Even after a remodel after the current owner purchased the property, it still remains a bit of its roadhouse/dive bar feel. A large U shaped bar off of the kitchen with adjoining rooms for seating. One room with booths and high tops adjoining the bar, one just for dining and another containing a couple pool tables and a stage for musical acts. An off-sale liquor just off to the right when coming in through the entrance. They seem to keep it on the cool side during winter and I felt no need to take off my light jacket. Brewerania decorates the walls. A couple of TVs in the bar.

What is available on tap is unbelievable especially for where this bar is located. Over 20 taps of craft beer, no macro. Mostly local MN stuff. Had Abrasive and Blakkr on-tap at the same time. Looking at the past tap handles that are on display, some highly sought after beers have found a home here. This is Mich Golden Light territory and for them to maintain the "craft" only tap selection, takes real dedication when obviously it would be more financially beneficial to offer macro. Over half of the people during my visit were drinking bottles of macro however. I would say they have the best tap selection within a 25 mile radius. Have to go to a better beer bar in the metro to find a better one. They really need to put up a blackboard with a list of what beers are on. Instead it turns into 20 questions with the server.

Service was good and the owner was a knowledgeable advocate for better beer by kindly offering suggestions to those unfamiliar to craft beer.

The food was the big letdown. Under seasoned and over cooked. Obvious the ingredients were of high quality, but just not executed very well. I am sure they use a flat top so put a crust on the meat and leave it pink in the middle. What I got was just a flavorless, cooked through piece of ground beef. Turn the heat up. I like my fries to be crispy but otherwise they were good. Other people sitting around the bar were raving about what they ordered. The Rueben balls must be something I need to get next time. I must of got the dud out of the kitchen. A reasonable menu with some German dishes, German influenced American classics, and customary bar food. Definitely will give food another try but will steer away from the ground beef selections. They say everything is handmade. I wonder if they make their own sauerkraut?

A sandwich & fries, and a pint each of Abrasive and Blakkr for $20, not too bad. Strolled through the off-sale on my way out and they seemed to offer basic party supplies and kegs of Enki at a reasonable rate for the area. Not a shopping stop unless this is the end of the line.

08/16/14 update:
They finally put up a blackboard with what is available on draft. Unfortunately one of those draft lines is now taken up by macro. Still torn on the food. Eaten here a few times now but never have been impressed, but each time has been an improvement. If you bring your receipt to the off-sale liquor, they will give a discount.

04/25/15 update:
Gone is the blackboard tap list. It is replaced by printed out sheets that I assume gets updated once a week. I gave up on the food. My palate does not agree with the chef's. Now I just drop in for a couple of pours. They also have gotten casks on Friday nights with leftovers available on Saturdays. I am always impressed with the beers available at this place. Some beers only a few other bars gets. Also some stuff previously only available at the brewery.

Mini update: They have a beer engine now and usually have a cask ale available.
