and wood also
T: Like the nose, this is a coffee forward beer with vanilla and chocolate lingering. Only small amounts of barrel present. Just the right amount to let you know its there
F: nice and sweet on the tongue, this coats the mouth with a nice creamy taste.
O: I really like the original OTL, and the BA version does not disappoint. Would certainly buy again

As a big fan of both Trillium and Omnipollo, I was very much looking forward to the non BA release 6 months ago; however, due to the warm time of year and the freshness of the imperial stout, I was quite disappointed; however, the 6 months BA and the holiday season has really improved my perception of the taste, smell, and feel of this beer.

On-tap 12/31/2016 at the brewery in Canton, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains very strong bourbon, black coffee, chocolate, licorice and roasted malts.

T: The taste starts out sweet with strong flavors of coffee, bourbon, dark fruit and dark chocolate. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is very mild as you would expect but it still provides a good balance. The after-taste is very sweet.

M: Smooth, viscous and kind of syrupy, heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is very sticky.

O: Very tasty, goes down dangerously easy, slightly filling, very strong kick, good representation of style, this is a very good big stout to drink for a long time.
