Pours an effervescent amber with 2 fingers of cream colored head. Nice head retention and lacing

S: Bready with a touch of pepper

T: Follows the nose, dryness as well up front. More peppery rye, along with dryness and just a little citrus once warm. Finishes dry and peppery, with some breadyness

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, stellar balance

Super drinkablity, nice take on this style

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown color with a white rocky foamy head. Took forever to dissipate. Mild stringy lace. The aroma had a sweet floral to herbal earthy malty flow to the hops which were slightly citrusy, woody and piney. The flavor yielded to the sweet side embracing all of the same tones of the aroma. Some caramel malts meld fine into the beer. Aftertaste was the blend of the malts to the floral/earthy portions. Finish was long and malty. The palate was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, decent enough beer as is, but I was hoping for more rye, or some rye.

On tap:
Pours like a classic DIPA, even though it isn't - orangish golden. Translucent towards hazy body decent head with streaks of lace.

Nose is actually a little surprise with a citrus orange aspect to it. This does melt into the background after my initial whiffs, allowing the spicy and bready rye notes to come out. There is a strange Froot Loop fruitiness in some whiffs as the two notes components combine (maybe ambient effects).

Sure, there's a little of that citrus up front in the taste, but the hammer of rye comes swift and powerful. Spice and bitter drying notes are brought along this powerful wave. Some of the floral citrus hop notes ride the wave and come out the other side as flotsam (or maybe jetsam).

Make no doubt, rye is a big, no huge, part of this beer. The feel is a bit raw and dry to me because of this. I like it, though, as the hops probably apply some balancing note that isn't obvious just sipping it. If you're not a big fan of rye in beer, stay away. If you like that bite and dryness, grab it!

A: Hazy reddish brown in color with minimal cream colored head.
S: Sweet smelling with a slight citrus and sour notes.
T: Strong citrus taste. Very present hoppy bitterness rounded out by sweetness. Slight grassiness when it warms on the palate
M: Nice creaminess that broken up by carbonation to make it more refreshing.
O: Overall it is a nice middle ground rye pale ale. Well balanced and not over powering in any direction. Would make a nice choice to sip in front of a campfire.

On tap at Brewer's Alley in Frederick, MD.

This one pours a medium amber color, with a one inch foamy head, and a good amount of lacing.

Smells like citrus, such as grapefruit, with some bready malt, and rye spice.

This has a pretty killer use of rye, it's got a peppery spicy bite, with some grapefruit rind, and some pine, with a bit of bready toasty malt.

This is medium bodied, with a crisp mouthfeel.

Really nice and drinkable stuff here.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a burnt orange color and a cloudy texture. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Good lacing.

S: A pretty good aroma of rye, hops, and some malt.

T: Tasted of rye (of course), with hints of citrus, a bit of hops, malt, and a little caramel in the finish. There was a light grassy quality, but it wasn't overly aggressive. Very balanced, with enough rye to work well. A decent enough flavor, but not overpowering.

F: A well carbonated beer with a sharp finish. Medium-bodied.

O: On the whole, this is a solidly made, likable beer. It doesn't quite make it into the realm of great beers, but it's still worth a try.

Love the hop and malt blend. Very different IPA since there is a ton of malt forward taste and huge mouth feel. Quite unlike other IPAs which are bitter dry hop forward.

Amber color, off-white head, lacing. Sweet and spicy nose, caramel malt. A touch of dried fruit. Flavor is likewise, tasty, spicy, rye presence. Caramel/toffee malt. Maybe a hint of hops in the spice. Creamy, full body. Frisky carbonation. Solid, drinkable beer, will definitely have again.

Pours a dark amber, crystal clear. Little to no head.

Very nice nose of bread and spice, sweetness comes forward too.

Flavor is rich, nice bitter from the hop with lots of malt and rye sweetness. Solid malt. Very nice rye.

A- 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass with a light orange body; tiny haziness. A multi finger cap shoots up quickly with a thick and puffy texture. Cap falls to a large blanket with good retention while lacing is a myriad of webs and drizzle.

S- Hops in the foreground but overall the aroma is not super pungent. Stone fruit and citrus tones lead up to pale cracked grains and a hint of spicy bread.

T- Same overall feel as the aroma but certain characteristics really open up especially the rye; it is now an obvious spiciness and bready note. The hops join a light malt sweetness summing up to somewhat juicy mango, melon, apricot, tangerine, floral and herbal notes.

MF- Rich consistency thanks to a very creamy and puffy texture brought on by the high end carbonation. Very smooth ending moderately bitter and sweet.

The aroma did not get me ready for the juicy and fruity hop flavor. Rye is bold but not dominating allowing the hops and pale grains to balance each other out. Just well brewed and thought out.

Really looking forward to trying this MD brew. Pours a really good orange-ish red color. This is what a beer should look like. Taste doesn't quite live up to the smell or look, but it's a pretty solid beer from a brewery I'm going to keep an eye on.

Pours a hazy orangey red with a nice cap of light tan head. The head has great retention and leaves sheets of small sticky head on one side of the glass, opposite of the side sipped. The aroma is subtle, but not lacking, with a nice caramel malt sweetness, floral hops, and a little bit of rye spice. The taste is much the same but a little more intense. The body is light but has a nice full feeling with a little bit of a peppery finish.

Poured a copper brown body with one finger head that left some lace. The aroma has citric hops with some sturdy dry, bready malts and I'm picking up this peppery spice which I assume is the rye. Beer is smooth and while it is hoppy the real bite in the finish comes from the rye. Maintains balance with some bready malts for a fuller body that is easy to drink.

S: Lovely hop aroma. Citrus peel and tropical fruit dominate.

