Pours a dark brown with ruby edges and over a finger of head. The nose has a vague touch of roast and a bit of astringency as well. The body is solid and the mouthfeel is creamy. There is some roast in the flavor but not enough to make me a happy camper.

Poured into a snifter.
3.5 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy tan head. Retention is a hair below average and a thin line of lacing is left.
4.0 S: The nose on matches well with the description. Huge oatmeal component immediately sticks out. Creamy, mild roast coffee has enough power to come off as cappuccino. Layers of cocoa powder and chocolate with hints of molasses and anise. Lots of caramel as well.
4.5 T: Even creamier and more powerful than the nose. Really a well made beer. Mocha cappuccino flavor coming hard - chocolate, caramel, vanilla, roasted coffee. The oats, though, are what shines the brightest. So intense and flavorful. Mildly sweet overall, but no charred or astringent flavors.
4.75 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Supremely creamy and velvety. Simply wonderful.
4.25 D: Definitely a beer worthy of being an anniversary special.

A big thanks to the captain of the canship, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is sweet, chocolate, oats. Taste is chocolate, coffee, some hops, light oats, none of the sweetness detected in the aroma. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a quality beer worth trying.

Sampled and drank at a beer sampling at Elwood's Pub north of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Poured in a plastic cup and still the taste, smell and look came thru with this big beer.
I'm bummed that I missed the bourbon barrel aged one, that had to be good.
I had a second one and even out of the can and a glass. The flavors were full of cocoa, chocolate malts, coffee etc, flavors sweet, bitter notes flowing across my tongue with every sip from the glass. Delicious!
