Notes: Sinister Kid is named after the unofficial mascot of our Congress Street brewery: a long forgotten, dismembered doll unearthed in construction rubble. We dusted off Sinister Kid and breathed new life into her, installing a new pipe leg and a wire arm. We quickly found a new use for her evil appearance: keeping an ever present, protective watch over our Congress Street brewery.

This is a special edition of our Belgian Strong Ale aged in sherry barrels and fermented with our native New England yeast culture. Appearance is a deep, opaque reddish-brown with mahogany lining and an off-tan head. Wild Sinister Kid Aged in Sherry Casks emits aromatics of dark fruit, charred oak, vanilla, and savory tobacco hints. This dark, strong ale displays complex flavors of dessert wine, stone fruit, oak, and a light tannic structure with mild acidity. A dry, warming finish with a creamy body rounds out the beer.

MALT: Pilsner, Abbey, Special B, Carafa III, Belgian Candi Syrup, Turbinado Sugar

Appearance: Pours a cola color with amber highlights and a one finger head; splashy lacing abounds

Smell: Sherry, sherry vinegar and green apple tones waft, along with caramel, fig and tart plum/cherry elements

Taste: Tart plum/cherry and green apple flavors forward with sweeter caramel, fig and Oloroso sherry elements underneath; oak and touches of chocolate and vanilla emerge in the middle; the finish is a complex melange

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation; prickly with some heat in the gullet

Overall: So complex with many angles of interest

Thanks, PhineasMcClintock, for the opportunity

Had on tap. Pours opaque dark brown in color with minimal head. Taste is big sherry cask, and stone fruit and a touch of dark chocolate. Heavy bodied, sweet, with moderate carbonation. Easily the best Sinister Kid.

This one pours a dark-ish brown/red, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells primarily like sherry barrel sweetness, with black currant, tobacco, vanilla, lemon candy, and grapefruit.

The sherry barrel does wonders to this beer- it gives it a refined sweetness that works well here. There's also balsamic, red wine, grapes, and malt. You would never really know that this is 11% from the flavor, as there's booziness, and it doesn't taste "hot."

This has a medium body, and it's somewhat creamy, with a good level of drinkability, despite the ABV.

The uniqueness of this makes it a really cool beer. There's not many wild ales out there like this one.

there's a TON of sherry on the scent more so than the taste....not complaining. calling this "mildly" tart is almost laughable....tart AF! i taste all of the 11% , oak-spice and cabernet . it'd be a chore to do a bottle solo but it'll pair well w/ the turkey day meal.

750ml bottle dated 26-Oct-2017

Pours cloudy opaque chestnut brown red maroon amber with a dense creamy beige light tan khaki colored foam head. Smells like slightly boozy sherry wine, slight vinegar, oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, chocolate, molasses, tart funky dark fruit, plum, cherry, grapes, raisin, fig, date, apple, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like rich dark malt, tart sherry wine, vinegar, oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, rich chocolate, molasses, tart funky dark fruit, plum, cherry, grapes, raisin, fig, dates, apple, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium-full bodied, creamy with moderate high carbonation. Overall a really great wild Belgian strong dark ale aged in sherry wine casks.
