Pleasantly surprised. 7% abv. I'll be getting a growler of this to take home.

Poured into a Lucky Town pint glass

A: Dark brown/black with a beige one finger head that camps out nicely. Great lacing.

S: Coffee, chocolate, malts. Barbecue.

T: Strong, slightly smokey taste that follows nose. Sweet, robust. Great example of the style.

M: Medium to heavy. Good carbonation.

O: A solid oatmeal stout. Great sipping beer. Hearty. The imperial version (Double Barrel Flare Gun) is even better.

First had poured from growler into clear plastic (poolside) water cup, and then into faceted mug. The Flare Incident is a very quaffable sweet stout.

Purchased in a growler; poured in a frosted glass mug. Nice brown color, one and a half inch of tan foam. A good deal of lacing. It's an Oatmeal Stout but its not very thick and maybe a little too hoppy for a stout. There is a definite syrup flavored sweetness with a definite dark chocolate taste. Overall decent beer that I would buy again.

A muted brown color with slightly orange highlights.

Aroma of roasted coffee. Some burnt toffee as well but all that covers up the hop scent.

Taste of roasted malt/coffee with a clean finish. Brewer says this is brewed with Vermont Maple syrup and brown sugar but I can't tell if that means before fermentation or is added afterwards. I don't get much in the way of sweetness that those flavorings would add because this brew tastes and finishes rather dry. Columbus and Fuggle hops are used for an IBU of 58 but they're so over layered by the coffeeish malt if I'd been told the IBU was half that I wouldn't have argued.

Almost full texture with a good dose of carbonation. A fuller, rounded feel that borders on creamy.

Brewer lists pale and dark roasted malts (chocolate, caramel, 60L and Black) as well as flaked oats and flaked barley. I think flaked grains do add to the body here and that's a plus. I also expect the hops would shine more if the roasted flavor were less heavy. Whether more accent on hops would be a better thing I can't say. I can say the resident Guinness fan gives this brew an enthusiastic thumps up but he drinks Guinness so there's that.
