Snifter poured at the brewery for $5.

Nearly black in color, with a decent white head and some spotty lace.

The nose was a little more coffeeish than I expected, but not in a way that worked to the detriment of the beer.

While the coffee aroma noted above jumped out as the dominant flavor, it was balanced with a perfectly subordinate hop flavor that was just strong enough to balance it, along with a slightly sweet mollasses-like taste. The bitterness of the coffee flavor and the sweetness that balanced it were at just the right amplitude. There was a slight dryness at the swallow.

The body was at the lower end of medium, giving the lie to the suposition that a dark beer has to be heavy. The mouthfeel was just as one would expect for the style.

An extremely drinkable dubbel if one doesn't mind a coffeeish flavor. The coffee flavor isn't exactly strong, but there's enough of it that it would be noticeable if you don't like coffee. I happen to be very fond of coffee, so I found it to be very tasty, indeed. If you like dubbels and roasted malts, this beer could well be a good one to try!