T: Grapefruit peel and citrus. Not as much of the tropical fruit as in the aroma. Slight spice note in the finish.

M: Medium in body, with fairly active carbonation.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Deep thick three to tall four finger head, fluffy and creamy with a whipped up lovely top, looking thick and rich. Gorgeous head sits on a perfect amber copper red, with a little clarity and ultra fine carbonation. Great looking brew.

Excellent aromas and bouquet of the beer, even when poured. Creamy notes of caramel and biscuit like malt. Slightly hinting vanilla with a nice mellow citrus hop fruity character. Not getting a lot of spicy rye character which is fine with me, as that tends to detract for me. Smells delicious.

Good lord is this ever creamy. This is coming off like a spiced English Bitter with strawberry fruit tones. Rye malt definitely kicking on the finish with a good grainy and airy spicy character. Lots of cream sweetness upfront, sort of reminds me alot like Tetleys.

Overall very nice, but just a little bit too sweet on my end. But very well made beer.

I am now committed to reducing, if not eradicating, my backlog of bottles. This one came out of the cooler at The Friendly Greek Bottle Shop.

From the bottle: "Proudly Brewed in Frederick, Maryland"; "A ruckus of complex flavor is carried in on the amber glow of torchlight. As tension builds between hop bitterness and the malty tones delivered by locally grown and malted grist, a perfect balance is achieved. The robust texture of rye allies itself with the flavors from specialty malts and hops to rebel against preconceived notions of beer. Unseat the crown. Start a Riot. [undersigned] Tom Flores, Brewmaster".

I know that I constantly contradict myself, but I am much more of a fan of AIPAs than APAs (generally), but second only to hops is rye, IMHO. I really dig what rye does for beer and rye whiskey is my Achilles Heel. I considered biting off the cap just to expedite matters, but then I sobered up, however briefly. I began with a very heavy-handed pour, resulting in over three fingers of dense, tawny head following a pseudo-cascade. Color was a coppery-amber (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled of peppermint, black pepper and caramel. I was ready to swoon! The peppermint and some of the black pepper were directly attributable to the use of rye while the sweetness was from the malt. Mouthfeel was full and creamy. The taste was minty, peppery, slightly sweet, but not by much. The finish was breathtakingly dry with the cool mintiness simply lingering following the swallow. This was a perfect example of why I love rye in my beer!

Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a very nice head that provides good lacing action

Smell: Biscuity malt, with a tinge of caramel; fruity and spicy

Taste: Biscuity, up front, with a growing caramel presence; at the same time, fruity, in the middle, with earthy and spicy tones (the hops and the rye) developing; well-balanced finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: An easy drinker, with good flavor; but not particularly distinctive

I purchased this at Brass Rail, enjoyed chilled from a tulip out of the 12oz bottle.

The color is hazed apricot with 3 fingers plus of off white head with rocky topography, lace clings ok and bead is average sized with decent retention. The smell is very fruity almost yeasty with some strong citrus aromas from the hops with both lemon and grapefruit notes. The feel is good with moderately high carbonation and slightly higher than medium bitternsess with mild sweetness and mostly dry finish.

The taste is both fruity yeast with moderately bitter hop flavor almost grassy taste with light astringency from a citrus dominant hop profile. The taste of rye is pleasant but supports the hops mostly with a light sweetness in the taste. The alcohol is noticeable slightly in the taste but only as it increases in temperature with a mild tangerine taste of the hops combined with yeast. Overall this is an interesting beer it filled th glass with foam so I had to back off as I poured but intense with hops and a little warm for the strength. I consider this a decent rye beer as it is pretty quaffable and straddles the line of RYE pale and IPA.

On cask at Meridian Pint (March 2014), served in a 16oz pint glass.

The menu indicated that it was 6.4% ABV. It also indicated that locally grown and malted grist was used, along with Meridian, Nugget and Chinook hops added to cask.

The beer appeared an outstanding opaque darker orange hue with a light, but thick, white head that was fairly well retained and left some nice lacing on the glass. Perhaps on tap you might get a better, more retained head.

The beer gave off a nice, robust rye aroma, but not much else, except for a very slight earthy hop.

The taste of the beer is great…a nice rye flavor with hints of apricots and biscuit. The beer finished with a nice and dry aftertaste, slightly bitter aftertaste.

The beer had a moderate body to it. The beer was extremely smooth and extremely drinkable. I actually went back a few nights later just to have this beer again.

Overall, this is an outstanding beer.

Have had this beer a couple times on draft in DC.
Pours a bronze color with a minor head.
Odor is of fruit, hops and maybe a little malt.
Taste is a nice combination of rye, hop bitterness and some fruitiness. The hops are present a little more at the beginning. The rye adds a nice balance overall and helps with a nice finish.
Mouth feel is somewhat light. Overall and very good and well balanced. Worth checking out for sure.

Had on tap at a pub about 3 miles from where this stuff is brewed. Pours a hazy amber-orange with frothy head and lace. Good looking beer.

Big, juicy nose on this one, bursting with super fresh, clean hops, lemon and pink fruit - guava and watermelon.

Taste mirrors the nose - tons of fresh, grassy hops, abundant rye spice, and juicy fruit. Meyer lemon, guava, watermelon and grapefruit. Much more hops than I expected from what looks almost like an amber ale. Bright and clean, but the rye steadily reminds you it's there, bringing peppery, slightly abrasive notes that aid both the taste and mouthfeel.

Medium body that feels a little fuller thanks to the rye. Good mouthfeel.

Overall, this was a hell of a nice surprise. It's like they took a really solid Rye PA like, well.. Founder's Red Rye PA, and combined with 21st Amendment's watermelon beer. I can see myself picking up sixers of this stuff all year round.
