Sampling a cellar temp can poured into a snifter. The can has been in my cellar for about 4 months from purchase. As I pop the top, foam starts rapidly fizzing out of the opening and gushes a bit onto my table and the floor. This hurts my appearance score.
Finally getting the beer poured I get a rocky, large fluffy bone white head of 5 cm that overtops my glass. THe beer is a fairly clear orange color with not a lot of sediment or other haze or cloudiness. My kitchen does smell like fresh hops with lots of grassy notes and some pine sap filling the room after the spillage. Once the beer settles, leaving windowpane lattice on my glass and one large fluffy island in the center, I can dive into the beer.
The aroma is more mild than I thought after the gusher but I get pine sap and grass notes mixing with a little grapefruit rind mixed in for good measure.
The first sip reveals a light body with fine and gently rolling carbonation. Flavor is just a little grainy malt and then pine sap and finishes with some pithy grapefruit rind bitterness. The finish also dries out my palate and the bitterness lingers.
The beer drinks pretty easy and doesnt appear flawed or infected or have any problems that would have caused the gusher at the onset of this sampling. Its a decent session IPA, hope your can doesnt gush like mine did.

On tap into nonic pint

A: very light body big white bubbly head. The body is a very light yellow color with great clarity.

S: pineapple, grapefruit, mango, peach, a little candied light crackery malts

T: the taste lightly follows the nose. You have light bits of fruit, a lot more of that cracker malts taste. Nice crisp fruity pineapple.

M: very light clean tasting and crisp makes the beer feel lighter.

O: this is a pretty good session ale, much better than I had expected going in to it. It's clean, light, has an amazing nose and a decent hop bite.

Rivertowne Brewing "Jah Mon Session IPA"
12 fl. oz. can, production coded but without freshness dating
$2 @ Weis Market, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice looking glass of beer! It's a hazy golden with plenty of fine bubbles rising up, adding to and buoying a finger-thick bright white head. The head retention is just amazing, and there's some thin but nice lacing where the head has already dropped. The aroma is limited to light citrus (mainly orange), pine, and lightly toasty grainy malt, and now I'm wondering whether or not this is an old beer. Of course without freshness dating I have no way of knowing. Looking at the code on the bottom of the can the best guess I have is a possible Julian date of 177 which would be June 26th, not that old. Moving forward, the hops in the flavor aren't that bright either but it doesn't seem old. At the very least I'm not finding oxidation. It's as the aroma suggests with a grainy malt base, and pine and citrus (which might be a little fuller, perhaps grapefruit or lemon, but basically remains orange or tangerine). Thankfully the bitterness isn't overdone and it's a pretty decent beer as it is, basically an American pale ale. Perhaps a fresher version would have revealed the "dank" hops that the Jamaican-styled label seems to be suggesting but I'm not finding it here.

Pours hazy, straw color. Foamy, tall, white head fades slowly to a rocky head with good lacing.

Smells doughy malts, pine and citrus.

Tastes light Tropical and citrus peel and bready malt. Finish is dry with a citrus peel linger with light fruit hints. Medium body and creamy medium carbonation.

Pours a light golden color with a large foamy head. Lace down the glass and excellent clarity, looks like a solid pale ale. The aroma is piney, with hints of lemon grass and orange. The taste has lemon notes, herbal elements, mint and pine. Refreshing and easy to drink, this light bodied pale sacrifices mouthfeel and body for drinkability. Not a heavy hitter by any means but a solid choice for a session IPA in a can. Pretty good beer.
