Style: American Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Dialed Up builds upon the foundation of our series of Double IPA’s brewed with grape must, Dialed In. For this special release, we bumped the ABV all the way up to 11% and massively dry hopped the beer with Galaxy and Citra. Pouring a gorgeous maize yellow with a heavy, milky haze, Dialed Up offers an intense nose layering ample aromas of orange smoothies, overripe melons and sweet table grapes with dank, blooming pine. A bold wave of pulpy citrus leads on the palate with flavors of fresh squeezed pomelo, grapefruit, and blood orange. Next, the mid-fermentation addition of Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer juices converge with vinous notes of lychee, apricot, passion fruit, orange blossom honey, sweet pineapple, and roses. With a soft and creamy mouthfeel and medium-to-full body, Dialed Up’s finish balances its sweeter tropical notes with a moderate and enjoyable floral bitterness.

MALT: Pilsner, C-15, Flaked Wheat

HOPS: Galaxy, Citra, CTZ

ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: Chardonnay Juice, Gewürztraminer Juice

L: Hazy apricot and peach hues with a frothy head and sticky lacing
S: Melon, tangerine, and a slight dankness
T: Candied oranges, grilled pineapple, splash of oaky and buttery Chardonnay, and a hint of grapefruit with brown sugar
F: Full bodied, creamy, and slightly dry finish - crisp and lingers on the tongue
O: Awesome triple here. Bold and complex profile that drinks effortlessly for the ABV. Nicely done.

On tap. I really enjoyed one of the Dialed In beers by them. So I was really expecting to like this. Lost a bit of its charm. Not sure if this didn’t grow up well (the original beer is proabably 2-3% less ABV) or if the quality of Trillium’s beers isn’t the same. Also I could just be wrong or losing interest in these flavors. This was not as good as expected regardless of the reason.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Canned on 12/07/18
Served in a tulip

Cloudy, glowing orangey-yellow appearance. The body was topped by a flimsy white film of tiny bubbles that quickly dissolved. No lacing or head retention whatsoever.

Really interesting aroma. A blast of musty white wine hit me on the pour. The Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer notes were in full effect. Slightly buttery. Citrus was also apparent. Juicy orange specifically. Some lemon too. Subtle boozy notes appeared as the beer warmed.

The flavor was similar to the nose. Big, sweet malt presence on the front end. Loads of juicy citrus. Orange and tangerine flesh perhaps. Touch of zesty rind-like bitterness as well. The white wines notes kicked in next. Musty and slightly buttery with a sweet white grape character. More tangerine on the back end. Some tangy clementine too. The beer finished with notes of pithy white grapefruit rind and a touch of boozy warmth. Nicely balanced for the style. Sweet citrus notes lingered after the swallow.

Fantastic fluffy mouthfeel. Full bodied for the style. Super creamy and slick on the palate. The liquid contained a fine, zippy, tongue blanketing effervescence. Amazingly soft and plush.

Dialed Up is a terrific triple IPA by the folks at Trillium. Unlike many takes on the style, which come aross as overly malty and sweet, this one was surprisingly balanced. Furthermore, the blend of white wine juices contributed some interesting complexity without overwhelming the base beer. While pricey, I would gladly grab another few cans of this.
