Poured into my spiegel stout glass from a 22 oz bottle.

A - pitch black body with a big beginning head that dissipates to almost nothing.

N - dark roasted malts. Quite boozy. Chocolate and sweet.

T - also boozy and roasty and chocolatey.

M - thick and beautiful and tasty.

O - very rich and good. Would do again. Cheers.

Served from tap in to an imperial pint. Poured pitch black with a half finger tan head that remained throughout. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, earth, and grain. The flavor was of sweet malt, dark fruit, roasted malt, dark chocolate, cream, and subtle coffee. It had a heavy feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. Sadly, the aroma left a little to be desired. It was just a little weak compared to what the flavor was giving off. The flavor however was really well balanced and quite enjoyable. It was definitely not crushable by any means, but I could easy finish my glass without regret. Definitely a solid brew.

Poured from a 32 oz growler. New beer from a new South Carolina brewery. Only have had the blonde before, which was good...this is way better!

A: Motor oil black with very little to no head which was a dark khaki color. The pour reminded me a lot of Ten Fidy

S: Lots of milk/dark chocolate. Some coffee and roasted notes, but a lot more of the chocolate. No alcohol in the smell

T: Starts off with a milk chocolate sweetness that is almost immediately cut by a hoppy/slight coffee bitterness. Lots of roastiness throughout. The 98 IBUs really help give this beer a balanced taste. Maybe a tinge of alcohol on the back, but at 10.5 % it is quite the easy drinker.

M: As I hoped, a very thick and oily SOB that coats the mouth. Mouthfeel is up there with the best of them.

O: I'm very impressed with this beer, best Imperial Stout the state of SC has to offer (not including Mexican Cake with all the spices added). As another reviewer stated, it is in line with FIS and Yeti, but being a SC brewer [even if it is from Columbia : ) ] I will be much more inclined to pick this one up as a go to over those. Just a great beer and I'm excited to see where they will go!

32oz growler from the brewery, poured into a Conquest snifter.

A: Pours a thick, black body admitting no light. Forms about an inch of deep cocoa head that quietly subsides to a partial cap and ring around the edge of the glass. As I drink, the beer leaves sheet lacing on the glass like I seldom get from an Imperial Stout. This is a real beauty.

S: Plenty of roasted and chocolate malt on the nose--a deep and inviting bitterness, with hints of coffee and alcohol.

T: Lots of roastiness, followed by dark, bitter chocolate, more dark bitter chocolate, then more roastiness. The flavor is every bit as dark and deep as the appearance of the beer--this is a REALLY nice example of the style. There may be a bit of marshmallow sweetness that peeks through momentarily before fading back into the roast.

M: It's a mouthfull! Thick, coating, and a bit creamy (they do add rolled oats). The beer lingers in the best possible way, and I find myself smacking my lips after each sip.

O: Brutus is a marvelous beer; I can see myself going for this regularly in place of something like Yeti, FIS--Brutus has come to play with the big boys. I don't think many kegs are making it out of the brewery at this point (January 2014), so be sure to fill a few growlers if you visit the tasting room.

Big thanks to my loving beautiful and charming wife for stopping by the brewery on a recent trip to columbia!

Inky opaque black which stains glass with a hint of lace and a mocha head that receeded quickly leaving a ring of foam.

A huge coffee blast to the nose leads to an awesome deep dark chocolaty aroma that a firm roast malt aroma soon dominates.

Big firm coffee with a big firm hop bittering for balance, dark chocolaty roasty goodness from malt. WOW, HUGE flavors in this wonderful brew.

Well I feel this is a full bodied brew that lovingly coats all that it crosses!

This is a road trip type of brew!
