Collaboration with Perennial Artisan Ales
Our dessert-inspired collaboration with Perennial Artisan Ales has been resting in rum barrels, developing complexity and depth. After months of conditioning, we are proud to present Barrel-Aged Coconut Pecan Pie.
Pouring a deep, burnished brown with a chestnut colored head, the nose offers alluring notes of toffee, rich brown sugar, creamy vanilla, coconut, and oak. We added a generous amount of toasted pecan and almond to create an intense nuttiness that pairs wonderfully with the rum barrel character. A thick, decadent mouthfeel and gentle warming character make for a satisfying and nuanced drinking experience.
MALT: Pale Malt, Flaked Oats, Simpson DRC, Crystal Malt, Black Malt, Roasted Barley
HOPS: Hop Extract
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: Coconut, Toasted Pecan, Toasted Almond, Vanilla

L - Black color, half a finger of almond-colored head
S - SO much Rum in this. Slight barrel character of char and tobacco. Milk chocolate, toasted coconut, nutty
T - Such a Rum and chocolate bomb. Has dark fruits, dark chocolate, coconut, vanilla. Coconut/vanilla rum. Cant emphasize how much barrel is here
F - Nice and thick. Doesnt stick to everything. Amazingly, no booze
O - Amazing BA stout. Not overly sweet, has insane barrel character. Great rum-barrel stout

Had this rating set under the wrong listing for this beer. Tried on 02/02/2020 at the Side Project Invitational; realized afterwards that they were pouring from bottles of the Barrel-Aged.

Drank from a 25.4 fl oz (750 ml) bottle purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured an oily and slick but somewhat thin, dark brown/black hue. A small cap of khaki colored bubbles topped the liquid, but it quickly dissolved. No lacing or head retention whatsoever.
The aroma was outstanding. This was a total coconut bomb. Toasted coconut specifically. Loads of maple too. Big milk chocolate presence. Some vanilla was also apparent. Nice brown sugar quality. Quite sweet, but appropriately so. Almond and rum notes were apparent as well. Amaretto came to mind.
The flavor was similar to the nose but not quite as rounded or as punchy. Rich and malty on the front end. Big roasted malt presence. Some caramel malts too. Toasted coconut appeared next. Good dose of chocolate and vanilla extract in the center. Almond notes appeared here as well. Again, amaretto came to mind. Boozy, rummy notes kicked in hard on the back end and the finish. Sweet, but not excessively so. Roasted malts, booze and brown sugar lingered after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was the only aspect of the beer that was somewhat disappointing. It definitely felt somewhat thin, especially for a 14.9% ABV beer. The liquid contained a fine, fairly subdued effervescence. After a few sips, the sugars in the beer left a sticky film on my lips.
Barrel-Aged Coconut Pecan Pie is a big, sweet, boozy, coconut-forward imperial stout that drinks like a liquefied Almond Joy candy bar. Aside from the fairly lackluster mouthfeel, this beer was pretty amazing.

Poured into a wine glass and shared with friends. Deep mahogany color with tan head, minimal lacing. Boozy notes of rum and candied pecans on the nose. Flavors totally taste like liquid pecan pie in a glass- strong toasted coconut flavors to start, then syrupy pecan pie filling and walnuts on the finish. Lingering coconut on the palate and good boozy rum burn to finish. Syrupy mouthfeel. This one is strong and a sipper for sure. Delicious!
