Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Released just once a year on our brewery's anniversary, this American wild ale is aged on whole Cabernet Sauvignon Grapes and Black Currants in Cabernet Sauvignon and Bourbon Oak Barrels.

One of our boldest, most dynamic beers, Cuvee de Tetreault expresses powerful vinous forward flavors of black currant, sour cherry, and cabernet fruit supplemented by hints of tobacco, vanilla, and a fleeting, light roast. An underlying tannic structure from the whole cabernet grapes adds complexity and balance to the fruitiness and acidity.

As the beer ages, the fruit character will gracefully evolve, opening up nuances provided by the grist, our native New England mixed culture and the select barrels. Cuvee de Tetreault is a celebratory beer, intended to be shared with friends and loved ones to commemorate life's milestones and achievements. Enjoy now or cellar over many years for further development.

MALT: Pilsner, White Wheat, Munich, Abbey, Dark Crystal, Carafa III, Belgian Candi Syrup

750ml bottle

Pours opaque dark burgundy purple red with a dense creamy strawberry milkshake-like pink pillowy foam head. Smells like fruity black currants, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon black grapes, red wine, bourbon, oak, vanilla, char, caramel, dark molasses, dark dried fruit, raisin, fig, plum, cherries, mild chocolate, light roast, hint of tobacco-like spice, slight red wine vinegar, red fruits, dark fruits, toasty bready caramelized malts, berry jam, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes really complex and acidic with big fruity black currants, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, sour red wine, smooth bourbon, oak, vanilla, char, caramel, dark molasses, dark dried fruit, raisin, fig, plum, cherries, mild chocolate, light roast, a hint of tobacco-like spice, slight red wine vinegar, red fruits, dark fruits, toasted bready dark caramelized malts, berry jam, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium-full bodied, creamy smooth with moderate carbonation. This is pretty similar to a red wine with a little more acidity. Juicy black grapes and currants, a little bourbon, oak and red wine complexity, with substantial body and malt backing. Overall a really great, unique, interesting and complex bourbon and red wine barrel aged wild ale with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and black currants.

Poured from a 750mL bottle into a Trillium Tulip glass. 2018 batch.

Pours a deep maroon body with a purple two finger head that reduces fairly quickly. Magnificent color.

Aromas are tannic with lots of Barrel and red wine, tart fruit skins and a bit boozy.

On the tongue it’s tart, sweet, and tannic with sweet candi sugar and Drying fruit skins, oak barrel, berries, red wine and finishing lightly bitter and astringent. A little boozy with a medium body and low carbonation.

Good beer but not Trilliums greatest as some claim. Unique, definitely worth a try.

Stunning out of the bottle - purple, maroon hue with a cap of white head that lingers for a surprisingly long time. I’m usually not one to marvel at the way a beer looks but, dang, if this doesn’t deserve a second glance.

Aroma is a complex mofo - jammy blackberries and raspberries, purple grapes, red wine, oak and green apple skins.

Taste is berry preserves, fresh jam, plump grapes, red wine, roasted malt (its there!), aged oak, smokiness and spice.

I’m sure the process to create this beauty was a delicate one but, by now, this beer feels like a fucking submarine. It’s huge, weighs a ton, is super complex and packs awe-inspiring weaponry.

Jammy, smoky, tannic and tart. ABV is nowhere to be found. Awesome beer.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a stemless wine glass.

Smells and tastes like the best glass of Cab you've had in a few years. Kept a slight head the entire time, which surprised me. Looks like a glass of wine. The slight acidity and carbonation keep you in check and make sure you remember you're drinking a wild instead of a glass of wine. The Black Currants aren't the primary flavor here but do provide that perfect amount of acidity to counter the sweet cab grapes. The extra month in the bottle helped as when I had a pour from the brewery, it was harsher.

Not bad. At 26 bucks a bottle I was hoping for more. Looks absolutely incredible. Smells amazing too, but that's about where it ends for me. This isn't a bad beer by ANY means, but considering the name, the price point, the rarity, I went in expecting this to be the de facto trillium wild ale.

There is a nice mild tartness to it that is mostly covered up by an incredibly powerful red grape juice taste. Think welches. Starts dry but once the juiciness takes over it starts to get a bit sticky.

I can see how people are going nuts over this, but I definitely prefer this style of beer to be more subtle and dry. This is very aggressive. The 11% is absolutely no where to be found which is quite surprising.

Went in expecting some line treading between beer and wine, ended up with welches grape juice. Still good though.

I have two bottles and will forget I have the other one for 2-3 years. Will probably be a completely different beer by then

Had on tap. Pours hazy purplish red in color with minimal head. Taste is currant, cranberry, blueberry and sour mix. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, and tart. Not always a fan of Trilliums sours, but this is amazing. Their best sour.

The beer pours a deep purple with a moderate pink head. The beer has medium low carbonation. It smells of grapes, blackberry, oak, funk, and Cabernet. It tastes of dark grapes, blackberry, funk, and Cabernet. It has a medium body. This is my favorite wild ale from trillium.
