Minot’s Ledge refers to the notorious rock formation located about a mile off the coast of Cohasset and Scituate. Between 1832 and 1841, approximately 40 ships were lost in the vicinity of these rocks, leading to the construction of a 70 foot iron tower to help guide ships in late 1849. This initial tower was knocked over in a massive storm in April of 1851. Recognizing the need for a stronger design, the second Minot's Ledge Lighthouse utilized over 3,514 tonnes of perfectly interlocking dovetailed Quincy granite reinforced with iron shafts. Completed in 1860, this engineering marvel was the most expensive in the history of the United States. Even as waves have been known to crest over the top of the Lighthouse, the strongest gales and storms cause little more than a strong vibration inside.

Minot's Ledge Lighthouse' eponymous beer is a Double IPA brewed with Australian Galaxy hops and pours a light marigold orange with heavy haze. The nose displays a bevy of ripe fruits as diced mango, sweet pineapple, and orange candies entice the palate. Extending through to the palate these flavors present themselves as layered tropical smoothie with an accent of freshly squeezed white grapefruit. Minot"s Ledge Lighthouse has a soft, pillowy mouthfeel and a medium body, with a restrained bite on the finish.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Canned on 02/18/19
Served in a tulip

The completely opaque, pale marigold yellow body was capped by a frothy, half-inch tall, off-white crown that quickly fell to a lasting collar. Odd-shaped streaks of lacing stuck along the glass.

The aroma was amazingly fruity and bold. Honeydew melon notes came through big time. Loads of ripe apricot too. Good dose of white grape as well. Citrus notes were also apparent. Orange and tangerine came to mind. As the beer warmed, the white grape intensified.

The flavor was also fantastic. Juicy citrus notes dominated. Huge orange creamsicle presence. Nice vanilla-like sweetness. White grape came through in the center. Tangy tangerine notes appeared on the back end. Some pineapple too. Hint of pithy citrus rind on the finish. Minimal bitterness. Incredibly well balanced overall.

Outstanding frothy, fluffy mouthfeel. Completely full bodied for the style. Almost smoothie-like. The liquid contained a finely beaded, zippy effervescence that turned uber creamy, slick and smooth on the palate.

Monot’s Ledge Lighthouse is the best beer I have tried thus far in Trillium’s Lighthouse Series and one of their most impressive overall hoppy beers to date. The fruity hop notes were in full effect and the malts provided the perfect amount of balance and body. While many folks have been complaining about Trillium’s new fermentation profile, JT and company knocked it out of the park with this beer.
