L: Pours brilliant copper amber under a persistent and clingy 2” off-white to cream colored foam cap.

S: Rye spice, light floral, light fruit.

T: Starts slightly sweet with light fruit. Hop bitterness emerges in the middle. Fruit has a little citrus supported by faint cherry and light caramel. Bitterness is grapefruit rind. Drying from a light rye astringency on the finish. Malt and hop bitterness are both medium. Rye spice and fruit flavors are medium to medium low with more fruit presence as it warms.

F: Medium body and carbonation.

O: An easy to drink IPA that could benefit from a little more rye presence.

12oz can poured into a pint glass, no canning date

A- pours a murky deep Amber color with a one finger creamy white head that has great retention and leaves some lacing behind

S- plenty of spicy rye aroma up front mixes with earthy & herbal hops, along with notes of pine, tropical hops & ready malt

T- spicy and peppery rye up front dominates the palate, sweet Brady malt with hints of caramel, earthy and citrus hop undertones pop up as it near the finish and lingers with more rye spice

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues through to the finish, high drinkability

O- drinks more like a rye pale ale as the hops aren't as pronounced, but plenty of spice from the rye

No canning date.

Appearance: Opaque orange/rusty caramel color with a thin cap of off-white suds. One of the dirtier beers I've seen in a while.

Aroma: Caramel, overripe mandarin orange, and some earthy spice.

Taste: Definitely get the rye up front and it carries on nicely throughout, love that spicy flavor. Some clean moderate bitterness and a bit of a hop bite on the finish but no identifiable hop flavor. For 6.6% ABV it is a tad watery but that may just be a lack of support for the combination of hops and rye. Tasted better than the aroma indicated and I expect this is an old can because I don't get any of the citrusy hop character that is mentioned in the description.

Mouthfeel: About medium in body and never heavy. Slightly too much carbonation despite a somewhat aggressive pour. Pretty good drinkability for how much of a tongue thrasher it can be.

Final Thoughts: Although the appearance and aroma had me worried for a moment, the taste pulled through in the end. I actually avoided 612 Brew for a while because the name sounded like an offshoot of a BMC brand. Now that cans have begun popping up in the local beer stores I will be checking out more of their offerings and likely heading to their tap room soon. Now if they would just add a canning date... Would I drink it again? Sure, maybe in a mug next time to avoid the misleading appearance.

Again no can dating so I have no idea how old it is.
Does have some hop fruitiness but the spiciness of the rye it bigger and the malt base seems even larger than that. Overall kinda' funny mix of aroma with only okay blending.
Hazy amber of orange to brown. Nice dense tan head with good stamina and sticky lacing.
In the flavor the rye again stands out. The hops are earthy and not the fruitiness advertised on this. Prominent bitterness that dominates the finish, which seems to hold a bit of a creaminess on the finish. The feel is kinda nice although maybe a little more carbonation than I like, but pretty rich and smooth.
Rye is too strong and not blending on this one. I wouldn't seek this one out.

Unrated Rye IPA pours a cloudy dark copper color with a big, long lasting and lacing head. Earthy aroma. Flavor is very earthy, with a strong and noticeable earthy hop flavor. Decent body and feel. Overall, stronger, and very earthy.

this is better than its ratings, especially when fresh, not sure why there is so little love for the beers these guys make, i have liked most of them well enough to be honest. this is a cool beer, heavy on the rye, which i think isnt common enough in the beers that claim it in their names generally speaking. plenty of the pale rye malt dusty peppery spice, which goes well with a heaping dose of fresh tasting spicy earthy hops, some citrus too, but a ton of bitterness in the end, which is where i can see this one losing some folks. its anything but subtle in the finish, gnarly bitterness lingers longer than anything else and seems to drive a train through some of the subtleties that were present earlier on. i very much enjoyed the flavor of this being so driven by the rye, its a nice use of it, and i like the progression to the hoppier back end, but its a bit much on the IBUs. good carbonation and a nice medium body, its better beer i think than its been given credit for being here on BA.
