Poured from a growler into a tulip glass.

Pours a completely opaque deep amber orange color with a finger of effervescent white head. The head settles into a thin sheet of foam, leaving a few splotches of lacing along the way.

The aroma brings notes of honeydew melons, orange rind, and pineapples followed by a strong wave of pine and honey.

The flavor is a Citra juice grenade lobbed between my face cheeks. Mangoes, honeydew melons, oranges, grapefruits, and pineapples lead the way, followed by a sweet biscuit malt and a strong earthy, piney finish. Sweet, yet perfectly bitter and balanced.

The feel is medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Very creamy and smooth. Relatively soft with a dry finish.

Overall, an outstanding IPA and by far the best hoppy offering I've had from Trillium in quite some time. It's wonderfully balanced and has a thick, creamy mouthfeel that makes you think you're drinking a much heavier beer. I hope this one finds its way into the regular rotation.

Growler from the source.

Pours opaque orangy-gold with a thick, creamy head and thick ropes of lacing. Tropical fruit aplenty in the nose. Mango, pineapple, grapefruit and tangerine. Medium bodied with a creamy, soft, rounded mouthfeel. Ripe citrus on the palate with zero malt and minimal bitterness. Juicy and tropical. Finishes with a light sweetness and very juicy.

Great beer. Lots of tropical juice and insanely drinkable.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Canton, MA
Canned on 05/16/18
Served in a Trillium Permutation Series stemmed glass

Completely opaque, milky-orange appearance. This looked just like a glass of OJ. Pretty extreme, even by Trillium standards. The body was capped by a small, fleeting, off white crown. A minuscule halo encircled the liquid.

The aroma was amazingly hoppy and fruity. Freshly squeezed orange juice notes lept out of the glass. Super bright and sweet. The Citra hops were definitely in full effect. Mango was also noticeable. Bit of melon too. Fairly simplistic perhaps but still so good. As the beer sat, subtle guava and papaya notes appeared.

Orange notes also dominated in the flavor profile. Really juicy and bright. Loads of tangerine as well. Somewhat tangy. Bit of orange peel too. Mango was noticeable in the center. Touch of citrus pith on the back end and in the finish. Hardly any perceivable bitterness however.

Super creamy, plush and smooth mouthfeel. Full bodied for the style. Almost nectar-like. The body contained a fine, moderate effervescence that turned pillowy soft on the palate. By the drink’s end, a slightly sticky film coated my lips.

Permutation Series #38 is an outstanding IPA that showcases the gloriousness of Citra hops like few other beers do. This reminds me of Tree House’s Julius when it is at its prime. I really hope that this beer someday makes it into Trillium’s regular rotating lineup.

Poured into a Sam Adams glass.

Pours turbid as hell, yellow/gold body with a frothy head. Looks like someone threw a banana creme pie in a blender and topped it with cool whip. One of the most creamy-looking beers I've ever seen. It borders on bizarre. Decent marks, though, for piquing my curiosity.

Nice fruity aroma. Some peach, clove, and perhaps banana (power of suggestion from the look?).

Fruits abound in the flavor. Definite peach and cantaloupe, with a complement of floral... something, with a semi-bitter finish of pine and clove. It's a lot of flavors at once, and they don't necessarily play nice together.

Mouthfeel is... milky. I don't know what to think.

I love the "East Coast" style, but this is just so extreme. Perhaps too much of a good thing all around. A jump-the-shark type beer to me.

Looking at the scores so far, and kind of feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I'll revisit after finishing the four pack.

Appearance: Murky / turbid golden orange body. Thick bone white head.

Smell: Tons of oranges. Moderate tropical fruits.

Taste: The timeless combo of citrus and tropical fruits. Tangerine / Mango / Papaya all the way. Hint of cantaloupe. Low bitterness. Hint of dankness to keep the beer from being too sweet.

Mouthfeel: This IPA is so creamy and smooth. A medium light body. low and adequate carbonation. So very juicy.

Overall: one of the better single hop citra IPA's that I have drank. One of the better uses of Citra hops that I can remember since the "OG" PsuedoSue bombers when TG first released them. This is one of my favorites from Trillium to date!

16 oz. can. Pours murky orange with a tan head. Even the foam looks murky. Smells of orange and lots of fruit. Mango and papaya and all that. Earthy notes behind it and a tinge of cat piss. Tastes of sweet pale malt, orange, and strong papaya. A bit of bitterness and that earthy flavor kicks in in the back end. Medium body and even a little chewy. Something kinda funny about this one. I think I enjoy it, but I'm not all that enthused.
