-spiegelau ipa glass. BB 10.04.18. Consumed 08.01.18.

A: Bright tangerine peel coloring has a good haze factor and light show of carbonation. Weathered white head is thin, flimsy, and quick to scatter. Loosely spotted dabs of lacing speckle the glass.

S: Sweet and citrusy nose, grapefruit juice, that is tart and fresh. Very defined, with some pine resins just oozing from the glass. Seems like a lot of late addition aromatic hops here, almost no dry hopping, with a touch of melon grind perhaps from the yeast.

T: Resinous sticky pine and citrus hops give an abundant and dry nature on the tongue. Grapefruit grind is lightly dry and bitter have a good show here, a class V? maybe not that much but is a sturdy III, with flashes of IV. Dry and parching late in the drink gives this some more respect, flowery and parching pine and citrus hops hit the tongue.

M: Sticky and resinous mouthful, Lots of pine and citrus oils, dry and bitter, with a thick and slick consistency. Dry and bitter hold.

O: A nice level of wet aromatics is followed by a wallop of dry hopping for flavor, full of pine and citrus, old school west coast style. Not a ton of complexity, just enough to give you respect with a healthy helping. A great smack of hops.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is straw gold, just bit of chill haze, head is off white with fine bubbles, head presents 1.5 inches thick and then dissipates to a solid 1/8 inch top with great lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is resinous with pine heavy, then some minty herbal notes.

Taste is similar with a resiny pine notes, herbal and a soft sweetness to backstop the bitterness.

Mouthfeel is low to moderate carbonation, moderate strength lingering bitterness and soft malt component that spreads the flavor on the tongue.

Overall a good ipa in a classic bitter and strong hop presence in the flavor and mouthfeel.

I have been running through some Rivertowne Brewing beers today & I CANnot think of any reason to stop now. I had heard rumors that things were not all well & good in Export/Monroeville so I snapped up the latest CANs to come our way at The FGBS. I have not heard anything further so I assume that all is well again. Best wishes from The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Attention! Last Chance to Exit River Before Rapids"; "If you didn't catch the disclaimer in the name, you might want to steer clear. This Double IPA is overflowing with citrus, pine, and resiny hop flavors that could knock you around if you're not an expert."; "60 IBU".

Wahoo! Now that others have weighed in, it is my turn! I beCAN with a Crack! & Gussie Glug which produced two-plus fingers of soapy, foamy, rocky, tawny head with modest retention. The lacing that it left in its wake was going to require a jackhammer to remove. Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, prompting an impromptu visit from The Gelt Gang - Midas, Mammon & Croesus, all clamoring for a taste. Nose was redolent with pine resin! It was like air freshener had been sprayed in my kitchen! Actually, it was the best that it has smelled in here for a while. Hmm. Mouthfeel was big, full & thick, like a dollop had been scooped onto my tongue! The taste was fantastiche. There was a tad bit of grapefruit citrus in the mix, but mostly it was simply unabating pine resin, akin to licking the handle of George Brett's baseball bat. Phew! Class V, indeed. This gets high marks because not only was it true to style, but it tasted really good, too. Finish was cool, minty, dry and very satiating. It had better be, with its ABV since I don't know how many I CAN drink at a time.

I love Rivertowne. They make the best fruit beers which is unusual for me because I'm not normally one to rave about fruit beers but every one I've had from Rivertowne is pretty much the best I'd had. The beer brewed with Cranberries was one I'd order over and over. The only canned beer from Rivertowne I've had thus far is their Pineapple beer which is also great.

L: Dark yellow with very little carb. A fire like lace wall with a little head.
S: Not sweet Jujyfruit. Tropical fruit note.
F: I said "Boy" while blinking my eyes on this one. Cream feel, not too much bitter except at the end when it washes like fruit with a bit of burn.
T: Mellow. Not terribly bracing but there is a strong backbone of grapefruit hops wrapped in slight grain remainder and yes, the alcoholic kick was there so yeah, it's a double IPA. Slight candy sweetness.
O: It drinks great, without big burn. Very good overall.
