A: way too light to be an ipa. Looks like a lager.

S: almost nothing. Less hop presence than the pale ale. Terrible.

T: grassy or wheaty and way too bitter. Not hop bitter--bitter face tape bitter. Gross.

M: exceedingly dry with minimal carbonation.

D: I would not have another.

Good flavor, but low on hoppy aroma. A bit thin, but nice bitterness and a moderately lasting head. It sure went well with Pizza. I would like to try this unfiltered to give it a better feel.

This beer is really similar to that one made in San Clemente by Left Coast. Color of somewhere between a burnt orange and light amber, 1/3" white head. Aroma was one of the more lacking areas, lacks dry hopping, or lacks aroma hops or both.

Taste is more of a PacNW crystal malt caramel heavier kind of body, leaned malty, not quite English IPA because there are definite west coast bittering hops at use here probably (Simcoe/Cascade/Chinook/Centennial). Goes big on the caramel malt and hop bitterness, slight grapefruit note, not a ton of flavor to the hop component of this beer, just as much emphasis on those sticky bitter malt body.

Medium carbonation and yes, this beer actually does pair better with pizza than it does on its own.

March 31st, 2015 - Though the Torrey Pines IPA is maybe a little thinner than it should be, it's a solid IPA, and a timely and convenient complement to all the beer in front of me. With a rustier smell, and a sort of rusty-orange appearance, the nose offers a nice bitterness, some passion fruit and a blush of pomegranate. The flavor has a good hoppiness to it, giving a more sugary edge than Oggi's Pale Ale. It is, perhaps, a little generic, but at the same time I don't want my "pizza beer" to be doing anything fancy during my meal.

Maybe it was the batch but it is simply a rather poorly done IPA. How it won medals baffles me.
