Paddy Jack's is a place that opened very recently as of this review. It's in its own lot out on Central almost into Sylvania in a building that formerly housed Big Buddha's Cast Iron Grill. The atmosphere is nothing special outside, but at least it's got its own place. Inside, it's big and spacious; that's a plus. I'm torn over how I feel about TV's, since some businesses need them to get people in and keep them drinking but they can be distracting. This place has something like 4 TV's on each side of the bar, inside and out, not to mention the ones randomly placed elsewhere. Somehow, though, they're situated so as not to clutter the place. The decor is made to force patrons to realize there's some connection to Ireland, though it seems they try to push the Ireland angle to hard in the decorating. It's like they just got a whole bunch of stuff from an "Ireland" box from the Korean lady on the sidewalk that she got from Target. Moving on...
The food is a real attraction here, and well worth it. The specialty is "gourmet" grilled cheese, and I have to say it lives up to the distinction. There are 10 or more artisan grilled cheese sandwich varieties and they're excellent. The kicker is that appetizers are likewise excellent. For what they do, the food is great.
Service is good; there's not too much to say about it, though while our server was pretty much on it the bartender let us stew for awhile. Paddy Jack's seems to be designed to attract men, and the uniforms are extremely short kilts and tight shirts. i don't think I could get a job here.
The beer list is good, and a better one for Toledo in particular. As of now, the taps are split craft and macro about 50/50. The bottle list includes 750s of Chimay, Ommegang, and the like. Stone and DFH are obvious on tap, but there seems to have been an effort to incorporate more local breweries. Along with Great Lakes (pretty obvious here too), they had Thirsty Dog and a few other Ohio breweries.
This is a good place to eat, probably the best for a grilled cheese (unless The Registry is making one), and you can also find a beer you'll want to drink while you're here.
