Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
With the New England summer fast approaching we release Tiny Chicken, another edition in our Small Bird Series of lower ABV, hazy pale ales. Deceivingly diminutive in name, Tiny Chicken packs a hoppy punch with a powerful combination of Galaxy and Amarillo. Engaging aromatics pop with notes of bright citrus and peach, while flavors of tropical fruit, melon, and orange sweep over the palate in refreshing waves. Finishing crisp and dry with slight earthy/spicy grain character from the use of locally malted wheat and Danko rye.

MALT: American 2-row Barley, Valley Rye, Valley Wheat, Flaked Oats, C-15, Dextrine

HOPS: Galaxy, Amarillo, Columbus

Reviewed at Publick House, served in a Trillium pint glass.

A- Pours a hazy yellowish, orange golden color with a little over a fingers worth of frothy head that has nice retention and leaves nice layered lacing while receding to a thin layer.

S- Oranges, a hint of vinous hops, orange peel, balanced light slightly grainy malts hiding in the background. Decently aromatic for a 5% APA and very pleasant smelling with the fruity oranges coming out nicely.

T- Oranges come out nicely again in the taste balanced with a zesty orange peel bitterness that follows through with the finish balancing with some light lemon juice. Very tasty and flavors grow on me the more I drink it.

M- Fairly light, finishes slightly on the dry side, pretty sessionable, nice amount of carbonation.

O- These guys are making some fantastic hoppy brews that could easily be paired against some of the best. Fort Point was slightly better in my opinion, but this beer is nice in its own unique way. I could easily drink a few pints of this and I can't wait to try some more stuff from Trillium.

Poured from a 750ml bomber into tulip glasses:

Appearance: pours a lovely looking vibrant orange color, with an incredibly sticky and lingering white head. Body is totally turbid. No sediment present. Looks like a creamsicle between the bright orange body and the pure white head.

Aroma: not as pungent as in your face as the Heavy Mettle, Upper Case, and Galaxy FP I drank this weekend, but the hop aroma still beats out 95% of the beers out there. I got a lot of citrus, as usual with this hop profile, along with some dry, spice base from the rye malt.

Taste: not as flavorful and "raw" tasting as the double IPAs and the more heavily hopped Trillium beers, but still packs lots of hop flavor, along with the spice and dryness from the rye mentioned above. Flavor profile includes citrus, a touch of melon, and that dry, crackery spice.

Feel: much less sticky and full-bodied. At 5.2%, this is much more of session able brew than Trillium's other beers.

Overall: a unique beer in Trillium's hoppy arsenal in its dryness and its low ABV. Still, very flavorful and aromatic. Worth the search.

Yes, a perfect score across the board. Yes, it's that good. No doubt about it. I'm lucky to have experienced it.

Pours thick and cloudy with a perfect head. It tastes great from the first sip to the last sip. Not quite a "northeast IPA", but close to it and thus the American Pale Ale moniker does fit.

Do yourself a favor, get some of this.

Pours hazy, orange-yellow in color with minimal head. Taste is big peach, white grapes, and tangerine. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, with a nice combination of sweet and bitter. Nice and juicy. This one is right up there with the best of the small birds series. Super flavorful, complex and tropical. I could drink this all day.

A - Pours a soft orange with a small white head.
S - Aroma is orange grapefruit.
T - Flavor is citrus.
M - Average mouth feel and carbonation.
O - I'm generally not a fan of Pale Ale's as I prefer IPA's and DIPA's. But this is really well done. It's like a "little Trillium" beer, only 5.6 ABV but very good.

Pours a very cloudy orange gold color with a fluffy bubbled 2 finger head.

Aroma is of lemon zest and white grapes with a whiff of some sweeter fruit.

Taste follows the scent with loads of lemon zest and grape notes on top of a thin veneer of peach and mango. I can't stress enough how much of a dry grape flavor is behind this. It's like mixing white wine with beer - too much in my opinion.

Feel is very dry and crisp with a moderate amount of seltzer behind it. Bitterness is pretty low and malt is thin but present in the background. There is a surprising "burn" to this beer despite being a pale. Not sure where it is from.

I would recommend trying this beer but with the caution that the strong grape flavor may not sit well with your sensibilities of what a pale should be like. It is well crafted - looks and feels great, has a wonderfully pungent, punchy aroma and taste. The rating should be on craft instead of my likes so I'll rate it higher than warranted for what I typically go for.
